Guest The Metal Maniac Report post Posted December 24, 2002 I must say, that if there was a "Best Live Album" catagorey (No reason why not) then Iron Maiden's Rock in Rio would take it, and I'd say that if I WASN'T such a Maiden Mark. It's just a mind-blowing CD.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted December 24, 2002 Edit: What was I thinking earlier? Too early, I guess.. Album of the year: Down II Band: Down, I guess. Worst artist: Eminem Album: The Eminem Show Song: That Ketchup shit. A buddy of mine told me, "Give this cd a chance" in regards to Eminem, so we drove around, and I actually listened to it with an open of a mind as I can get, and I hated every fuckin' second of it. The guy just thrives on people's negative reactions, which I might find admirable if I thought he was worth his weight in salt musically. His voice grates me to the point of my hair falling out, and his lyrics are nothing I can even remotely relate to.
Guest caboose Report post Posted December 24, 2002 Best Song: Muse - 'In Your World/Darkstar' Best Album: Hundred Reasons - 'Ideas Above Our Station' Best Artist: Can't really pick one.
Guest kingkamala Report post Posted December 24, 2002 Worst artist: Eminem Album: The Eminem Show Like Eminem or not. Techinically it is nowhere near the worst album of the year seeing how Aaron Carter, Christina Aguilara, Las Ketchup(Yes they released a full length album) and The Baha Men have all released albums this year.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted December 24, 2002 I haven't heard any of them though, so it wouldn't be fair to the suckiness of Eminem to vote for them.
Guest The Hamburglar Report post Posted December 24, 2002 Best song: No One Knows - Queens of the Stone Age. Best album: Original Pirate Material - The Streets. Best artist: Dave Grohl - Drummed for Queens, put out a solid Foos album and of course is a major part of the Nirvana Best Of. Thats diversity. And I was at Reading, where the Foos did an absolutely fucking awesome live performance.
Guest kingkamala Report post Posted December 24, 2002 I haven't heard any of them though, so it wouldn't be fair to the suckiness of Eminem to vote for them. True True, then again who has heard Baha Men's Greatest Movie Hits. I have heard most of the songs when they're played in movies but I haven't actually heard the album. Guest TheyCallMeMark Report post Posted December 24, 2002 I'll put my worst in. Worst Song - The new Korn one that sounds the same as the other new Korn one. Worst Album - "Reanimation" Linkin Park Worst Artist - Disturbed
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted December 25, 2002 Best Album: Frank BLack and the Catholics 'black letter days' (you fuckers in the US got I get Wet this year, but it doesn't count for me Best Song: 'When Good Dogs Do Bad Things' - The Dillinger Escape Plan and Mike Patton Best artist: Rocket From the Crypt. They released some old stuff ('hot charity') and a new album which i'm told is great and will aquire shortly. Hot charity is almost as fantastic as 'group sounds' and they are probably the most consistent band on the planet right now. Worst album: well if i see an artist, i'll hate them, and thus won't buy their album. If Lit released an album this year, pick them. Same for puddle of mudd. Fucking hell. Worst song: 'The scientist' - Coldplay. This is unfuckingbelievable. How any moron is getting 'genius' from this shit is beyond me. Some fucker pounds THE SAME KEYS FOR 5 MINUTES. THAT IS NOT A SONG. All these cocksuckers line up to bash andrew wk for not beign talented, because they are obviously Above him listening to brain rotting radio syrup like this. DEEP MAN, SO FUCKIN DEEP. If you see Chris 'piano wizard' Martin, kick him in his vagina. Honourable mentions to 'sk8er boi' and anything 'A' ever recorded, EVER. worst artist: see above, and closely following the shit factory that is Coldplay LTD, muse. I hate the shit out of these assholes, mainly for reasons listed above. I only hate them less because for all his shortcomings as an actual songwriter matt bellamy can actually play instruments, which eludes coldplay at this point. However, pissing around on a piano BEFORE the whining and power chords hit doesn't make you clever. Fuck this year. RFTC are incredible, the streets is cool, DEP and patton is awesome, frank black STILL rules, QOTSA is good but drags like a motherfucker, and that's about IT. Happy christmas. Guest razazteca Report post Posted December 26, 2002 Best Artist Missy Elliot - I have seen 2 of the videos from the album Un Constructed and I am very surprised at the mixing of classic samples from Hip-Hops anthems that just flows throughout the song. Missy Elliot is TRUE Hip-Hop which just blows away all of the water downed R&B Rap Crap away.......I am looking at Jay-Z and Murder Inc as worst Pop Rap-Crap. The South Has Something Too Say
Guest DrTom Report post Posted December 26, 2002 Song: "Prayer," Disturbed. Very well-consructed hard rock song. Album: Nirvana (Greatest Hits), Nirvana. Maybe it shouldn't count because it's a greatest hits disc, but the songs on it are better than 90% of the new stuff on the radio each week. Artist: Eminem. The Eminem Show was a great CD, and he followed it up with one of the best songs of the year in "Lose Yourself." I hate rap and hip-hop, but I actually like Eminem. As for the worsts, just plug in whatever bubblegum girl (or boy) pop act is the most hated at the moment. I loathe all their music. (Edit: Right you are, Kinetic, and I have NO idea how I made such a silly gaffe, especially considering I'd just listened to the song...)

Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted December 26, 2002 Worst anything is Andrew WK. Can't stand that guy, and I admittedly like a lot of shit music, as long as it has something to offer, but this has nothing. Best Album is the Nut Busters - Source Tags and Codes. It's truly awesome, and you can tell that these guys had probably listened to alot of My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth when they were younger. I am alone however in putting this over either Wilco or Interpol. This isn't anywhere near the best album, but just give Dave Matthews and the gang a chance MAN~! It's great jam music, even if it really isn't jam music. Solid album for sure. Ditto for artist, but I can't really pick one song from anybody. I generally just go by albums. If I had to pick, I'd pick Dream Theatre - Glass Prison, which is truly an epic song if there ever was one. A lot of songs on the three albums mentioned above are great as well obviously, but this single track stands out to me personally.
Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted December 26, 2002 Well...I am bored anyway... Best Song - A.S.A.P. - Utada Hikaru. Best Album - Miracle - Boa Best Artist - Boa, if only because I generally liked her albums better than the other artists I listened to this year. Worst Song - anything by Aaron Carter. I can generally deal with pop music. Heck, I even liked some of the songs artists like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera did, but whenever I had the(mis)fortune to listen to Aaron Carter I went into a violent rage, and turned the station immediately. I just cannot stand this guy AT ALL. Honourable mention - Summer Vacation - SM Town. One of those rare cases where they get a bunch of artists together and have them sing a song. It turned out to be a huge train wreck, mainly because of the artists I actually liked. Their voices did not mesh well with the other singers due to their high pitch, and it was not pretty. It did introduce me to the Korean band M.I.L.K. however, so it is not all bad. Worst Album - Aaron Carter again. I am not sure if he released an album, and I don't care. Worst Artist - Aaron Carter. I have yet to meet an artist I dislike more.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted January 12, 2003 I'll just throw the Top Ten of 2002 list I was gonna do on the main page here (with some pithy comments, written on the spot): 01. Predictable in its placement at the top of this list? Perhaps. Worthy? Yes. 02. Mainstream rap may be a depressing affair, but underground acts like El-P give hope. 03. Lazy people compare them to Joy Division. Knowledgable people know they rock. 04. The funkiest, most purely entertaining album of the year. 05. Low continues to surprise; they still write haunting, ethereal songs, but they also are learning to rock. 06. I cannot think of a more romantic album to have come out in the last couple of years than this one. Seriously. 07. A near-masterpiece that is burdened by a couple of duff tracks in the second half. Still, it's a terrific album, and very much worth the time of anyone with even the slightest interest in hip hop. 08. The cover says it all. Yes. 09. Hey man, snooze-inducing collaborations with Burt Bacharach mean nothing! He still rocks! 10. It took a handful of spins for this one to fully connect, but the time spent is a rewarding one. The last two tracks--about 25 minutes combined--are godly.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted January 12, 2003 Best song: Without Me - Eminem (and this is coming from someone who LOATHES rap) Biggest poopyheads: Rolling Stone. Has JLH almost naked in one issue and their reviewer slams her album without really saying WHY it isn't good and instead acting real condescending ("Hyuk, she's a movie star so she can't sing worth a lick.") Turn it Down A Notch Award: Christina Aguilera - Ok, we get it, you are a "free" soul. Now put some clothes on.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted January 12, 2003 HONORABLE METNIONS: Album: Black Label Society - 1919 Eternal Song: Shadows Fall - "Stepping Outside The Circle" Artist: Black Label Society This was the year for both bands. Shadows Fall's Art Of Balance is a masterpiece, and like any true masterpiece, it takes a few listens to truly appreciate. And Black Label Society has proved that Zakk Wylde is one of the best musicians in heavy music today, as 1919 Eternal has your technical songs, your easy-as-shit songs, your heavy songs, your slower songs, and Zakk shows that he has worked on his voice (which was BLS's ONLY weakness prior to this album). 1919 Eternal is also one big war-themed album dedicated to Zakk's father, a veteran that (I believe, so don't quote me) passed away recently. 1919 Eternal closes off with a beautiful acoustic rendition of "America The Beautiful," which made an already classic song into something that even the most hardcore metalheads can appreciate. I bleed Black Label, and I dwell in the Society.
