Can't get TNA?

Recommended Posts

Guest The Thread Killer

I have been watching NWA-TNA since December, and I am hooked. The writing makes sense, it's well paced, the wrestling is good, (sometimes great) and most importantly, everybody seems to have a passion for what they are doing.

I first decided to give TNA a try after reading Dames and bps's reports, and am I ever glad I did. I usually HATE anything to do with Russo, but he seems to have finally gotten it through his thick skull (or maybe Jerry Jarrett did) that wrestlers have to WRESTLE.

Anyhow, one thing I have noticed in this folder, is that there have been a lot of people who have said that they wish they could see the show, but can't.

This has to be for one of two reasons

1) They can't get PPV where they live

or

2) They can't afford it.

I can't do much about #2, but if you want to see what NWA-TNA is all about, but didn't know how, maybe I can. I know a guy who has EVERY episode on tape, and is willing to share them with you for an EXTREMELY reasonable price.

His email address is [email protected] which you may recognize from Justin Baisden's 411 column as well. The Pegasus Kid has promoted him, and I do too. I don't work for him, but I am a customer.

Please be aware, I do NOT work for this guy, nor is he giving me ONE dollar for this plug!

I am ONLY telling you about this because I LOVE good wrestling and I want EVERYBODY to get a chance to see the NWA. If you don't believe me, please read this column I wrote for 411. It explains my feelings.

So if it's any help, give the guy a shout. He cuts some amazing deals, and if that's the only thing keeping you from seeing TNA, I wanted to help.

You can download all the episodes off of Kazaa for free. Seeing as how you're talking about people on these forums, they obviously have internet access, so why should they pay for it?

Erm, I've never seen an entire show on Kazaa before. Do you know something I don't?

Would there be more you could tell me about this? What to search for, where on Hotline, etc...

I want you and everyone else to listen very very closely. RUSSO IS A FUCKING WRITER. In WCW he was bought in to take Eric Bischoff's place. Do you know what Bischoff did? He BOOKED. He didn't write. HE BOOKED. So Vince Russo, who was brought in by Ted Turner, was told to BOOK. He is not, and I repeat NOT a booker. A booker makes matches. Matches that he thinks are good. Writers write the script. The storylines. The angles. The skits. The interviews. Not the matches. Russo wrote Austin vs McMahon. Vince McMahon and co. BOOKED Austin vs McMahon. Russo wrote DX vs The Nation. Vince McMahon and co. BOOKED DX vs The Nation. Russo wrote Triple H vs The Rock. Vince McMahon and co. BOOKED Triple H vs The Rock. Vince Russo wrote some of the greater angles and storylines wrestling ever saw when he was with the WWF because why? He wrote and Vince McMahon BOOKED! Vince Russo isn't in control in NWATNA. Vince Russo, if he does nothing else, is a leader. The leader of Sports Entertainment Xtreme. Vince Russo didn't book Jarrett vs The Truth. Jerry and Jeff Jarrett did. The only thing that Russo has probably done in his NWATNA career was call upon Sabu to fight in his one and only match vs Malice in a ladder match. So please, please, PLEASE, get it through your skull and your skull and your skull, that Vince Russo is a writer. He writes things. Vince Russo is NOT a booker. He doesn't book matches, he writes storylines. Storylines that created the best stuff fans ever saw. But it seems most marks AND smarks refuse to aknowledge his greater things and remember the bad things he did in WCW like give Bret Hart and Chris Benoit a push, and fire Hulk Hogan from WCW. The nerve of him to even think about doing such things that were long overdue. The nerve of him.

Sabu fought Ken Shamrock in a ladder match one week after his ladder match with Malice, so he's actually had two matches. I completely agree with you, however, Vince Russo probably has some say in the matches that are booked for TNA.

I want YOU to get something through YOUR head. You're TRYING to be a SMART-ASS, but you since you're not SMART, you just look like an ASS.

First and foremost, talking down to everybody does not contribute to any sort of intelligent conversation or debate, but since you're unwilling or incapable of doing that, let's talk to you in your own language.

