Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted October 21, 2002 "in The Ring 2 she haunts pro wrestling, and leaps out of tapes that've been procured via online tape trader. They stop her once and for all by putting a glass ceiling over the well after Jeff Hardy tries to sacrafice himself by doing a swanton onto her corpse." Then HHH has sex with her and becomes the MOST POWERFUL MAN IN WRESTLING. Or is that Kane?...
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted October 21, 2002 I wanted to see the Ring, but its another movie that the idiots at the Movie Theatre here won't play because its too scary. I seriously don't remember any horror movie playing at our theatre, which kept me from seeing Jason X and Resident Evil..
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted October 21, 2002 "I wanted to see the Ring, but its another movie that the idiots at the Movie Theatre here won't play because its too scary." Really? That's dumb. Are 100% of the patrons there 5-year olds and their moms?...

The Dames 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Hey AC, I might see ya there. I noticed in the "Ask Leena" thread that you wanted to know if you should see the American version first or not. I think you should see the American version first because from my understanding, the Japanese version is better. That way, you aren't disappointed if you watch it the other way around. Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Anyone catch Maltin and some other critic woman bash The Ring as "predictable and dumb" on this one late night TV show? Between "Hot" and "Not", they gave it a double "Not". With that said, I hope this does really good box office numbers.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted October 21, 2002 Or how about haunting P2P file-sharers? Now, that IS scary. How you think I saw the movie in the first damn place?

Dames Yes, it will be SmartBoard Admins Collide on the 30th. It will be cool...we could discuss the 24 season premiere. I saw the U.S. version today at a $4 theatre in Jamaica. Damn, it was fucking creepy. Brrr. Anyone notice how the ring flashed on the screen really quickly between some scenes? BTW, now I know how Ravenbomb feels. http://ringworld.somrux.com/index.htm <-- here's a cool site about both the Japanese and U.S. versions of The Ring
Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted October 22, 2002 I now have the haunted video on my hotline server. *spoiler of sorts* the dumbest thing I've heard about this movie is 'Duh, why not just NOT answer the phone?' like the phone call is what kills you. Yeah, I noticed the ring flashes too. It was fun trying to spot the rings they put all over the movie. The ring also appeard as part of the moon in the Dreamworks logo at the very beggining. Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted October 22, 2002 After I saw the film, as we were filing out of the theatre, I heard some 15 year old MTV Pepsi head say "Man, that was so cheesy. How did that girl make the videotape? They didn't have VCR's back then". Oh boy.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted October 22, 2002 I said that, too. Although I didn't call the movie cheesy, and I was joking when I said it to my better half. I then proceeded to make my DVD/P2P remarks, which are written in an aformentioned post. My better half then said "Shut up you jerk! I'm going to have nightmares tonight"... Guest areacode212 Report post Posted October 22, 2002 ** spoilers** So would it break the curse if Rachel & Aiden showed someone else the copy, then destroyed all copies of the tape? That person would still die, but Rachel & Aiden would be free of the curse (having fulfilled the "copy then show someone the tape" antidote), and the tapes would be destroyed. I wondered about that, and other possibilites I came up with in my head as well, myself. Seeing how the chick works for a newspaper, and could probably get airtime on TV news, it'd be cool to play that tape on the air and watch the panic ensue... Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted October 22, 2002 I'm sorry, but this film didn't scare me at all. I especially ignored all comments because I wanted to go into this film fresh. I didn't jump once, nor am I paranoid. And no, I'm not hoping for another "I know what you did last Summer" sequal. To this day, the only film that has ever freaked me out has been Poltergeist. Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted October 27, 2002 Maltin also thought Episode I was good, methinks... I just saw it today. Good, good, good, GOOOOOOD movie. Didn't scare me, only a single jump (seeing the first victim), but the suspense was THERE, man. **adds to the list of movies he's buying ASAP**
Guest MDH257 Report post Posted November 16, 2002 Can somebody help me out here? ..............................................Spoiler Warning................................................. 1.) Did they ever explain what happend to Anna Morgan (The Mom)? I'm sure they said it and I wasn't paying attention. Did she die in the mental institutuion? 2.) So Anna throws the girl into the well because the girl is evil. The Girl is haunting these people who watch the tape. How did the tape get made. 3.) So Naomi Watts has the kid make a copy to show to someone else and save him. I thought the girl was trying to get these people to help her. The one who did (Naomi Watts) lived, the one's who didn't (everyone else) died. 4.) The Girl comes out of the TV and kills the guy. Noami discovers his body leaves the room and sees the assistant going up the elevator. Was there a significance to the assistant being there? Basically, can some one who understands the movie explain it here? I'd really like to know. Thanks
