My grandmother is a smoker and I thought it made you smell nasty. I tried smoking weed, and although it was fun at the time, it isn't for me. And I have no desire to try any other drug. Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted May 27, 2003 I used to not get the appeal, but all it took was a few times getting drunk, and high, and drunk and high (which doesn't really do much more than either separately, but solely for the looks people give you that's an experience right there...). I'm a good drunk. Not belligerent or anything like that. My tongue flows freely, but in a cute way, and I always make sure to drink responsibly (have a few glasses of water in-between) and I never get hang-overs (from drinking at least; the first time I took a shitload of bong hits I woke up the next morning feeling sick half the day). It just feels good... the way everything blurs and flows so freely and nicely (despite the humorous irony in the fact that it's totally the opposite... I laugh out loud at my drunken attempts at typing papers). It's just something I do for fun. I never buy the stuff, but if it's around, why not? It's like asking someone why they enjoy video games or reading or any other hobby. EDIT: Short amendment, the only reason I don't get messed up like every night is because it drastically lowers my attention span. Even more than it already is. That and my girlfriend doesn't like it very much, and even though she puts up with it, I respect her for abstaining and not approving so try not to subject her to it. River City Rocker 0 Report post Posted May 27, 2003 I don't do anything like that. Yet, I'm still a fixture at several bars on Friday night during karaoke time. Fortunately, the ownership understands why I don't touch the stuff and they leave me alone. My aversion to booze, pot and cigarettes started somewhere in high school, where I would hear about wild weekend drinking and sex parties, and I would find myself disturbed beyond reason (Even as an adult, I cannot explain why I used to think this way). And since I was so unpopular through school, I would only view social drinking and marijuana use as something only the "popular" kids did. Since I wasn't popular, why would I want to do anything that they did almost every weekend? I think I've mellowed out since then, but as a 26 year old, I still don't see why anyone would want to drink themselves stupid, when they can't see, walk, or even think straight. However I used to be very involved in the drinking scene where i Drink a 26er to myself everyday, not the best time in my life. I've since stopped because I find that alcohol will only complicate matters despite there disappearnece for a few hours. Drugs on the other are my crutch... I smoke appx a quarter a day on weed which is way to much but I've built up a tolerance to it so much that i find myself rolling a joint or packing a pipe right after I've just gotten high. I just prefer to be constantly high as it takes the edge off of everything.. I tend to be to uppity about things but when i'm high i'm much more mellow and sedated. And to the creator of this thread not all pot heads are losers that can't do anything our motivation might need a kickstart but just because you don't partake in a particular act doesn't necassarily make your point of view correct. I've smoked since I was 12-13, and Have done a number of drugs and still smoke weed all the time. Weed is awesome, it's great for me. As for me, there's usually more interesting shit going on in my head than there ever is in the outside world and, short of meditation (which I don't have the patience for) and sense-dep (which I don't have the equipment for), drugs are a suitable way in. Or, at least they make my immediate surroundings in the outside world a lot more interesting. As a bonus, the weed helps cut that faint but constant nauseous feeling that comes with way too much coffee. As for alcohol, it makes pointless social interaction tolerable (functions involving the extended family, for example, are only tolerable when completely slanted), and already-enjoyable social interaction better, because you add the great feeling of drunkenness. Also, large quantities of bourbon give me karate powers, which my friends seem to find incredibly entertaining. It's not always just about me, man. I smoked cigarettes for a total of about two weeks in grade eleven, but with them, the risk-reward ratio is kind of off for me. For the damage they do, I want a better buzz. Also, smoking would really cut into my weed money. So, in short, I do it to shock the squares. The goddamn squares. I only do drugs when I'm around my friends, I only drink when I'm around my friends, but I smoke all the time. I started out just smoking with my friends, but it soon became an addiction. I'm nearly up to a pack a day now, and I just turned 17. If anyone is thinking about smoking, I reccomend that you stop thinking about it. I have trouble climbing the stairs at work and this past weekend when we went camping, I had trouble hiking for long periods of time. It's not good. But beer is good. There are plenty out there who can handle drugs responsibly, just like there are plenty who fiend out and go useless. It's basically the "holding your liquor" concept, in that there isn't a universal. In any case, even with, say, legally prescribed medication like painkillers or antidepressants, it all comes down to changing neurochemicals around. Some people can still function (or even improve - it's probably a coincidence, but my grades have increased in proportion to my drug consumption), some can't. But I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss "everyone who does drugs other than alcohol" out of hand. Just saying. Shit...you'd think I was on Yahooka here. Haven't done it since February. Errr, end of February, pretty much almost March, ANYWAYS... I never really let that get ahold of me in the long run but a lot of people can't handle it. Right nowadays, and after I quit the meth, pot became a wonderful way of dealing with things at the end of my day. Many a good dream and meal has been had due to this wonderful drug. And most of my posts here are at the end of my day, so many times I post here high as well. Makes dealing with some of the more assholish people here easier, and makes me think when I'm posting. I very rarely, if ever, drink at home. I've never done drugs, nor do they interest me. Cigarettes I shy away from as well. Nonsmokers' mouths taste absolutely horrid. Give me a nice rich nicotine residue any day: if you don't smoke, you're disgusting and vile, not to mention uncivilised and uncultured, a complete loser and a moron to boot. There's nothing sexier than a lit cigarette, the smouldering cherry at the tip, wisps of ethereal bluish smoke drifting from fuck-me-red lips, deep green eyes behind a mysterious haze. Mmm. Whole cases of them. 30 Cartons to a case. Of course should I tamper with said cigarettes, I'd be castrated by the authorities, and get fired. Still, I bring home a handsome wage which affords me accomodations at home, and 87 octane fuel for my sporty 1989 (or maybe 90) Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight. I am forced to then buy my cigarettes, which I literally hold in my hands in vast quantities from 9 PM to 5:30 AM every day. Yes, it's the active lifestyle for me, as I enjoy intense resting in front of the computer, rides in the country, and slumming about with my shiftless friends. I think you are special.