You can call what Russo does BOOKING, you can call it WRITING, or you can call it DANCING. It doesn't MATTER what you call it, VINCE RUSSO DETERMINED WHAT HAPPENED ON T.V. A LOT OF THE TIME, in the WWF, in WCW, and NOW in TNA. Splitting hairs doesn't change what he does.

This is the man that put the World Heavyweight Championship on David Arquette. This is the man that thought people wanted to see Ed Russo fight Madusa.

His role as "WRITER" as you call it with TNA still has a DIRECT effect on what you see IN THE RING. Or maybe you think Jerry Jarrett "wrote" that mixed Tag Match tonight. Or that gawd awful train wreck of a segment with Tenay, Pringle, Goldy and Tony.

If you had paid attention to what I wrote, I was saying that in his current role, (having to obey the final say of the Jarrett’s) he has been effective. When he has absolute power, he has proven he couldn’t find his ass with two hands and a map. When he has a boss standing behind him, he can produce some moderately entertaining writing. Call it what you WANT, but Vince Russo produces what you see on TV, and when he is left to do that the way he WANTS to, he produces CRAP.

Then again, you actually think "Vince Russo wrote some of the greater angles and story-lines wrestling ever saw when he was with the WWF" which is not only incorrect, it shows that you have no knowledge whatsoever of Wrestling History.

Some people are on dial up, and don't feel like the wait. Some people don't DL stuff. Some people might just like to own stuff on video.

I have no doubt that some people ARE getting TNA from Kazaa, but the whole idea of my post was that if people wanted to get it on VIDEO, this guy is a good guy to get it from.

And judging from a couple of emails I've gotten tonight, some people ARE going to do that, so "obviously", it was worth it.

This is the same man who was brought in to BOOK matches, something he had never done before in his career. And since I don't know Wrestling History, and you seem to know the 2000+ year history of the sport, please, demonstrate your knowledge.

So you expect people to believe that after working in the WWF all those years, as "just a writer" that he shouldn't have KNOWN that putting the title on Arquette was going to anger the core audience?

If ANYTHING, by being front and center during one of the biggest booms in the history of the sport, (and in YOUR opinion being a PART of that) he should have known better than ANYBODY what DOES and DOESN'T work.

You know WHY he didn't know? Because he was EXPOSED in WCW for what he WAS. A hack. Somebody who could have success as part of a TEAM, when he was surrounded by people who KNEW how far he could push his drek, before actual WRESTLING had to enter the picture?

This is a man who has openly BRAGGED about the fact that the way he came up with story ideas, is that he would watch Jerry Springer, and copy what the topics were. This is not a rumor, this is not a dig, it's a FACT.

So in YOUR mind, a man who got his ideas from JERRY SPRINGER, was responsible for "writing some of the greater angles and story-lines wrestling ever saw."

In the WWF he had people like McMahon and Patterson to remind him that the story had to go back to WRESTLING, just like he has Jarrett to do now. If he's as great as you contend, shouldn't he have been able to figure that out on his OWN?

But he didn't. He didn't because he doesn't respect wrestling, he's a video store clerk who thinks he's a genius, and steals his ideas from daytime television. He has no respect for history, and he thinks that a championship belt is a prop. He once said that he'd like writing wrestling better if they didn't have to have in the RING.

THAT is why he's a hack, THAT is why most other wrestlers hate him, and THAT is why he failed when left on his own, and he will probably never succeed by himself. Unless he's finally learned from Jarrett that there has to be some actual WRESTLING on a WRESTLING show.

As far as learning Wrestling History, sure I can help you. Go buy "The Top 100 Wrestlers Of All Time." Read it. Get a subscription to The Observer. Read that. Go buy some Puro tapes. Watch them.

Then come back and tell me that VINCE RUSSO is responsible for some of the greater angles and story lines wrestling ever saw

The company sounds extremely cool, but I just don't find it feasible to drop 10 bucks every week for it. I respect the company for what it is trying to do, but I think it is a rip-off. I love wrestling, but not this much.

