WWE House Show Results 02.01.03 - New York City, N

Guest Insane Bump Machine
Thanks to 411 reader Mishmow Too Cool for sending in this report.

I sat down in my seat with a friend, and was prepared for an average, elementary show with a bunch of duds. There was only about 6,000 people in the areana(ouch). Pretty hot crowd. No stage. Pyro was all in the ring, and wrestlers came out of a basic walkway.

Out came Howard Finkel at 7:40 to do what he does. Huge pop.

Talks about copyrights, etc. "booring" chants have already started.

Some music starts and out comes Big stevie cool. Lots of ECW fans around us so that was cool....Spike Dudley comes out next. Uh oh. Some pretty basic moves from Stevie. Pretty boring match that ended with the Stevie T.

Winner via Pinfall - Steven Richards.

3 Minute Warning's music comes on, and I'm thinking, "OH SHIT!"

Out comes Rico, to my relief. Then some unfamiliar music hits, and to my surprise it was Sean O'Haire. He got a mixed reaction (His gimmick is to ambiguous to determine whether he's a face or heel). Solid match. O'Haire might be big - he's got the skills. Well, he could use a bit more moves. O'Haire via Razorz Edge/crucifix powerbomb. Probably going to be given some satanic name. Pretty big pop.

Winner via Pinfall - Sean O'Haire

Up goes my 411wrestling.com poster.

D'Lo's music hits and out he comes. Then followed by the Whole F'n Show. GIANT pop. wasn't expecting the pyro. Slow start to the match. Lot of kicks into the air by RVD to intimidate D'Lo. OK, but D'Lo botched a lot. Ended with the Five Star. Lots of celebrating post match.

Winner via Pinfall - Rob Van Dam

Up goes the quote of the night from Scott Kieth. Love his columns. [/stops sucking up] Hey what do ya know, perhaps i'll work for you guys one day ;)

Up goes the Raw X Sucked sign. Vince gave me a dirty look later when he came out. Cool, kinda.....

Christian's music hit. Here he comes. My friend shouts profusely. Then comes the Booker Man. pyro in the ring. I was looking forward to this. Christian goes on the rope and gets heat. Booker mimics and get a large pop. Christian then told him "this is how it's done" and jumped on the ropes, but tripped (purposely). Then he got up and got heat. Fantastic. Then there was a good match. No botches, good textbook cheating and a spinaroonie. Christian got a chair, but booker knocked it out of his hands and hit the scissors kick on top of it.

Winner via Pinfall - Booker T

Up goes my ECW sign, and all of us ECW guys go nuts. Then people got wierded out so we stopped. Is there a job available at 411???? I'll do anything!

Heeeeres BatistA w/Ric Flair vs The roided freak, Big Poppa Pill, Scott Steiner. WAIT, DOING A HOUSE SHOW? WTF? DAMN! Some shitty moves to start. My mate went wild for Flair. Belly to Belly. Bathroom Break. I walked back to my seat to see none other than another belly to belly. Steiner hit a CRAPPY looking powerbomb to win.

Steiner via Pinfall

Intermission....But I just went to the bathroom. Aww shucks.

We come back.

Womens title match

Molly Holly vs Jaqueline vs Victoria

Some terrible looking moves. Teamwork from the heals before Jackie comes back. Some fights over the pin, and a BRAWL ERUPTS. THREE TALENTED WOMEN BRAWLING IN THE RING. What action! Booring chants are started around us. Stevie comes out to help Victoria.

Winner via Pinfall - Victoria

Jericho w/ Christian vs Test

Not too great a match. Almost no cheating. Test really sucks. Jericho botches the Lionsault and get a two. Christian goes on the apron to distract the ref while Jericho hits a low blow. Pin gets three. Are the precious testicles of Test his achilles heal? That could work.....maybe.

Winner via Pinfall - Y2J

Lance Storm and William Regal come to the ring for ANOTHER tag title defence against the DUDley Boyz. Lots of USA and Table chants. Some basic stuff to start. Very cool back body drop spot by Lance. Heels keeping D-von in the corner. DESPERATE tag to Buh Buh. Out comes Morely to distract Buh Buh. DUDs get brass knucks and lose the match. Morley puts a table in the ring, but out comes Spike. Morley goes through the table with a 3D. BIG BIG BIG POP. Their best match against eachother so far. Not great.

