The Old School questions thread

Recommended Posts

Bossman didn't actually leave the WWF until late 93, right before he showed up in WCW and pinned Rude in a non-title match on Saturday Night.

Was the the first show of the new WCW Saturday Night set with the automatic door and everything? I believe it was and I also think that was the first match of the show.

Thanks.

Was it just something to send Savage out a good guy, or did he just want to take some time off

Basically. Savage became somewhat of a tweener (leaning towards face) color guy beginning shortly after the PPV.

Jake had nothing to do with anything at that point.

So did he want to take time off, or was it Vince's idea to make him an announcer? I assume he then decided he wanted to come back, so they came up with the wedding and the Jake heel turn.

I'm pretty sure Savage had wear and tear to heal from...I want to say a knee injury in particular, I am not sure

I'm thinking it may have been the 2nd week of that format (or at least one of the very early ones). I remember already being annoyed with it by the time this particular episode aired.

The Bossman / Rude match went on last. They had been hyping Davey Boy Smith vs. Rude but indicated late in the broadcast that Smith may not show.

On the Monday Night War DVD they showed clips from a Juventud Guerrera vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. match that looked like it was from around '96, Rey Jr. was wearing a lime green mask and pants, I was wondering if anyone had a specific date for this match and any thoughts on how good it was. I would also like to know if there was ever a one-on-one match between Juventud Guerrera and Psychosis on Nitro or Thunder, and if so was it any good?

Alright I knew it was early with that set. I was pissed when got rid of the one they used from September 1992-December 1993 because that was. I was actually thinking about that one when I was watching the Foley DVD today.

Thanks.

How did Rikishi return to the WWF in 99? I can't remember any Video Packages for him.

I remember him just showing up on Heat for a week or two and squashing people. Then he appeared on RAW and danced with Too Cool and the rest is history.

When and how did Alex Wright turn heel and when and how did DDP turn face?

DDP became a face because he turned down the nWo and Alex Wright's heel turn was a slow one, he teamed up with a few jobbers and basically refused to tag in and then he was in a short lived stable with Eddie Guerrero and Jeff Jarrett manged by Debra which confirmed his heel status.

How did Hacksaw get aligned with the Varsity club in December of 99?

Because he wanted revenge on the Revolution, IIRC.

IIRC, The Revolution was doing something about forming their own Nation, and running down the US, which raised the ire of Hacksaw Jim Duggan.

And what was up with Saturn acting insane around this time?

Going back to an old post, when was Chavo in the Filthy Animals? I remember him in the MIA, but not a Filthy Animal.

Why did Hogan refuse to job the title to Bret Hart before he left the WWF in 1993, but instead was willing to job it to Yokozuna?

Bret was more or less unproven as WWF champion at this time. For all we, Hogan and even Vince McMahon knew he could be back on IC level a year later.

That combined with Bret being so much smaller than him made Hogan feel that Hart was not on his level.

Rumors have it that directly after the King Of The Ring match where he jobbed to Yokozuna in a true Kodak moment of justice (Bwaaaa-hahaha) Hogan asked McMahon when he was getting the title back. Vince couldn't believe it and fired Hogan on the spot.

Shortly after KotR Vince paid respect to the fallen champion by, no wait a minute. Of course he went out to bury Hogan. I remember a classic WWF Magazine article that stated that Hogan was afraid of Yokozuna. If anyone has scans of the pictures of the terrified Hogan please post them. They were hilarious.

Hogan was also referred to as "the once mighty Hulk Hogan" while clips of Yokozuna legdropping and pinning Hogan aired as part of a video montage that aired on WWFs TV shows hyping Yoko's reign of terror. Somehow the evil photographer was excluded from that video so it looked like a clean win. Probably just poor editing.

DDP became a face because he turned down the nWo

That cemented it. He had been getting Stone Cold-like pops for several months prior.