Also, problems to lie within Russo. I had trouble swallowing the Owen Hart name-dropping. This guy can put out entertaining stuff, but his egotistical self righteous act wears very thin. Many of the people the TNA brings are only good for nostalgia purposes and wouldn't get me hooked. Though, the acquisition of Raven was key. Raven, along with Jarrett, Styles, Lynn, Daniels, Skipper, and Killings are the only ones who really interest me. Everyone else are pretty much flash in the pans. If and when the show comes to free TV, I'll be all over. Honestly, I am surprised the company has went on this long with this PPV set-up.

Just to clarify (although Im not sure I understand the argument to begin with) both the Observer and the Torch have revealed that Russo has been involved in writing the shows with the Jarrets since TNA's beginning. So there you go.

I prefer to have the videos at my fingertips to watching things on my computer. I may need to get in touch with this guy since I still haven't seen weeks 1 and 3 (the only ones I missed) and would like to finish up my collection. Thanks TTK.

My pleasure bps. A few people have told me that they are going to try and pick up the shows they haven't seen, or buy a couple of shows from this guy.

I'm glad I could help anybody if I did. I think with the WWE as the hights of suckitude that it is at right now, fans should support a new product as much as they can.

Any meagre dollars that they have to spend to get to know NWA-TNA may not go into the league's pockets directly. However, if in the long run it increases awareness of the show, and encourages people to buy, that's a good thing in my humble opinion.

WWE is not as bas as it once last fall or last spring- it's doing MUCH better.

I disageee with that whole 'since WWE sucks- do your duty and support TNA'- TNA sounds like a fun promotion but it doesn't sound any better then Smackdown and Smackdown costs me $0 and TNA costs me $10

For me GM, I can't for two reasons.

First, I live on a farm and we have Satellite, not cable.

Second, even the "black boxes" for cable or the "gray chips" for Satellite don't usually last long, because (here at least) with them being digital, they just re-scramble it EVERY Friday.

If there was a way AROUND that, I'd so be on it.

And Bob, I have heard that SD is better than RAW, but I think that Vince and Comapny HAVE to have SOME kind of competition in order to stay fresh. He's usually at his WORST when he gets stagnant, and at his BEST when he's pissed off at his competition.

In my opinion.

I think you're opinion is dead on Thread Killer. Vince does seem to respond better to competition. (witness NWA in the late-80's and WCW in the mid-90's.) WWE tends to pull out all the stops when there is a challenger to their throne.

Bob is also right, WWE is doing much better when it comes to last spring. But to me, the reason TNA is worth the $10 as an alternative is the attitude that runs through the company. Something the WWE is lacking I think. (it's not vital but it is icing on the cake)

The attitude is one of enthusiasm. The new debuts each week, everyone being involved in something, etc. It's like the Monday Night Wars...only with one promotion. (This is all my opinion by the way.)

TNA comes off to me as WCW had WCW not catered to all the old-time main eventers. TNA uses those types as support to storyline with Raven, Jarrett, Styles, Lynn, etc. taking to spotlight. I think WCW would still be alive had they taken their early 2001 approach much earlier. I think TNA is following that blueprint with a dash of 1996 WCW. (the invasion)

It's Ed Ferrara I believe.

I can and would get TNA if I actually thought it'd be good. I don't wanna watch JJ and K-Kwik and a bunch of indy guys do spotfests because I think it'd look bush league.

Err, it's RON KILLINGS. Vince made him K-Kwik, but NWA-TNA actually values him and does something with him, because he's a talented wrestler. Hey, Vince could do with some of those.

As for Russo, the problem with WCW I think was he was given full reign. The guy went mad with power...literally. But now, Jerry Jarrett is like Vince McMahon. The outlandish ideas such as Viagra on a Pole and David Arquette as HV Champ can be shot down and his better ideas can be used and developed on. The guy earlier was right, he's a writer not a booker. He needs someone to manage his ideas, and an lod school guy like Jerry Jarrett is the perfect person.

If only Vince would let Jim Cornette do more for WWE like he has OVW...Heyman vs Cornette as a calm feud on Raw and Smackdown would make WWE much better.

Cornette doesn't want to be part of the creative team and is very happy with OVW
