Guest El Psycho Diablo Report post Posted May 4, 2003 It may just be me, but Cyclops isn't really that interesting. Kinda bland.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted May 4, 2003 If the X-Men were the Ninja Turtles, Cyclops would be Leonardo: i.e., the one most likely to bore the piss out of me. Even in the comics, they never really wrote his character nearly as well as many of the others. Hell, even also-rans like Gambit and Sabretooth had more interesting storylines. Scott was always just portrayed as the prickish-but-solid leader guy, without a whole lot of subtle details filling in the cracks.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted May 4, 2003 That's my problem with him though. There's so much that they could do with him to make him interesting. He's like Xavier's surrogate son and if he joined with Magneto, it could be compelling.
Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Report post Posted May 4, 2003 Well look at Chuck. His character is very interesting and has had some great storylines that have been written about him, in the books. But with Wolverine being so popular I see him always being the "main" character in the motion pictures.
Guest Karnage Report post Posted May 4, 2003 Well the actor portraying Cyclops isn't that good of an actor..
Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted May 4, 2003 OMG that movie ruled all! Yeah, Cyclops isn't that interesting of a character, but I never liked him anyways
Guest Nanks Report post Posted May 4, 2003 Some of the stuff from the comics is sounding really contrived though, I hope they don't ruin the next movie with ridiculous plots. Trying to turn the world leaders into mutants via large, spinning, swirl-design-inducing machine isn't a silly plot? Perhaps someone could post a full list of all the characters and their mutations. That'd be cool, I'd like to put a few names to some of the faces I saw in the movie. That'd be awesome. Each mutant is interesting in their own right, and I especially seeing some of the awesome comic book drawings of them. Genetic mutation via electromagnetic wave is not as far fetched as anything involving space travel or cosmic entities or whatever happens in the comics. I'll clarify what I was asking for as far as descriptions of the mutants. Spoiler (Highlight to Read): I want to know who all the kids in the mansion were during the incursion scene, like the chick who goes through walls and stuff and the kid who was changing channels by blinking and the dude who turned into metal when they shot at him. I assume that guy is another one of Stryker's constructions.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted May 4, 2003 Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Girl who went through walls: Kitty Pryde. Before the Fox cartoon, she was the equal to Jubilee in terms of character (although Kitty had a better one). Guy who turned into metal: Colossus. He's Russian. I don't know who the kid with the blinking eyes was. For all your mutant needs I recommend Children of the Atom. Some bios are old, but pretty much all the info there is correct. Guest KingOfOldSchool Report post Posted May 4, 2003 I'll clarify what I was asking for as far as descriptions of the mutants. I assume that guy is another one of Stryker's constructions. Again, I emphasize that I haven't seen it yet. Spoiler (Highlight to Read): The chick who goes though walls is Kitty Pryde aka Shadowcat. I forget exactly how she came to be with the X-Men, but at the time she came in, she was basically the youngest mutant of the team (she was introduced into the comics in the 80s). She has the power to turn intangible, and she can also float or glide in mid-air. After the X-Men, she moved onto the pages of the New Mutants, which featured younger mutants in attempts to harness their powers. And after that she went to the pages of Excalibur, an England based offshoot, before returning to the X-Men team. I don't know about the second... Considering the way he was changing the channels though, chances are that kid has some kind of telekinesis power i.e. the ability to move objects with your mind. I'm having a hard time recalling though. The guy who turns into metal is Colossus aka Peter Rasputin. He made his debut in the mid-70s alongside a batch of new recruits, which also included Storm, Wolverine and Nightcrawler. The new recruits were picked by Xavier when the original X-Men (Iceman, Cyclops, Jean, Beast, Angel) needed assistance. During his time with the X-Men, his sister Illyana died of a contractable virus harmful to mostly mutants, which spurred him to join up with a Magneto led group called the Acolytes. He deserted the Acolytes, and sufaced again in Excalibur, which also featured Shadowcat and Nightcrawler. After Excalibur disbanded, he, Nightcrawler and 'Cat went back to the X-Men. Recently, from what I've read of news bits since I wasn't reading comics at the time, he sacrificed himself to cure the same virus which killed his sister. Guest Nanks Report post Posted May 4, 2003 Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Well, Collossus sure wasn't Russian in the movie. He had a line, he's being portrayed as American. Surely he's the same as Wolverine with the metal implants, having a retractable metal body seems like a bit much as a mutation. You'd think Magneto would just own him, like he does with Wolvie. Looks like he and Shadowcat will be featured in the next movie seeing as they were highlighted in this one.

