Edge...

How is a guy who is hated by a lot of people for seemingly no good reasons overrated??

Edge is one of the most underrated people in WWE and it's a such double talk when people say: PUSH NEW STARS!~ and when they do you all start shitting on them

That's why I asked who was he overrated by, but I don't think anyone answered that question.

I know one match that was great that had the leg worked so much it was hard to run or walk.

Savage vs. Flair, WrestleMania 8.

Oh yeah, that *is* true. But wouldn't you agree that is the exception, not the rule?

Did anyone see Unforgiven where Edge sold a head injury the whole match and ended up having an awesome match with Eddy?

And if Edge is a 'piece of trash' then how come each week he is seemingly having great matches- It's very hard to get carried to ***-**** matches

Exactly. That is why Big Show cannot be carried to a **** match: it takes two people to have a great match.

No, not really, not when it's actually done the right way, with the right guys.

Did you not read my post at all? I said it was realistic for him to pin his opponent. I DIDN'T say that he shouldn't of acted like he was in pain.

Yes I read the post, and no it isn't realistic for him to make a pin and to act the way he did at that time, not at all. I'm ready to drop that match from this discussion whenever you are, lol.

Hehe yeah, I think we have argued it out. Nice discussion we had though.

Amen, it's great when people can have a great discussion on here. It's the point isn't it, lol.

yeah...most the arguements I have about Edge turn for the worse. I don't usually get this far.

Well, to stat with, people have listed plenty of reasons they dislike him. I don't neccesarilly agree with those, or think they're worth arguing over, but hey, there they are.

And your "don't hate on the new talent" bit doesn't work as an arguement against pointing out someone's faults. Pushing new talent alone doesn't do the trick. Pushing CAPABLE talent is what you have to do. WCW never seemed to get this, with groups like the New Blood and the Natural Born Thrillers falling flat, while the writer's seem to be shrieking "but it's *new talent* God dammit! Why don't people like the new talent!?!?"

I've never been a fan of Edge's. I see some marketability in him, and obviously there are plenty of fans who see something in him as well. He's been capable at working some fun matches, but as a worker I've never gotten into him that much. He's not particularly bad, just not overly impresive at building a match and pretty limited on offense. I enjoy the tags he and the other guys take part in, but I wouldn't call any of them "great" or even "really good."

So it would seem that I fall somewhere in the middle of all this. I don't think he's the second coming, but I don't find him offensive like others do. Unless he's cutting promos. Those tend to urk me.

But Edge is a capable talent- he's not like one of the NBT who was just thrown out there and left for dead. I could understand not liking Batista but Edge has charisma, gets a crowd behind him and can usually guarantee a good match.

I don't think he's a saviour or anything but if pushed correctly he could be a big star. His face promos need work but his work with Christian was gold

When we say "push someone new" we usually have a select pool of people that we want them to choose from. When the WWF chooses to push someone new, they push anyone BUT them.

That's the key, his work WITH Christian. Working with him made up, for the most part, for his shortcomings. Do you think it's just by chance that when they were together, that Christian did most of the talking for the team?

I think that everybody's opinion for who they want pushed is different though. And alot of who the IWC generally wants to get pushed is. For example, Angle and Benoit. And I want Edge pushed, but all he is doing right now is being in a pointless feud with A-Train, so he's not getting pushed, is he?

Didn't that end?

Edge was a punchline man in that group.

Unfortunatly, no. Edge got attacked by A-Train during his tag match last week.

Like CanadianChick I have to wonder who is over-rating Edge. The IWC doesn't. And WWE doesn't any more either really, since it looks like his push is being postponed. If he were getting into a program with a top-carder or a belt holder, then I could say they were overrating him. But feuding with the guy they are just going to feed to UT on his return doesn't do much for your heat.

Do the marks really value Edge all that much? They're the only ones I could see overrating him.

Ahh. When Albert comes on my screen, my mind totally eliminates him and has another wrestler that I like do it in his place. I was wondering why Jwericho was doing shitty backbreakers.

Thank God for that btw. I can't believe it got me to chat, er, type ALBERT RULES, ALBERT RULES, ALBERT RULES! Really, I can't believe I said that.

I've really mellowed out on Edge. They won't let him touch the mic, so he can't bury anyone.

Last I checked, he wasn't doing much burrying on the microphone. I'm not saying I enjoyed any of his promos, but it's not as if he was going out of his way to make anyone look weak.

And again, it's not like Angle ever burries anyone on the mic, right? ;P

Christian got it REAL bad. Angle got it worse. They are sold as non threats in promos, segments, and Edge wins the feud. Stupid.

I was a big Edge fan when he debuted, and his tag team with Christian, it allowed for his faults to be covered up.

Maybe that's why you've been "blind" to Christian's faults.

How can you assess Christian's "talents" if he's barely been seen out of tag-team competition?

I'm sorry, but maybe there's a REASON why he's never ventured fully into singles work.

--His much-heralded mic-work is decent at best. His abilities hinge on his jokes, similar to Kurt Angle.

--Lack of psychology, lack of "flow" to his matches, lacking ability to draw in-ring response...

--Won't even mention his in-ring offense, complete with every type of restspot known to the WWE.

Yes, he was wont to burry people on the microphone, but how often did you see him doing that over the last few months?

He's still far from a good promo, but he's making an effort to put over his opponents now.

I dislike this internet obsession with "burying" people on the mic. It's like you can't talk down to your opponent anymore, people want it to be all "you're a great competitor and I'll have to work hard to beat you" respect-type stuff. The fans view it for what it is: talking trash. If a football player or boxer talks trash before a game/fight and beats his opponent, is he now "burying" them? When HHH comes out and says "You arn't in my league" or some other egotistical garbage, the fans boo because they know he's talking trash to the other guy, they don't look down on him for it. Same thing with The Rock: him calling Mick Foley a "bag of monkey crap" didn't make the fans think less of Mick, it made them more excited for the eventual confrontation.

I thought you had to be rated in the first place to be overrated? Who actually rates Edge as a credible performer? Put him in there with a guy who's capable of getting the best out of someone, and he's OK. His on/off selling doesn't help either, he forgets half way through the match then remembers again. At least he's trying though, most guys in WWE seem to be stuck in their ways.

Logically, if you know you have a hurt shoulder, you don't use that as an attack. Or if you do, you handle that gingerly to avoide further injury.

Not if it played a key part in your finisher.

Yes if the guy is neutralizing said finisher.

Plus, Edge has about half a dozen finishers, shouldn't be too hard to switch to using another one.
