Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted May 8, 2003 # There is talk that WWE may send Nathan Jones to OVW following his match at Judgment Day. It's been widely documented that officials are extremely disappointed with Jones's performances thus far and feel he needs a lot of work before he can work a match on his own. # Those who have witnessed La Resistance (Sylvan Grenier & Rene Dupree) in action before appearing on WWE television feel that the company may have rushed their debut. The general consensus is that Dupree, although very green, is the more ready of the two in terms of his in-ring skills. Grenier, on the other hand, is said to look terrible in the ring and wasn't even good enough to wrestle on television while working for OVW. (Thanks to The Wrestling Observer) This is probably been reported on here earlier but I want to make a point of the Similarities of the WWE and WCW in the late 1999-2000 WCW under the strain of the Product becoming so Stale it started growing mold, the Powers that be decided to empty the Green Unready talent from the Power plant onto WCW TV. when you got a sudden dozen plus wrestlers making up the "Natural Born Thrillaz" With few indi greats like Mike Sanders whom himself didn't wrestle much, Christopher Daniels and Michael Modest who had tryouts but never a sustainable careers in WCW. It proved to be disaterous because despite the new young faces which counteracted the Claim by us Smarks that WCW was the place the Dinosaurs wrestlered at, the kids wasn't completely ready for TV. many of them got their contracts bought out and went to the WWF when WCW was bought. however majority of those didn't make it and were discarded. the Sean O`haires is barely TV approved now as a wrestler and he is the most advanced out of the bunch. WWE now feeling some familar tensions seem to be bringing in people whom are unready...La Resistance isn't even long term OVW wrestlers before they came onto the WWE TV recent hirees. and Nathan Jones....heh they had him in UPW before the fed was discarded as a farm source......Nathan Jones is completely useless as a wrestler...but..... JR's love of Hosses simply couldn't be abated. So we get that Slug on our TV. and Which is probably Why JR is now demoting himself from Administrative responsibilities for his bullshit favoritism anyway digress...what do you think? Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted May 8, 2003 I think the WWE developmental system on a whole sucks. They worry more about bodies and conditioning than ring work. It's about how many hip tosses and dropkicks you can throw rather than how and why you throw them. Typical WWE substancelessness. You can't learn how to be a great wrestler through that system. Guest Galactic Gigolo Report post Posted May 8, 2003 Also, the reason WCW threw all the Power Plant guys onto TV wasn't just a lack of talent. Russo (I believe) has explained it as WCW execs realizing that for all the years it had been there, the only thing the Power Plant had ever done was train a couple Worldwide jobbers, and they essentially demanded some guys to be used. Guest BoboBrazil Report post Posted May 8, 2003 The wrestlers they have on tv aren't the problem. It is the storylines and if they think otherwise they are fooling themselves.
Guest Lightning Flik Report post Posted May 8, 2003 I think the WWE will be getting a wake up call this PPV when so many people don't watch it. Cause frankly, they've screwed everything up for too long now.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted May 8, 2003 Um, the wrestlers are a problem as well. I mean, they could give Le Resistence the best gimmick in the world and they still would shit it up in the ring.

Guest Super Pissed Smark Report post Posted May 8, 2003 I think that since Vince has already bled WCW and ECW dry (without actually capitalizing on any of those wrestlers he picked-up, of course) that he's up shit creek without a paddle now without other companies to raid. TNA isn't going to be much help with the "main event" style and it looks like the best and the brightest of OVW haven't been much help. Hoping for another Rock or Angle to come out of the developmentals any time soon seems like a longshot. Of course all of this wouldn't be such a problem if they were using the guys they have now, but no one is allowed to advance over Triple-H and his cronies, so people who have no chance of succeeding must be brought in and pushed before they're even in the neighborhood of ready. J.R. being squeezed out the door is just another sign that HHH and Stephanie are taking over and want their own people in there, not Vince's.

Vince still has one resource left to tap... CELEBRITIES! YEEEAH! In a devastating slump and desperate to generate any kind of media attention for their event, the WWF courted former NFL football player Lawrence Taylor to headline WrestleMania with a real wrestler in Bam Bam Bigelow. Big-o mistake-o. Taylor looked foolish stepping into the squared circle and Bigelow even more so for participating in the sham of a match - SLAM wrestling It's going to get better! I swear! I agree, most of the wrestlers that come out of OVW are incredibly bland. It is kick, punch, armdrag, dropkick and a spinebuster every time. Watching La Resistance on RAW I felt like I was watching clones of Randy Orton and John Cena in the ring. When new guys come in they have to do something unique to give the audience a reason to care about them and with the exception of Brock none of the guys that have come up from OVW in the last 18 months have been able to do that. Cena has gotten over due to his mike work but something has to be done about this "WWE Style" cause it is taking away their wrestlers ability to be different. Guest Dynamite Kido Report post Posted May 9, 2003 I honestly think that the WWE is completely stuck on their way of training people. They think that their development program is the best that there is. The thing that gets me is that they must not realize the tremendous talent that really knows how to work on the Indy circuit these days though. I think that Ring of Honor is a fed that really proves this. There is amazing talent that I think could immediately start working for the WWE but they aren't interested because the talent didn't come from their own development program though. Very sad in my opinion............
Guest My Eyebrow is on fire Report post Posted May 9, 2003 Ted Dibiase basically said that the next generation of wrestling is going to be terrible. The future youngsters are working short matches, if at all - and having next to no practice learning workrate and how to build a match. If Grenier and Dupree got into a few 20-30 minute OVW matches a month before come up, maybe they wouldn't be so bad.

