I voted for Leo. He was amazing in that film, he's great actor, I hope he doesn't go too teeny bopper on us.

Hanks is a close second, last time I watched Forest Gump, I cried like a little girl at the end.

I voted for Sling Blade, mainly cause I knew someone who was really like that, so I could say by comparison, "Yes, that is quite a realistic portrayal."

Norton should be on that list....his character in The Score acted like an "autistic" janitor.

But, since he isn't, I voted for Hanks, since that was basically the only movie I've seen on the list.

Ed Nortons act in...um...what the hell was the name of that Norton/Dinero movie...jesus...I really can't remember now. But Ed Norton did a damn fine job.

Oh, and John Legizamo in that King of New York movie(the one Rosie Perez's husband directed)

I voted for Cameron's bro, because he actually is retarded (which is different from autism, btw).

It's The Score....I mentioned it in the post above yours. But, hey, that's two votes for Norton and he's not even on the list!

Where the fuck is John Malkovich for his role as Lenny in "Of Mice and Men"?

Of the one's listed Leo in Gilbert Grape is the best.

Ya know, there is a huge difference between autism and retardation......they're not just synonyms for one another. Having a brother who is autistic, I take a little offense to you using the words like that.

As others have stated, autism is not retardation. Mental retardation is merely having an IQ below 80 (I believe that's the cutoff point). Autism is an actual mental disability, usually independent of the person's IQ.

As for who played the best retard/mentally disabled person in the list? Leo. In my eyes, it was a strong 3-way between Hoffman, Hanks, and Leo (which I'm sure is something Yuna would enjoy), but Leo gets the nod.

The fact that John Malkovich's blow-away performance in Of Mice and Men (the basis for the resturant conversation in Being John Malkovich) was omitted, and that Edward Norton's impression of Rain Man has been pimped to hell reveals how worthless this thread is.

I dug Mary Stuart Masterson's performance as Joon, in Benny and Joon. Very low key.

Though "Where's Artie" definitely deserves some recognition.

I didn't look at Forrest Gump as retarded, just innocent and not cynical. When he was a kid he was just below the IQ range, I'm sure as he grew up he got a lil bit smarter... I mean, he passed regular school well enough and university... In the end his conversation with Jennies grave showed that he *did* have profound insight - he just didn't care to show it off. Sure, his favourite book is Curious George, but what's wrong with that?

I was obviously speaking about the thread to the point I posted in it.
