Black Tiger review: ECW Anarchy Rulz 1999

Recommended Posts

You underrated The 3 way and the Main. I can't help but feel you intentionally gave them low ratings. I admit, I am biased to this period so you can see why I disagree. I feel a lot of people dismiss the 2000 work of ECW since creatively it wasn't up to par with their glory days.

-------------

(What the other two were doing at the time)

Unforgiven

Val Venis pinned Steve Blackman (6:33).

D-Lo Brown pinned Mark Henry (9:11) to win the WWF European Title.

WWF I-C Title Jeff Jarrett beat Chyna (11:52) via DQ.

Farooq & Bradshaw beat Buh Buh Ray & D-Von Dudley (7:28) when Farooq pinned D-Von.

WWF Women's Champ Ivory pinned Luna Vachon (3:37) in a "hardcore" match.

WWF Tag Champs The New Age Outlaws beat Edge & Christian (11:09) when Gunn pinned Edge.

WWF Hardcore Champ Al Snow beat The Big Bossman (11:42) in a "steel cage inside hell in a cell" match.

X-Pac beat Chris Jericho (13:10) via DQ.

Hunter Hearst Helmsley won a "six pack" match (20:28) to win the vacant WWF World Title when he pinned The Rock. Also in the match were: The Big Show, Kane, Mankind, & Davey Smith. Steve Austin was the special referee.

------------

Fall Brawl

Rey Misterio Jr., Eddie Guerrero, & Billy Kidman beat Vampiro & The Insane Clown Posse (14:14) when Kidman pinned Vampiro.

WCW Cruiserweight Champ Lenny Lane pinned Kaz Hayashi (12:09).

Hugh Morrus & Brian Knobbs beat Dean Malenko & Shane Douglas (9:26) in a "no DQ" match when Morrus pinned Malenko.

WCW TV Champ Rick Steiner pinned Saturn (9:23).

Berlyn pinned Jim Duggan (7:58).

Harlem Heat beat Barry & Kendall Windham (13:05) to win the WCW Tag Title when Booker pinned Kendall.

Sid Vicious pinned Chris Benoit (11:48) to win the U.S. Title.

Bill Goldberg pinned Diamond Dallas Page (9:04).

Sting pinned Hulk Hogan (13:55) to win the WCW World Title.

RRR,

Which three way are you talking about? What would you rate RVD vs. Ballz? I'd have given it DUD except for RVD's crowd dive. The match was horrible in every sense of the word.

The Tazz/Awesome/Tanaka three way.

I would give Ballz/RVD *** 1/4 (yes, that 1/4 does matter!)

When I first watched it I didn't think much of it, but the second time I enjoyed it a lot more. I will watch it again to make sure that is still true and take points from it and bring it back here, ok?

"Pass this one up, unless you must have every ECW PPV and/or commerical video. "

Are you being serious ?

IMO this was one of ECW's strongest PPV outings. This makes me wonder how much ECW you have seen.

The less said about your rating of the three way the better.

Does anyone have any suggestions of Jerry Lynns best matches in ECW.

As a rapidly developing Jerry Lynn mark, I was thinking about getting some of his ECW stuff.

I gotta agree with him. I thought Anarchy Rulz '99 sucked.

Their next PPV was far better though.

It had three strong matches, the two three ways and Lynn vs Storm [sabu vs Credible in my eyes was entertaining enough as well]. Considering the fact I have seen ECW shows with no solid matches at all how someone can come to the conclusion that the whole thing "sucks" is beyond me.

Hot crowd as well.

Chunk, Jerry vs RVD are all good fun although don't expect the world from them. Plus the matches vs Justin Credible x2, Tajiri, Little Guido, the three way vs Tajiri and Super Crazy, with RVD vs the Impact players.... I ain't a massive fan but he had alot of solid matches in ECW.

vs RVD were Living Dangerously 99- Hardcore Heaven 99 and a TNN show. Tajiri was Cyberslam 99, the Credible matches were Matter of Respect 98 + Heatwave 98, the tag match with RVD vs Impact players was Heatwave 99. The Little Guido match and the 3 way I forget and theres stuff on telly to watch. Search on the net and you'll find the shows.

I politely disagree with some match ratings...but a good review nonetheless!

IMO this was one of ECW's strongest PPV outings. This makes me wonder how much ECW you have seen.

Barely Leagal 1997, Heatwave 1998, and November 2 Remember 2000 are a hell of a lot better than AR 1999, I've heard good things about GAC 1999, but I've never seen it so I can't comment. If you want to see a REAL kick ass ECW show, check out Hardcore Heaven 1996, (I reviewed it on RG, but it was one of my first ever reviews and it sucks) Jericho takes Pit Bull 2 to a good match, Sabu and RVD tear it up, and Gordy and Raven have what Raven says is "The match of his career)

I used to be a huge ECW mark, but after Taz won the world title it all started to go downhill for them.

Sorry that so many disagree about the ECW Title three way dance. The match came off as nothing really more than a spotfest involving tables, chairs and crazy bumps. You could argue that about their Heatwave 1998 match as well, but its presented in a much different manner and has better heat.

Nothing to be sorry about, you gave your reasons for the rating, and wrote a good review of the show.

It wouldnt have been nearly as good if you had just agreed with every other review before. Its cool to hear other/different perspectives of shows.

Is that a show or a comp? When did it take place/come out?

ChUnK!

The match was in July of 1998, its on the Deep Impact comp put out by pioneer, I'm pretty sure its on both the VHS and DVD versions.

Just for the hell of it I read Scott Keith's review of the same show and here's how our ratings paired up. His ratings were done on the live PPV

Lynn vs. Storm ***1/2, same as mine

Tajiri vs. Crazy vs. Guido **1/4 I gave it ***. (Makes sense because he said he'd seen them go at it on ECW TV in better matches)

Sabu vs. Credible *1/2 I gave it **

Three Way Dance for title ****, I gave it **1/2, I'll have to re-watch Heatwave and see how it holds up

RVD vs. Ballz *, I have it an extra 1/2*

Except the two three way dances were were pretty much even on ratings.

I thought Unforgiven was actually pretty good show, so if you are trying to same that the WWF was crap at that time, I'm not seeing your comparison.

Guest Smell the ratings!!!

I was at this show, and I can confirm that both 3 ways kicked ass. But the main was eh.

NOTE: I am in class, and so I can not be bothered to read the review. But I will. Just not now.

If you have wrestlepalooza 1997 I would be interested to hear your review. I liked the show, a lot of people didn't.

Sorry Genius I don't have that show right now. I don't know what my next review will be, probably something out of NJPW. My next ECW review will probably be something out of 1996, Hostile City Showdown, or a re-do of Hardcore Heaven or a re-do of House Party.
