Guest Mole Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 I've never seen this topic before, and I always thought this was interesting. Who do you think is the most famous person in the world? Someone whose name that most of the people in the world know, dead or alive. I'm gonna go with Jesus. Don't say God, a real person. What about you fellas?
Guest MaxPower27 Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 I remember seeing that it's some Islamic name
Guest Choken One Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 Jesus. For A Person. Oprah. Napololean.
Guest SP-1 Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 There's actually less people in the world who have heard ANYTHING about Jesus than you would think.
Guest Mole Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 There's actually less people in the world who have heard ANYTHING about Jesus than you would think. Even though Christianity is the most popular religion?
Guest SP-1 Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 (edited) I'm not even totally sure it's the most "popular". It seems like it here in the United States because we have alot of churches and programming on TV and radio and whatknot. We could be, but I'm still hesitant to make that claim. I know a few organizations operate within the a window (denoting an area of coordinates) because there's hardly any Christian teaching there. Edited April 28, 2003 by SpiderPoet
Guest Mole Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 I'm not even totally sure it's the most "popular". It seems like it here in the United States because we have alot of churches and programming on TV and radio and whatknot. We could be, but I'm still hesitant to make that claim. I know a few organizations operate within the "10-40" window (denoting an area of coordinates) because there's hardly any Christian teaching there. I should rephrase that, and say that Christianity is the most practiced religion in the world.
Guest SP-1 Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 I wouldn't make that claim either. I think Hinduism has the title. Though I could be very wrong on that.
Guest Mole Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 I got this from a website: Christianity - "Almost two billion Christians live on every continent. They comprise the majority of people living in the United States and Canada (86%), Latin America (92%), Europe (76%) and Australia (85%). Christianity is also the most prevalent faith in Africa (48%). Christianity is a dominant force on every continent but Asia (9%). Most of the world's population is in Asia, so only one-third of the world's population is Christian." Judaism - "Most Jews live in the United States (5.8 million) and Israel (4.8 million). Europe was once home to millions of Jewish people, but most of the survivors of the Holocaust immigrated to other nations. Today only 2.3 million Jewish people remain in Europe." Islam - "There are more than one billion Muslims, but only five million live in the United States. Nations with large Muslim populations include Indonesia (180 million), Pakistan (125 million), Bangladesh (109 million), India (84 million), Iran (66 million), Egypt (60 million), Turkey (60 million, Nigeria (52 million), Algeria, Morocco (29 million), Ethiopia (24 million), Sudan (22 million), Afghanistan (22 million), Iraq (20 million) and Saudi Arabia (19 million). Russia also has a huge Muslim population, but estimates on its size vary." From the looks of that, Christians are in great numbers.
Guest SP-1 Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 A third still isn't dominant. I'd like to see the numbers for Buddhism and Hinduism, considering they're prominent in Asia (I think).
Guest Memphis Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 I'd say either Michael Jackson or Elvis Presley. EVERYONE knows who they are, despite religion, race, country or culture. M
Guest MaxPower27 Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 Buddhism is the world's largest religion.
Guest Mole Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 I can't find anything about Budist, but you guys might be right about that. Seeing how Asia is most of the world's population, that that is probably the case.
Guest SP-1 Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 Robin Hood Nah. Maybe between the UK and the US but I doubt the folk tales are well known aside from that.
Your Paragon of Virtue Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 I'd say Einstein or Hitler. (Insert joke here)
MooreMark Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 It may aswell be Jesus or Esa as the Islamic Religion refers to him as. How bout George Bush?
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 Buddha Marilyn Monroe is probably more known than Jesus. She is a consumerism icon, selling westernism just like Coke or Mc D's. Also i don't think Christianity is as prevelent as the numbers that molestomp gave suggest. Just because you're listed as christian on a survey, it doen't mean you practice the faith or even believe in God. Atheism is probably the most popular religion in the Americanised world. George W: maybe he's invading everywhere on the world to make sure everyon knows his name.
Guest Banky Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 I'd say Einstein or Hitler. (Insert joke here) Einstein.

I kinda doubt that. I think apathy is more popular.