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted November 16, 2002 "2.) So Anna throws the girl into the well because the girl is evil. The Girl is haunting these people who watch the tape. How did the tape get made." I remember watching the new version of House on Haunted Hill and the ghosts used a f'n fax machine (or was it e-mail?). I've given up trying to figure out movies like this. "3.) So Naomi Watts has the kid make a copy to show to someone else and save him. I thought the girl was trying to get these people to help her. The one who did (Naomi Watts) lived, the one's who didn't (everyone else) died." Personally, if I was the ghost chick, after 7 days I'd appear to the person who watched the tape and say "HEY! Get off your ass and make a copy of this tape and show it to someone else or I'll be back w/ my friends." If she REALLY wants her story to be known this would be the more productive route... Guest areacode212 Report post Posted November 16, 2002 *SPOILERS FOR THE RING and RINGU (and minor ones for Ringu 2 and The Sixth Sense)* I'm glad this thread got bumped. I saw the original with Dames a few weeks back, and we both agreed that the remake was better. There was just more *stuff* going on in the remake (the horses, the videotape was much longer), and it did a better job of playing up the false "Hollywood ending", where they teased the two getting back together (the hand-holding, the "I'll call you" stuff), and you didn't really know that something bad was going to happen until Aiden said "You weren't supposed to do that!". I also prefer the idea of Anna Morgan throwing Samara in the well (in the original, the father character is the one who "kills" Sadako). I did like the opening shot of Ringu with the water. That was creepy. Also, the original explained how the girl in the beginning knew about how the tape worked. This was the main plot hole of the remake that bugged me. Since the remake suggests that there was only the one tape...how would she know all the details (watching the tape, then getting the call, then dying after seven days)? It's possible that other people have tried to tape stuff in Cabin 12 before, but I still prefer the way Ringu explained that part (the cursed footage was mysteriously shown on pirate TV stations in some small remote town). Anyway, on to your questions: 1.) Did they ever explain what happend to Anna Morgan (The Mom)? I'm sure they said it and I wasn't paying attention. Did she die in the mental institutuion? I assume she's the one shown hurling herself off the cliff in the scary tape 2.) So Anna throws the girl into the well because the girl is evil. The Girl is haunting these people who watch the tape. How did the tape get made. Remember on the tape made at the mental institution, the doctor holds up those X-Ray slides that have pictures of horses mysteriously imprinted on them (the ones Noah finds in her file)? Basically, Samara has the power to imprint her thoughts onto tape. You may not have caught it at the beginning, but when the two girls are talking in the bedroom, the blonde says that the guys in the cabin were trying to tape a football game on the VCR that night. And when they played it, instead of the game, it turned out to be The Tape. Since the VCR was right above the well, Samara projected her thoughts onto the tape (this is why Noah couldn't tell what kind of machine created the recording). 3.) So Naomi Watts has the kid make a copy to show to someone else and save him. I thought the girl was trying to get these people to help her. The one who did (Naomi Watts) lived, the one's who didn't (everyone else) died. Samara is evil. "It won't stop" This was actually one of the things I liked about the movie. Usually in this kind of story, the ghost turns out to be really friendly in the end because all they wanted was to have a proper burial/have their killer brought to justice/whatever (like the little girl in The Sixth Sense). Samara wasn't like that. She just wanted people to experience her suffering. 4.) The Girl comes out of the TV and kills the guy. Noami discovers his body leaves the room and sees the assistant going up the elevator. Was there a significance to the assistant being there? Plot-wise, probably not. Maybe it was to show that Naomi Watts was too shocked to warn her. Or maybe that she felt that she had already saved the assistant's life (by taking away the tape before Noah could show it to her), so let HER find the body too and get a bit of a scare. I don't know. Anyone else have any ideas? Supposedly, in Ringu 2 (which I haven't seen), the assistant/girlfriend character plays an important role (she might be the main character of that movie). Guest El Satanico Report post Posted November 16, 2002 I finally got to see this movie last night. I found it to be a very good movie. I'm glad that it's still doing great business seeing as how it's most likely the best movie currently in theaters(not counting art houses). It wasn't a drop dead scary movie(none truly are after a certian age), but it did get a few jumps from even me "Mr. Jaded Horror Viewer". It's a very creepy film and has tons of suspense that never truly lets you go after the first 10 minutes or so. It did start a little slow, but it was just the calm to set up the storm. SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS it did a better job of playing up the false "Hollywood ending", where they teased the two getting back together (the hand-holding, the "I'll call you" stuff), and you didn't really know that something bad was going to happen until Aiden said "You weren't supposed to do that!". 3.) When it appeared that there was going to be a happy "the ghost gets a proper burial" ending i was disappointed. I was very happy when the "twist" appeared out of no where. I agree that it needed a better opening segment because it started alittle slow because of an lackluster opening. But after the first victim is shown the suspense starts picking up and never lets go until the end.
