Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted May 7, 2003 You know, I didn't watch this, and I won't, but I know for a fact that I'm going to get the new album forced on me at some point in a car or at work..I've accepted this. My only hope is that it can combine the fact that they're completely washed up and old with the fact that they suck, and transcend into comedy.
Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted May 7, 2003 The performances weren't as bad as I was expecting. But, that's not saying much. Besides Metallica at the end of the show, I thought Korn was the best. I thought the "Story of Metallica" was cheap, too short, skipped around too much, and left a lot of things out. Behind the Music did a much better job. Guest Plushy Al Logan Report post Posted May 7, 2003 My cable got turned back on, yipee! Whoever did "Nothing Else Matters" (I wasn't paying attention): I've heard better. Avril: Give me Fuel! Give me Fire! Give that which zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz huh oh yeah. Am I the only person who thinks Dr. Frankenstein should "study" her "qualities" to find a cure for insomnia. Korn: This Korn didn't taste like creamed crap as I expected. Snoop Dogg: Keep this man away from microphones at all times. Jim Bruer: Good, but I do a better impression of James. Dogshit Bizkit: Is it me, or was Fred Durst doing Angus Young's dance? I booed the fuck out of them. The highlight of the night was when Kirk making weird faces at them, I assume he was telepathically asking Durst if Metalica sounds that horrible. The Story: Does anyone besides Metallica biographrers know who Cliff and Dave are, Lars certainly doesent. The footage and format reminded me of the E! True Hollywood Story. Metallica: Only good part in the show, James appeared to be having a Heart attack.

Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2003 I didn't care much for Durst's rendition of Sanitarium at all. A point, people... Tallica upset a lot of people with Load and Re-Load, so rightfully they skipped over those albums... I thought it was a very nice touch for Jason to tell his side of the story, as well as the band being honest about some of the reason why Jason had to leave. Heh, the medley started out good, I marked out when they did Hit the Lights.... is it me or were they trying to prove something by playing a good number of their faster tunes? They ain't 18 no more, playing that fast at 40 is HARD. About the new album, they have a LOT to prove with this one, thus they went back to the Kill Em All/Lightning days, with a little bit of the other albums mixed in.... I was surprised that they picked Rob Trujillo for bass, though consider his work with Ozzy, it makes a litle sense.... not the question is, will they let Rob be Rob, or try and stick him in a little box like they did Jason? I guess we'll find out in June.

B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2003 I thought Lewis was ok. I think he's got a great voice. What wsa so surprising about Trujiilo being named replacement? He can play some metal. Remember Suicidal Tendencies?
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted May 7, 2003 It looked like someone just woke up Jason for his interviews It was hilarious to see everyone in the band kind of sitting there with a polite smile on their face when Avril was playing, and then they pan over to Lars and he has a huge grin on his face and is going crazy doing all the drumming and everything. That was the true highlight of the show.

B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2003 Oh man. that shit with Hammet was hilarious. Lowlight of the night was EVER TIME LARS SPOKE. He and Durst should never be allowed to speak. EVER.

Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted May 7, 2003 Jason Newsted seemed to have a very positive attitude about Metallica and Metallica's future on the Icon show, which is a huge contrast to when he BLASTED them a few weeks ago, regarding the Summer Sanitarium tour, Lars, and a few other subjects. It is nice that Kirk Hammet made faces at Durst and co. but he is going to be doing that all summer because Limpbizkit is on the fucking tour with metallica. When they were going one by one to the fans onstage for one word to describe metallica, I was so hoping someone would just be a prick and say: SLAYER I know this was Metallica's night and all, but what pissed me off the most about it was MTV tried to rewrite history and claim Metallica was THE alternative to glam, like they were the ONLY ones to defy glam rock, which is pretty much bullshit. Also, I don't think I have ever once heard Metallica acknowledge another band as being their equal or just other bands that kickass as well. Oh and James Hetfield remains the most OVERRATED front man in the metal genre.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted May 7, 2003 Oh and James Hetfield remains the most OVERRATED front man in the metal genre. As much as I have loved Metallica throughout the years, Hetfield is overrated. But his work as a rhythm man is second to none. Most overrated frontman is Glen Danzig. I mean I love all his music, but there's something about that little midget that gets to me. **prepares for flaming**

Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted May 7, 2003 Danzig as a front man is indeed quite awkward. Great voice, and his songs rule...but something about him IS awkward. Underrated frontman? Michale Graves. Guy has a voice just about equal to Danzig's, IMO, and the songs he's written by himself have been better than a lot of Danzig's stuff (once again, IMO). Only reason he gets shit is because he replaced Danzig in The Misfits. 34 days...
Guest Reservoir_Kitty Report post Posted May 7, 2003 Michale Graves has a killer voice. I'm actually rather depressed that he wasn't in the Misfits when I saw them last October. As for the Metalli-bullshit, man, fuck MTV. I weep because I missed Metallica when they were in their prime. Curse my young age. Everyone that butchered - sorry, COVERED - Metallica sucked balls and I hope they rot in hell. Forever. That being said, the new Metallica song sounds... promising. We'll have to wait and see. Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted May 7, 2003 I have had the oppurtunity to see Metallica five times since 1994, however I refuse to do it. Everyone says they are a great live band and they play the"old stuff" however I can't bring myself to give any money to them anymore. It sucks I was so young when I actually liked their product. Guest Choken One Report post Posted May 8, 2003 Just Go. It's a measly 45 bucks for Three hours of great live action and you WILL get your bang for you bucks.
Guest Reservoir_Kitty Report post Posted May 8, 2003 Metallica is very, very good live. I saw them in '97 - it was my first concert. Very memorable, especially the yuppie retards that looked at each other confused when Metallica played "One". "This must be a new song, I didn't hear it on Load!" There was almost death in the aisles, but I restrained myself beautifully. I can't see spending all this money to see them on their summer tour, though. I don't want to see most (any?) of their opening acts, and I think I'd just rather remember them how they were in '97. That was a perfect concert moment for me, and I think I'd like to preserve it, rather than shatter it with reality of how it is today.

They ain't 18 no more, playing that fast at 40 is HARD. actually, most bands get better as musicians as time goes by (well, good musicians, anyways) so they shouldn't have a problem playing these songs they've played for 20 years now. I think a fact everyone is looking over is that although the covers were shit, Metallica themselves had to restart both times they performed... thats not a good sign. Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted May 8, 2003 Metallica sucks dog shit live but thats probably because I'm not into guys just standing there and making "metal faces" for an hour and a half. Newsted at least brought some energy to the line up, energy which was completely gone on the MTV thing. Nice of them to butcher their own song, I have never heard a more pussed out version of Creeping Death. Honestly, how do you make that thing sound weak? Amazing. Guest Reservoir_Kitty Report post Posted May 10, 2003 I'm 19, and I was into Metallica before their prime. What I meant was I would've loved to have seen them in concert in their prime years... with Cliff Burton on bass. As much as I liked Newsted (come back, asshole!!) Cliff was simply the man. I've liked Metallica for some time now, I just wish I could've seen that concert lineup. I've heard such wonderful stories about it from people who have. *sigh*
Guest Doyo Report post Posted May 11, 2003 OK, I caught the replay of this today. Personally, I thought Durst's vocals on "Sanitarium" were pathetic. The guy can't really sing, but any crowd booing was not noticable and a lot of people seemed into their performance. The Hammett facial expression thing has been way overhyped. He had kinda a grunt look but he was also bobbing his head up and down like he was into it. Here is one thing I have not seen mentioned anywhere... Korn stopped their performance of "One" right when the guitar solo part was suppose to hit. A lot of people had praised their performance so I was perplexed at how their guitarists would pull off the solo part. I was laughing my ass off when they just suddenly stopped the song at that point.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2003 The booing was edited out and you could tell the crowd reactions were mixed and spliced. Look at all the wide shots of Limp Bizkit on stage when the crowd has their backs to the camera...no one is moving, but magically when it's just crowd shots they're moving.
