Guest Downhome Report post Posted April 29, 2003 The man you all want to see, you know it's true. Now, from 1wrestling as usual... It appears that Rico may be getting a new gimmick soon, and that he could be branched off from 3 Minute Warning into a singles role. To be honest, I think Rico is long overdue for a singles role, and a more serious gimmick. While he has made an interesting character as a manager, he has only been given a handful of opportunities to show what he can do in the ring. He has a lot of potential. ...doesn't this just make your day? I'm actually quite serious, I love this guy and really enjoy his work I've seen so far. He's over like hell as a heel, and he's quit interesting. Oh well, at least I'm pleased. Sincerely, ...Downhome...

Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2003 Booya! As long as it isn't unbearably stupid, Rico getting a new gimmick and solid push would rule.
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted April 29, 2003 Right. FINALLY!! He was a riot cop, an American Gladiator, and he's got martial arts ability--it ain't going to be hard to come up with a good new persona. Holy crap...a pretty good Raw, a Rico push... Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Big Show's push getting killed... Good news left and right! WHOOO!
rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2003 I could see him being pushed as 1950's man with the sideburns............ I just hope he keeps the kick-ass music
Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted April 29, 2003 Its going to take quite a bit for fans to forget being Chuckabilly's and 3MW's lackey. I like him though. When he did the spinkick that Goldberg blocked, I was in awe of how sweet it would have been if it had connected.

Guest notJames Report post Posted April 29, 2003 Hmmm… New gimmick, new push, still employed by the same dimwitted monkeys… I'm going to withhold my exhultation until I actually see some good come out of this. However, anything that gets Rico away from Tony Rocky Horror x2 is good news indeed.

Without him, they'd get almost no heat at all. Oh well, not like they aren't jobbers already.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2003 Andrew, have I mentioned that that is the hottest pic of Gail Kim you've used in your signiature yet? There needs to be better Flock Alexis pictures on TNA so I can compete.

Guest crandamaniac Report post Posted April 29, 2003 Why don't they keep his gimmick the way it is, in that same kind of vein that Rick "The Model" Martel had, but just push him up the card. That'd be interesting, and I think with the right story he could get over.

Maybe not a new "gimmick" is really that needed, but as he is he's the gay hairdresser that hangs around with two fat Samoans. Surely there is room for improvement there. Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Report post Posted April 29, 2003 I really don't see Rico ever being anymore then a upper mid card talent. His mic skills and lack of acting ability are what's holding him back the most.

Guest evilhomer Report post Posted April 29, 2003 I don't see them giving him a complete overhaul and coming out as the new Stone Cold Whup-ass machine. I think he'll keep his basic character, just minus the homosexual overtones, entering lingerie contests, and the other ridiculous shit he endured. Let him be the same stylish prick he is now, but allow him to show off his abilities to back it up. Anyone know the reason for his apparent de-push? The last singles match I remember him in was when he beat Flair on Raw. It's an old Flair, and it was a tainted win, but he still beat Ric Fucking Flair. After that match I don't remember seeing him in any more singles matches, just the occasional entry as the third man in.

Guest notJames Report post Posted April 29, 2003 I think Rico's mic skills and acting talent are fine. It's hard to portray the stereotypical effeminate/gay man and have it come off as anything but a caricature. And I'm sure getting input from the monkeys that write RAW don't exactly inspire him to greatness, either. The fact that he maintains such great heel heat despite his de-push and saddling with Fat and Fatter is a testament to his abilities. If anything, Rico's age is probably the biggest factor keeping him from reaching the next level.
Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Report post Posted April 29, 2003 Rosi and Jamal are getting shafted alot harder then Rico. At least they are entertaining in the ring, unlike some of the tag teams we have had lately. I can't understand why they don't leave Rico where he is and give 3MW a push. Rico has great charisma, which translates into mic skils(whenever given the stick). Hes proven his acting skills on a regular basis. His drawback is his slightly advanced age. Hes not a Hogan or Piper (Rico can actually work) so for him, the age is a problem. But hes no Kevin Nash.

Charisma doesn't always translate into good mic skills. Rico sounds like he's reading cue cards whenever he's on the mic, but he has charisma. But you are right about one thing though, he is no Nash, master of the mic!

LooseCannon25 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2003 I think Rico is a good actor.....he's got charisma and is pretty good on the mic IMO. For the gay wedding ceremony i think he was great, especially that evil smirk he had when Bischoff said "3 minutes". He could be a good uppercarder or midcarder with the right gimmick.
