Welcome to the Gambling Thread for WrestleMania XIX! Hopefully with new rules implemented we can shake things up a bit. I've decided to eliminate the $100 survivor award, it just didn't make any sense to me to keep it. Anyways....

The rules are as follows:

 

1--You can now make bets up to $500 on any one match. However, these bets must be by 50's. (50, 100, 150, ect.) All bets are double or nothing. (ie: Poster bets $50 on match, wins gets 50 they bet plus another 50, loses they lose their bet)

 

2--You have to bet at least $400 on each show to avoid sandbagging. Those with less than $400 in the bank must bet all the money they have.

 

3--You must bet on every match (unless you don't have enough money). This will help with people just betting on the matches whose outcome is obvious, and not the ones that aren't so obvious.

 

4--To place your bets, simply cut & paste from the card below and put who you're betting on and the amount you’re gambling under the match.

 

5--No-contests, Double DQs, double count-outs, time-limit draws etc. result in a no win/no lose situation and negate the bet.

 

6--Anyone who drops down to $0 in the bank is not allowed back in – they must live with the stigma of being a stupid wrestling fan until the day they die.

 

7--Betting will be closed 30-60 minutes before the PPV, but you may edit your bets in the thread up until that time. Anyone caught betting after that time will be disqualified.

 

8--5 newbies are allowed in this month. Please try and check to make sure that there is an available space before applying, otherwise you will have to wait till next month.

An Idea:

For certain bets some sort of handicap would be good, like paying $50 or $100 for choosing the overwhelming favorite. The amount wouldn't be part of the bet, just a fee for the privilege for betting on the said overwhelming favorite, regardless of the outcome. If that doesn't make sense then forget it.

If you want feedback on the game, here are a few points:

 

1) I think it'd be much more interesting if you had money lines on these matches. There are too many easy matches that the rich guys can lay a lot of money on. With money lines, peoplep could conceivably catch up on the leaders quicker, riskier picks would be rewarded, peoples' picks would actually be different, it would just make the game a lot more dynamic.

 

Is there ANY reason to, for example, bet on Angle in the main event? Maybe an unfair example, because of his injury, but logic says he'd still be dead meat anyway. Change it to Jericho WM X-8 if you want another example. If I'm laying $100 on Angle winning, I should get something like $400 back, just like betting on a big underdog in a sports game. Likewise, I should have to bet several hundred just to win $100 on Lesnar.

 

Think about how much somebody could've CLEANED UP betting on Angle beating HHH at No Way Out 2002, or Jericho winning it all at Vengeance 2001, if one were to make such bold bets. In the current system there would be no reason to stick your neck out like that. This would be a cleaner way of handling what you're doing, with the forcing of a bet on every match and stuff. You know the problem but there is a more elegant answer that makes the game more exciting.

 

A few sample lines for Sunday's card could be as follows:

 

Chris Jericho (-110) vs. Shawn Michaels (-110)

HHH (-140) vs. Booker T (+120)

Hulk Hogan (-280) vs. Vince McMahon (+240)

Brock Lesnar (-400) vs. Kurt Angle (+350)

 

 

2) You could spice up the game with proposition bets. Which match will be the longest.. which match will go on last.. will there be a run-in in the main event.. will Goldberg make an appearance (+150) Stuff like that.

 

3) Only allowing 5 newbies per contest, that's just not enough. Here, all slots were filled within an hour of your post. It takes more luck to get INTO the game than it does to win money in it once you're in

1. I do like the idea of specific odds for different matches, the problem is though, how to decide those odds. I don't personally find myself qualified enough to do that.

 

2. These are interesting, and I may add them as I see fit or if their is enough demand for them, such as picking the final four in the rumble.

 

3. I would like to allow more people in but frankly, I'd rather not do that much work, especially if the rules are more complex, which would take alot more time.