Winner via Pinfall - Will and Lance

THE MAIN EVENT. OH MY GOD. Steph comes out to a large ovation. Then comes Lesner to an even larger one. Then come Triple H and Ric flair to an only slightly smaller one....Until we see Triple H's cruches. He says he can't wrestle, and even has a note from his doctor. This might have been funny if he didn't do it on RAW. Vince comes out and says Trips has to wrestle, but Paul E comes out with a contingency plan. Brock has to fight Shelton Benjamin. If he wins he has to fight Charlie Haas. If he wins that he gets to fight Angle for the title.

Benjamin and Brock go at it for waaay too long, and the crowd are killed. Brock botched a HIP TOSS! That almost single handedly made people lose interest. jesus. Brock wins with an F5, and squashes Haas. Then comes Angle. Wrestlemania early, baby. A few good moves and an ankle lock. A few germans go back and forth. Brock has Angle set up, but Team Angle get the save. Brock gives them both F5's and celebrates to end the show. If this is what wrestlemania is going to be like then let me prewarn you to not order it.

Winner via DQ - Brock Lesner

Overall a mediocre/Ok show. Nothing special or stand out at all except for Steiner at a house show, and Brock botching the most basic move.

Biggest Pops:

1.Table Spot

2.Steiner :(

3.Booker T

4.RVD

5.Howard Finkel :-O

Biggest Heat:

1.Christian

2.Triple H's excuse

3.Paul Heyman

4.Rico

5.Team Angle

Best Match - Booker T vs Christian

sounds eh....

To be fair, they did 'give away' the WM12 main event on 2 house shows in the weeks leading up to WM12. It didn't seem to hurt that show.

I know. Why didn't they just do RVD vs. Angle or something? That would have been a very interesting, new matchup with two very over guys in it. Now everyone who reads the net (and the people in attendance of course) will have their anticipation for Angle vs. Lesnar at Wrestlemania lowered.

The hiptoss thing and the match quality doesn't bother me, though. Lesnar had to fight three matches in a row, and his match with Beyamin was apparently too long. It's not surprising that his match against Angle didn't blow the roof off after that.

Oh no, don't tell me 2000-2001 Jericho is coming back. I hope it was just an off night and nothing more, but I don't know yet.

When you get 6,000 for a house show in MSG, you know it's time to lick your wounds and kill off the brand extension when it comes to house shows. I'm sure the attendance would of been higher also if they promoted these certain matches (Angle vs. Lesnar).

Also, fire Steiner. Please.

And when RVD is wrestling D-LO BROWN...you know that politics have really fucked him over.

This 411 reporter was smoking crack.

MSG had a lot more than 6000 people there, and the women's match was among the best of the night.

Almost no cheating in the Jericho/Test match? Guess a low blow by Christian at the end, and the five or six run-ins by him during the match was 'no cheating' by ECW standards.

411 is to WWE women's wrestling as Randolph Heart was to Orson Welles.

It's just a house show- who cares. They should've given it more then 2 minutes though- MSG is the WWE's home arena and should always be treated as such.

I'm sorry but isn't Mania the freaking biggest pay-per-view. Sure give it away on a house show.

It's just a house show- it's no big deal. No one ever is gonna know about and if that hurts youre enjoyment for Brock v. Angle then you have issues.

They always do a test run of matches at house shows so they know what works and what doesnt.

AS- MSG is still treated pretty well- as something special always happens there. The house show last June had an Eddy v. RVD ladder match

Consdiering it was promoted as interpromotional (which should be in itself a pretty big draw), ending the brand extension won't help that much. If people are turned off, they're turned off. Overexposing characters and slicing up any chance for elevation won't help gain fan interest.

You gotta love that Triple H guy. Man, that time off he took for his thigh really helped. And that 25 pounds of muscle. Golly, he's so great...

Guest D'Lo White

I was at the show and will add a few quick thoughts from it.

There was alot of empty seats, but I do believe it was alot more then 6,000.

I really liked the RVD/D'Lo match and the crowd was into it. D'Lo actually got some decent heel heat. There was a few botched spots, but nothing major or Gayda-like.

Besides Jacqueline, Test was by far the least over face.

The women's match wasn't bad, but the crowd was completely dead for it.

Nobody around me knew who Chief Morley was when he came out.

