Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted May 24, 2003 Hey, only slightly. If I throw a K&N in that thing and get the TORNADO GAS SAVER~, I'd be even or slightly more powerful. I've also found a 1965 GT coupe, red, with red interior for $10,000. Tomorrow will be a big car day, as I'm looking at a 1967 Charger fastback(burgundy, $6,500) also. Guest WukenBloodstar Report post Posted May 24, 2003 damn dude, you seem to have all the luck when it comes to finding good cars.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted May 24, 2003 You'd think that, but those who talk to me frequently know that my luck with cars fucking sucks. I've yet to have one that works properly for more than a three week stretch. Seriously.
Guest Cover of Darkness Report post Posted May 24, 2003 EDIT: I didn't see the 15,000 stipulation. In that case, I would probobly get a Pontiac GTO and refurbish it.

Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted May 25, 2003 Well, I went to look at that '65 Mustang GT today(guy with the Charger never answered his phone), and... ooh boy. I thought the Corvette was a mind-bending experience, this was even weirder. I felt like I'd gone 40 years into the past, and having the radio (even though it was a newer radio with a cassette player, same size as the original radio) on the oldies station compounded the feeling. Cosmetically, it's in insanely impeccable condition. Seriously, all I need is a hose and a sponge to clean the outside up (it's been in a garage for the better part of the last fifteen years), and a cleaning of the engine and I've got a show car. It's got 75,000 miles on it, and only three thousand of those are since this guy bought it fifteen years ago. It has a new radiator and mufflers (well, might as well be new with only 3,000 miles of use), and the man did $10,000 worth of cosmetic restoration to it. The 1965 GT package had one of two 289 engines, an A-code 289 putting out 225hp, and a K-code 289, also known as the Hi-Po 289, which put out 271hp. This had the A-code engine, but I have no complaints. It needed a battery to start and run, so I actually went to the nearest auto parts store and BOUGHT ONE just to test drive it. After one attempted start got some fuel in the carburetor, the second had it literally ROAR to life, actually blowing some of the dust off of it in the process. It ran very well, but put out a lot of smoke. My friend and I thought it might have been a blown head gasket, since the smoke was coming out of the exhausts as well as from under the hood. The man reassured us that it was just because it hadn't been started in seven months, and encouraged us to take it for a test drive around to prove that the smoke would go away. Sure enough, it did. The test drive itself felt wonderful, the acceleration was quick (the fastest we went was 35, but from a stop to 35 barely touching the pedal had us up to speed very quickly), the steering was tight, but the brakes were a little soft. I'll need to bleed them if I get it. Also, there's no horn. The air and heat don't work properly. Plus, the driver's seat doesn't move up. It's stuck, whereas the passenger seat will move pretty far up. This is pretty important, because I want my mother and grandmother to be able to drive this also. These things, while minor compared to the massive pros of the car, have me wanting to ask to have it for $9,000 instead of the $10,000 he wants. What an awesome day. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted May 25, 2003 You're letting your mother and grandmother drive it? Good god man are you mad. Clean the car up, fix whatever needs worked on and then sell it for a profit and be done with it. Keep the women folk away from it.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted May 25, 2003 Well, it's the only way that I'm being allowed to get a new car in the first place. That'll probably go out of the window pretty quickly though, because this will be my main mode of transportation should we get it, and that means they wouldn't really have a chance to drive it. Besides, I can always just keep forgetting to fix that seat so they can't reach the pedals.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted May 26, 2003 Turns out I can't do the forgetting thing. I took them to see it today, and they... (sigh) can reach the pedals.
Guest WukenBloodstar Report post Posted May 26, 2003 Oh har har, I say dude a lot..say..you gonna make a comment about a hippy anytime soon, that would complete the circle, it really would make me feel better. If you want the car and you have the money, but it and tell them to stay off it..in so many words. Dude.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted May 26, 2003 I think I'll just disconnect something to make them think it won't drive when they try it, then make it functional again when I drive it. Guest WukenBloodstar Report post Posted May 26, 2003 Remove the spark plus or change the firing order of them?
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted May 26, 2003 Sure, why not. Wait, then my grandmother would get me some Bosch ones or something and raise cain if they "didn't work." "THEY'VE GOT A LIFETIME WARRANTY!!! I'M GONNA LET THEM HAVE IT!!" She's... different.

Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted May 26, 2003 Mustang SVT Cobra R > Eclipse GSX All told, I'd probably rather own the latter. Air conditioning and other basic amenities are nice to have, you know? Ah, who am I kidding, to be able to smoke 98% of the cars I'd come across on the street would more than make up for the lack of an air conditioner, heat, a radio, or a backseat. Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted May 26, 2003 Well, yeah. I spent the better part of today finally reading through a musclecar book my father got me for Christmas (as opposed to just gawking at the pictures as I've been doing only), and it's just mindblowing how much what we consider fast would be totally eaten alive back then. I mean, even the full-size cars would beat a lot of the stuff today by sheer size of engine (a 427 Galaxie? Come ON~). I also found out today that the 1965 GT I'm looking to get was a CALIFORNIA CAR~! and is actually incredibly light compared to a brand new Mustang, tipping the scales at a mere 2475 pounds. The newest Mustangs are all north of the 3300 mark, I believe. This means that a horsepower gain of only 25 or so could have me beating my friend's 1994 Cobra, despite less actual power. Torque on the older GT is also greater than the new ones, with over 300lb/ft, while the newer ones are only around 290 in the non-2003 (exempted because they have a friggin' factory supercharger) Cobras.
