Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted April 3, 2003 Report Posted April 3, 2003 con, I've just finished The Rules Of Attraction, and after having read that and Glamorama, I'm thoroughly convinced that Bret Easton Ellis is simply the greatest author of our time. Who plays who in the movie? Does Van Der Beek play Sean or Paul? Who plays Lauren?
The Dames Posted April 3, 2003 Report Posted April 3, 2003 Van Der Beek is Sean. Shannon Sossman (sp?) playes Lauren. Dames
Guest Vern Gagne Posted April 3, 2003 Report Posted April 3, 2003 Stalag 17 William Holden gives my all time favorite performance by an actor. The movie brings both the postive and negative of POW camps. A dark undertone, with POW's trying their best to make the best out of the situation.

" your ? was answered but im glad youve read them Ellis is THE MAN Glamorama comes out in 2004 now Ellis just needs to get a new book out the guy who plays Paul (Ian something) does a great job as the character as well the one and only thing i dont liek about the movie is the drug dealer sub plot ..during some scenes it just seems a little forced..but thats a very minor complaint and its not like it ruins it..they just seem a tad out of place "deal with it..rock and roll"
Guest godthedog Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 'it's a wonderful life', for purely personal reasons. cheesiest movie ever, but i truly do not give a shit. i cry and cry every time i see it. once in a great while, a movie will have a scene that clicks like nothing else & give me chills; 'it's a wonderful life' has four or five of those scenes in it. especially the ending, it just overwhelms me. i worshipped jimmy stewart as a kid, and the theme running through the movie of being trapped in a shitty town by factors beyond your control was something i could always relate to in a very personal way because it's always scared me so much. the whole movie's got a great beauty in its simplicity that i've always wanted to imitate.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 So con, Rupert's scenes (the drugdealer Sean owes money to) aren't that good?
Guest Crucifixio Jones Posted April 5, 2003 Report Posted April 5, 2003 Good picks by everyone (for the most part) but Dr. Tom picks Scent of a Woman? I'm disappointed. Pacino deserved an Oscar sure, but not the same year that Washington portrayed Malcolm X. O'Donnell, though? Um...NO. I don't see where the story is all that special, either. Completely contrived and totally predictable. We've seen that ending A MILLION TIMES. My favorite movie would be Leon: The Professional.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 Pretty funny that Hanks won it for Gump either way. My favourite movie is, was, and always has been Shawshank Redemption. I can watch this movie time and time again, without being as moved every time. I can't really explain my love for it I guess, but it just seems like a perfect movie to me all the way around. I should point that I haven't seen as much cinema as I would have liked to, so that might change soon enough. Some movies, while not my favourite, that still hold that kind of power to me personally are American History X, Glory, and Malcolm X. Interesting in that they share a similar theme for the most part...
Guest HHH123007 Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 Chasing Amy. I could watch it on a loop for the rest of my life...
Guest MillenniumMan831 Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 Major League Being a Clevelander, it's weird to see Cleveland not even able to win a World Championship in a movie. Seriously, Srping Training and Opening Day are two of the funniest scenes in a movie I've seen. Plus, how can you go wrong with Bob Eucker? "Post game show brought to you by . . . Aw Christ, I can't find it, the hell with it!"
Guest Crucifixio Jones Posted April 6, 2003 Report Posted April 6, 2003 Um...Hanks didn't win the Oscar for Forrest Gump the year that Denzel and Pacino competed for it. Pacino did.
Guest ArkhamGlobe Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 I've always had trouble naming ONE personal favourite, there are just too many movies I like, but I usually end up going with Dr Strangelove for these reasons: Peter Sellers. Ken Adam's sets. Stanley Kubrick's direction. It just keeps getting better and funnier every single time I see it.
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 I'd have to go with Scarface. I can just watch it again and again and enjoy it every bit as much as the first time. Honorable mentions: Revenge of the Nerds Slapshot Taxi Driver Strange Brew
Guest CanadianChris Posted April 7, 2003 Report Posted April 7, 2003 Raiders of the Lost Ark. Probably the finest adventure movie ever made. I've watched it so many times I've nearly worn out the tape.

And if you disagree, well, don't pull your sheets off in the morning.

Who cares nobody's listening anyway" I officially proclaim my desire to see WWE bring back Bob Uecker for WM XX.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted April 8, 2003 Report Posted April 8, 2003 Um...Hanks didn't win the Oscar for Forrest Gump the year that Denzel and Pacino competed for it. Pacino did. My bad, I had always thought it was released the same year Forrest Gump had come out. Oh well, I think that decision just reeks of politics, if you know what I mean. *wink wink* *Nudge Nudge* I never get the date of most of these movies since I didn't actually watch them when they came out originally....