I really felt bad for Team Angle, as many people left during their match and the Brock/Benjamin match got some boring chants. It was really a tough spot for them as the crowd was pissed at no Brock/HHH match. So this match never had a chance to get a good response.

In Brock's defense, it can be very easy to both a hip toss if both people involved in the mood are not on the same page. For all we know, it could have been something on Hass's end, we don't know. The fact though, is that when two guys aren't on the same page, it can fuck up the most basic of moves, it sometimes takes two to fuck up.

Anyone booing Brock/Shelton needs their ass kicked, period.

If they can't get anymore than 6,000 at that arena, then I don't think there's been a flashing warning sign any greater than this one, when it comes to fans interest.

For those complaining about "giving away" the Lesner-Angle match.

This is what House shows are for. Angle and Lesner have to practice. They have to get ready for there big match. What better way then house shows? It lets them work with each other and it gives the crowd a small treat for coming out.

I went to the MSG house show last night also as i live in NJ and i wanna add a few things.

----- The report of their being 6,000 is waaaaaay off. I would say there was more like 9,000 - 11,000 people there.

----- D-Lo was actually very entertaining as he recieved a lot of heel heat and interacted with the crowd well.

----- Christian was priceless. He was hilarious with his antics and his heel heat was top 3 for the night.

----- When Test's music played the crowd popped big, but when they realized there was no Stacy that ended quickly. Worst face reaction of the night goes to Test. Actually Jericho got more face heat than Test. And i mean ALOT more.

----- When Team Angle came out to face Brock i would say Brock was in with Benjamin for about 8 minutes and they mostly mat wrestled, but the crowd seemed to be bored by it. Then Brock was in there with Haas for about 3-4 minutes as Haas only worked the leg. To be honest Brock and Angle were in their for only a few minutes and for almost half of the time angle had the ankle lock on Brock as soon as he got in the ring. I wouldnt call it a match at all with Brock vs. Angle. Both guys got a few moves in and thats it.

Biggest Pops:

1)Brock Lesnar

2)RVD

3)Booker T

4)Scott Steiner

5)Dudley Boys

Biggest Heat:

1)Triple H

2)Chris Jericho

3)Christian

4)Storm/Regal

5)Rico

Best match of the night:

Storm/Regal vs. Dudley Boys (the crowd was into the whole match and there was some good action)

3)

The crowd had EVERY right too Lesnar v. Benjamin.

They had just gotten screwed out of Triple H v. Brock and they had to sit through two guys doing some boring mat wrestling and not working the crowd??

Benjamin and Lesnar should've known this and instead worked a match to get the crowd into it- NOT shown off what they learned at University of Minnesota

Anyone who boo's a wrestling match has no respect from me, I don't care what was scheduled. Perhaps they could rethink being a "wrestling fan"? This is one of the problems, many who are wrestling fans, aren't REALLY "wrestling fans".

I completely agree with you Bob. The crowd was already pissed that HHH wasnt gonna wrestle. We were ALL ready for that match. I usually like to see mat wrestling, but under last nights circumstances they should have had some brawling, and working the crowd.

I personally dont like brawling. But, it's different when the fans are pissed and feel ripped off to begin with and are chanting "boring" during the mat wrestling. They wanted some excitement. I was enjoying it and surprisingly enough so was my girl. I think she was actually enjoying looking at brock more though

Most of you seem to be confusing an amatuer wrestling match with a pro-wrestling match. I hate amateur wrestling; it's incredibly boring. If Angle and Lesnar spend most of their time wrestling on the mat at WrestleMania, don't be surprised if people revolt and start a "boring" chant. I do not want to see amateur wrestling on WWE T.V., especially if it's WORKED. I want to see pro-wrestling with a mix of holds, suplexes, psychology, and punches/kicks. Only .05% of the WWE fan base wants to see amatuer wrestling in a WWE ring.

Instead of doing mat wrestling they should've done a match that involved spots to get the crowd into it. It's great that they decided to do some mat wrestling but it wasn't the right time to do it and MSG had every right to be bored.

They except a big brawl between Brock and Triple H and they didn't get what they expected

Ok, lemme be a little more specific......when i say "Mat" wrestling i mean Benjamin had Brock down for a good minute and a half in a cover position without moving...then Brock reversed it and did the same......This looked like a standard high school wrestling match. Truthfully, Brock spent a TON of time lying down on the mat from the beginning so there have been something wrong with him last night. It seems like he was off his feet 95% of the time