O'haire only have the kick, punch and chinlock.

Guest Goodear Report post Posted May 9, 2003 Fuck workrate, it's a retarded system that rewards bad selling. Basically Palumbo has better timing, bumping, and has better ring control than O'Haire. Sean just looks better. I wouldn't say Chuck is World Champion material or anything, but he's a servicable midcarder which is exactly where he's stationed right now. Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted May 9, 2003 This is an interesting argument and I can vouch for most of it since I live in Louisville and have seen OVW on TV. The main entertainment to be had on the show is watching old USWA rejects (Trailer Park Trash, Flash Flannagan) and some local indy talent (Nick Dinsmore, Rob Conway) rather than the green rookies WWE has stationed down here. Ironically those indy guys that are in OVW won't ever get any sort of real shot in WWE. It basically comes down to guys just not having to toil with their craft long enough. I mean if you think about it these guys are the antithesis of someone like RVD, who spent years in the indies and in ECW and basically made up a whole bunch of moves and shit. Guest Human Fly Report post Posted May 9, 2003 The thing is, is that there are guys in the developmental system who can go, but they are stuck in OVW for who knows why. Rob Conway and Nick Dinsmore are technically sound, and would make good additions to SD! I have never seen him, but Steve Bradley is supposed to be good, but we never hear anything about him coming up. Also, I know alot of people don't like him, but I feel Nova has something to offer right now. If nothing else he could wake up the crowd. Why not team him up with Kanyon and put him in the SD! Tag division. Working with Team Angle, and Los Guererros and other people that would sell their moves would get them over quickly.

Guest evilhomer Report post Posted May 9, 2003 Pushing young wrestlers too fast is the LEAST of the WWE's problem's right now. Not true, ruining the careers of their developing talent before they even start is a major problem for the WWE. Number one because it makes the current product blow chunks since their putting out wrestlers who don't have the skill and training to put on a good match. Number two because it gives the fans nothing to look forward to. Smarks can't go "what about this guy down on the farm, when he comes up it'll be great" because that guy is already here and sucking. Marks see a new face sucking in the ring and tune off because they're sick of the old faces, and the new ones aren't watchable. They're creating a situation where we go "yeah it sucks now, but look at the future, it's gonna suck twice as much" and that's the final straw for a lot of diehards. Maztinho 0 Report post Posted May 9, 2003 Out of the Power Plant group that WWE picked up Palumbo is the best of the bunch, at least he was good enough to stick around while everyone else got sent to OVW. I agree with DiBiase, that the next generation of worker isn't going to be great until someone gets a wake up call and realizes that hoss work ain't going to cut it. You can't have great wrestling like they had at the turn of the century and then go back to a 80's retro style and keep fans.

I've said time and time again that OVW does nobody any good. Brock turned out good but not great, and has had the benefit of working with great workers. He also had an amateur background so he's already solid on the mat. Cena is vastly overrated as far as ring skills. Who trained Rico? I doubt he's entirely an OVW product. I really miss Mike Sanders, the highlight of the Thrillers.
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted May 9, 2003 Now Hold Up! Sean O`Haire is far superior.....His Finisher is better than some Superkick.... um actually its only a Fireman's carry slam, BUT they call it a reverse DVD man!!! oooo he's bad Kobashi might disagree with the definition the Smackdown commentating crew calls a Reverse DVD..... OMG!!! Burning Hammer on Cole through the Table!!!!! and a Orange Crush onto Tazz for being such a Pudgy Company Man Shell of his former kick ass self. Guest kane3212321 Report post Posted May 10, 2003 Actually Human Fly, Steve Bradley got released from the developmental program for some strange reason, (I've seen him carry Orton to a **3/4 match). I have most of 2001's OVW shows and something has changed between OVW and WWE for most of the wrestlers (Less time to have matches etc, blander style). Guest Ronixis Report post Posted May 10, 2003 You think WWE is bad? NOAH's Trainees could not even do: Abdominal crunches (100 times, 2 rounds = 200) Leg-raising abdominal exercises (50 times) Back exercises (100 times, 2 rounds = 200) Arm/shoulder exercises (30 times, 10 rounds = 300) Hindu Squats (300) And you telling me OVW is bad. Looking back, HWA was real for a long time, just that The Brand never cared for it anyway.

Watching La Resistance on RAW I felt like I was watching clones of Randy Orton and John Cena in the ring. I agree 100%. I mean, their finisher was a spinebuster/chokeslam combo! That's laughably self-parodying in itself of the WWE style. Sometime last summer it occured to me that Randy Orton and John Cena were the exact same wrestler, and that was when I came to realize that maybe bringing up the developmentals wasn't such a hot idea, especially when they all look and wrestle the same way. Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted May 10, 2003 The two main problems (other than Triple H and Stephanie) in the WWE right now are the retarded "WWE Style" of working, which is being forced on wrestlers of all sizes and talents. The other problem is the garbage storytelling. I've seen two matches of Cena in OVW, and he has a very crisp and sound offense. Instead of being paranoid about injuries, let the wrestlers perform to the best of their abilities, and create a good background for the matches.
