I have approx. 15 grand to spend on a sort of graduation present... I get to choose which car/truck I want to get. I'm stumped on what to get... what would you do?

Well I dont know what your flavor is but with 15 you can go with a pretty nice Integra Type R.

I would give a suggestion but I would rather just pout that you are getting 15 grand for graduation and I certainly wont be.

Jesus! I graduated, got money from everybody I knew, and didn't get 1/15 of that!

But you could get something cool for that much money. What I don't know.

Ecto-One was an Ambulance

So don't ruin a hearse by painting it white and red.

It depends on what you'd like in a car/truck or what brand do you like best?

All of these are between 15,000 and 20,000 with most being around 18,000.

2003 Dodge Neon SRT-4

2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V

2003 Mazda 6

2003 Ford Focus SVT

2003 Acura RSX

Or save up some money and get one of these 30,000 cars

2003 Subaru WRX

2003 Mitsubitshi Lancer Evolution

For that list, buy the Neon SRT-4, rated at 223 hp and 230(around that figure) lbs. turbo charged and it'll easily hang with Evo's and WRX's, the only problem? No LSD.

Yes the SRT-4 is a great car for the price, which was around $19,000 when I looked it up. It would've been a nice car even for 30, but it's a steal for under 20.

Check the local Classified advertisements for people selling gems. Here, I could walk up to a guy that lives a few miles away with $15,000 and walk away with a mint condition 1966 GTO coupe with a rebuilt engine.

Go for an older muscle car or something (you can get a totally restored 65 Mustang convertible for about $9,000 probably from a private seller around here), then re-sell it later for more after you use the rest of your money to modify it or make it even more beautiful. Seriously, you'll be able to make 100% profit if you bide your time.

EDIT: Then take that $30,000 and get one of the cars suggested here. I'd kill for one of the new WRX's.

EDIT II: Or go on Ebay. You can get a early 90s or older Corvette for under $15,000.

Not a bad idea, just have to be sure it's really in mint condition and that it's a desirable model.

Example: Buying a mint Edsel would be a bad investment as there's probably only ten people who would even look at the car.

I never understood why everyone thinks the Edsel is so ugly. I liked it. I thought the Tucker looked good too.

I should add that my belief that you can make a 100% profit off of your $15,000 is based on the fact that a local auto dealer has gotten its hands on a 1972 Mustang convertible and is selling it for no less than $30,000.

Also, if you go along with the older car idea, use whatever's left over from that $15,000 to get a piece of shit that can get you around and insure the old car with Grundy Auto Insurance.

Another thought: If you have a job and plan to work a lot, you might want to work towards a newer domestic performance car. I mean, it'd be nice to get a Type R something or another, but the sheer rarity of them in the US makes them incredibly expensive and hard to find and all that shiz. Get a new Mustang GT or a Z28 the dealers are trying to clear out and work towards paying off the $10,000 or so you'd have left to pay on them after the initial $15,000 payment. Since you'd give so much up front, you could probably get away with a fairly low monthly payment.

The Tucker looked alright, but the Edsel just looks like shite. The beast is the frankenstien of Detriot.

This is about as good as this beast can look

Edsel-01.jpg

That front end is just horrendous and the "fins" on the rear fenders does nothing except screw up the line of the car.

Replace the entire front end and shave the rear fenders, then it's a decent looking car. Of course then it's just a fairlane.

It reminds me of the Plymouth Fury, but uglier and without the Stephen King link.

^^

That's what I was about to say. Unless you're into fucking underaged sluts, having a nice car really gets you nowhere in life.

Buy a 200 dollar honda accord - it will run for the next 3 years of your life smooth as a baby's ass, and pocket the 14,800.

Well, if it were me I'd try to find a relatively recent edition of a Blazer or a Jimmy. But that's me.

Or one of the newer Silverado's.

Put the money toward a Maxima. You won't regret it, especially if you get the SE with the six-speed manual. If you don't want a monthly payment, a lot of the cars Satanico mentioned are nice. The Sentra Spec-V is very peppy, and the Mazda 6 looks like a winner, too.

My Father brought me a Mustang for 6,000 and it was top notch...

You can do the same...

15,000 for graduating? Jesus...I got A Huge Party and 5,000 from parents and my Uncle loaned me his Condo in Myrtle Beach for the summer...

Well..I'm thinking about buying a 2003 Nissan Sentra, new intake. Nissan Motorsports header, Stillen Exhaust and an Area 51 Supercharger. should be good to nearly 200 hp from the stock 145 hp.

If you're paying thirty, go for the Nissan 350Z. (Mustang? Camero? Pussies.) It'll outrun anything in, around, or hell..over that price range.

For fifteenish, the Sentra Spec-V isn't a bad little car. I don't know about the SRT-4 Neon, but I've had a regular one for years and it's served me well. *pets car* It's time is soon, though..

Fuck that. Get something practical.

If you live somewhere where you have to drive a lot (like LA) I'd say go for a Honda Insight or the f0cus SVT. SWEEEET. The 2003 Accords are pretty nice too, in my opinion.

And WRX's I heard run about $24,000 so don't believe the hype about the $15,000. You could probably get a decent price with that $15,000 down payment. My friend went from an older used Ford Ranger to an Acura RSX to a Subaru WRX in only about 3 years and all he did was work part-time, $9/hr (I joke that the 5 cars that family has is probably worth more than their house itself..Chevy 1500S, Mercedes Benz, Acura RSX, Harley Davidson, and the Subaru WRX).

And if you live in an area where you don't have to drive much, I'd say go for practicaly and get a Kingcab Ford F150, or the new Dodge Rams.

(I hate my piece of shit 1999 Chevy Tracker more and more as this post goes on...)

Yeah, the SVT Focus is a great car for the price.

I myself, with a job finally coming my way, am getting a 1992-1996 Corvette. They're astoundingly affordable.