Guest Flyboy Report post Posted May 4, 2003 All you need to know about Colossus (fuck it... I don't think it's a spoiler -- he's been shown in the commercials): Colossus is a mutant with the superhuman ability to convert the tissue of his entire body into an organic steel-like substance, granting him superhuman strength and a high degree of resistance to bodily harm. This substance, resembling organic steel, is of unknown composition but appears to be analogous to osmium and to carbon steel. He is able to transform into this armor-like state at will (the process is virtually instantaneous) and remain in that form for an as yet undetermined amount of time. (The longest time he has remained in armored form so far has been five days). Once in his armored form he remains so until he consciously wills himself back to normal. If he is rendered unconscious, however, he spontaneously reverts to his normal form. While in his armored state, Colossus possesses the same degree of mobility that he does in his normal form. The process by which Colossus transforms himself to armored form and back (including his gain of additional mass from an unknown, perhaps extra-dimensional, force) remains unknown. Colossus cannot become partially or selectively armored; his body is either entirely converted or not. Even his eyes become steel-like; his eyeballs can withstand and deflect the impact of a .45 caliber bullet. In his armored form Colossus is highly resistant to most forms of bodily harm. His armor is capable of withstanding ballistic penetration, including that of a 110 millimeter Howitzer shell. He could survive a collision with a loaded, one-ton flatbed truck at 100 miles per hour or an explosion of 450 pounds of TNT. He can survive extremes of temperature from 70 degrees above absolute zero (-390 degrees Fahrenheit) to approximately 9000 Fahrenheit. However, it is theorized that above the latter temperature, his armored form would begin to melt. Colossus's armored form cannot rust under normal Earth conditions. Colossus is in unusually fine physical health, permitting the transition back and forth from his normal organic flesh state to his armored form to occur with minimal stress on his system. His normal lungs are capable of holding his breath for 3.6 minutes. In the past he has exhibited a minimal or nonexistent need to breathe while in his armored state. However, it is believed that he could not survive for long in a vacuum. His endurance and speed are somewhat greater in his armored form.

Looks like he and Shadowcat will be featured in the next movie seeing as they were highlighted in this one. That really is Colossus's power, no implants or anything. It's not a retractable device like Wolverine has. Colossus simply has the ability to turn his skin into organic metal and back again. And with that power comes indestructibility, and increased strength. And besides, in a world where these kind of mutations are actually happening, I don't think any mutation is far-fetched. I don't even recall it ever happening, but yes, Magneto could own him easily. As far as Wolverine and Magneto goes in the comics, Magneto once ripped his adamantium out through his pores, and it was truly one of the more 'holy shit' moments in comic history. And about Shadowcat and Colossus, there's one more thing to add. Although they won't necessarily do it in the movie, they did pursue a relationship... So that's another bit of background for you. Edit: Flyboy got it...

Guest starvenger Report post Posted May 4, 2003 Spoiler (Highlight to Read): I don't know who the kid with the blinking eyes was. I know the answer to that one. It's Spoiler (Highlight to Read): Bryan Singer's poke at Harry Potter Great movie. I loved the "easter egg" type things they threw in there for comic and cartoon x-fans. Now, I can't wait for X3, XXX or whatever they decide to call it, hopefully with someone new as Storm instead of the phoning-it-in Halle Berry...

Guest Sakura Report post Posted May 4, 2003 Colossus and Shadowcat are in X1 too. Siren was another cameo. She was screamining in the bed during the mansion invasion. Multiple Man's name is on the same computer as Gambit's.

Guest Sakura Report post Posted May 4, 2003 It's in the scene when Prof X explains the school to Logan. I think he is sitting down drawing but I could be wrong. I am not sure exactly where it is in that scene. It's shown in the X-Men 1.5 DVD commentary.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted May 5, 2003 Some thoughts: Excellent, better than the first. I won't get into the "Jean Grey Saga" because we know wheres it's going. X3: Pyro / Iceman confrontation. Well, that's what it's leading to. Bigger roles for Aaron Stanford and Shawn Ashmore. Get rid of James Marsden, NOW! I think that a better actor can be found for the role of Cyclops. And last but not least... YOU SHOULD ALL BOW DOWN AND WORSHIP THE GROUND THAT ALAN CUMMING WALKS ON! Guest eiker_ir Report post Posted May 5, 2003 i don't know why u say that they can find a better actor for Cyclops, when he barely had a chance to do anything in the movie (X2), to me he was pretty good in the first one. Halle Berry on the other hand, i don't liek her for Storm, he delivers her lines in a really weird way...

Guest art_vandelay Report post Posted May 5, 2003 Colossus and Shadowcat are in X1 too. i didn't see Colossus in X1 He wasn't in his armored form, but I remember seeing a big, muscular kid with a black crew cut that looked exactly the same as X2's Colossus in the mansion. Uncanny X-Men.. a series called "Eve of Destruction" (I own all of them). It fucking rocks... soon after the entire Uncanny series went downhill. I quit reading after Onslaught #1, how did Wolvie get his adamantium back? And how are the "bone" claws explained? If they're bone, were they still implanted into him during Weapon X, or was he born with them as a part of his mutation?
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted May 5, 2003 I will second the "idolize Alan" group. Although more religious than I thought he would be (never read the comics, so not totally sure where all that comes from) Nightcrawler kicked ass in the opening scene and in the general sense. Also, that Colossus kid is farkin' HUGE! His bio on IMDB says he's 6'8", and I believe it. I don't remember any Russian accent though. Would have been nice to see him and Wolverine tear through the troops, but hopefully we'll see more of him in the next one.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted May 5, 2003 I just saw the movie. It was great. A very good sequel to a good original movie. One question I have though is. For X:3 are they skipping the regular Phoenix saga and going straight to the DARK PHOENIX saga, or are they going to try to pull both off in one single movie?
Guest art_vandelay Report post Posted May 5, 2003 Well since it's Monday, I'm not going to bother with the spoiler tags until otherwise requested. Clues to how the Phoenix Saga will unveil in the next movie: In X2, Jean said she wasn't feeling like herself ever since she used Cerebro in X1. Remember, Cyclops said she couldn't even telekinetically lift a chair without concentrating really hard. Could this imply that the Phoenix powers were within her all along, and somehow her encounter with Cerebro in X1 unlocked them?
