Crappy sappy movies you watched... and liked

Recommended Posts

Guest Spicy McHaggis

Okay, I'm not ashamed to admit it, I saw "A Walk To Remember" with Mandy Moore and liked it. I retained my last shred of manhood not getting emotional towards the end (I'm such a wuss).

So, what crappy sappy movies have you seen/liked/enjoyed etc.? Don't be ashamed.

When I was the thread title I thought to myself, "Walk to Remember." I saw it with fifteen girls, and I was shocked that I enjoyed it. Since then, I've seen it...

*Once on DVD

*Once on DVD with commentary on.

*Once on HBO

*Once with the special education kids that I help out. I doubt they really get the meaning behind the film, but, whatever.

Good. I'm glad it's not just me.

A Walk To Remember.

It's in my all-time favorite top 15. Sue me.

EDIT: Serendipity & How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days aren't bad either.

The Wedding Planner.

Fucking shoot me now.

Yeah, I liked it too.

Paid $10 to see it on the day of it's release. Sue me, I have a soft spot in my movie heart for J-Lo.

I LOVE The American President, which surprises the hell out of most everyone who knows me because it's a well-known that I:

- generally hate romantic comedies

- am sick and tired of the sappy "Hollywood ending"

- don't often agree with the left's point of view, so the fact that I like that movie despite its politics catches some people by surprise

Wow, you guys are so gay lol jk

Now my turn:

City of Angels

Titanic (I've only seen it once - the day it came out in theaters ... not bad)

The Wedding Singer (yeah, more comedy than anything but the ending was sappy and I loved it)

Shakespeare in Love

Jerry Maguire ("Did you know ... that my neighbor has three rabbits?" ... now picture Horatio Sanz saying that)

Shakespeare In Love doesn't really fit with the thread. It's not crappy nor is it very sappy.

I was going to say Moulin Rouge, but then I remembered that it's not crappy at all so it shouldn't count.

Me...I'm a bitch.

I loved Titanic, I watched Felicity regularly and Dawson's Creek.

Never seen A Walk to Remember.

Notting Hill & Serendipity too.

Pretty in Pink

John Hughes' Brat Pack movies don't count, as they are neither crappy nor sappy.

Bed of Roses, however, fits the bill, if only because Mary Stuart Masterson completely rocks my world.

Sweet merciful crap! How could I forget that one? It took every ounce of strength I had to keep from crying when I watched this movie, as I was in the midst of my "proud, manly teenager" stage of life and thus wouldn't allow myself to cry over a damn movie.

Where The Heart Is, I think.

As for me, c'mon...I watch/watched and tape/taped shows like 90210 and Dawson's Creek on a regular basis. Jeez, I teared up during the California Dreams finale. I, much like Dames, am a bitch.

To the shock of many who know about my "spend money on movies as soon as you get paid" habits, I own, yet have never seen Titanic. Seen no more than a minute here or there on HBO. I think it was on NBC last year, and I missed it then. I'm not exactly in a hurry to watch it.

And I defy the term "crappy/sappy", because that's one persons opinion, not mine. But I'll give you some of the movies that fall into your description that I like:

Chances Are (Robert Downey Jr. and Cybil Shepard...gets played on HBO quite often). I freakin' LOVE this movie. I remember the day I finally managed to tape it off TV, I spotted it in a video store that night and still bought it.

I liked The Wedding Planner also.

Maybe not sappy but it certainly was CRAPPY.

'shakespeare in love' was quite the opposite of crappy. tom stoppard is a god.

i haven't seen it in a while, but i remember loving the old robert downey jr movie 'heart and souls' to death.

i haven't seen this one in a while too, and i don't know if it would qualify as crappy, but i remember bawling my damn eyes out at the end of 'the fox and the hound'. aside from 'alice in wonderland', that's gotta be my favorite animated disney movie ever.

Oh yeah. Hell of a tearjerker. When Shadow is stuck in the hole and gives up, the tears well up. Then when the kid is looking out waiting for Shadow after the other two come back. Then Shadow comes walking up over the hill...

Excuse me, I've got something in my eye...
