Worst catchphrases, 1998-2003

"I'm the DFG, I do what I please. You want some? Come get some. You don't like me? Bite me." -- Rick Steiner [full length album version]

"Oh, you didn't know? Your ass better call somebody!" -- Road Dogg. Why is this on here? Because catchphrases lead to fan participation. Fan participation leads to face turns. Face turns lead to the ruination of great heel tag teams. The New Age Outlaws WERE a great heel tag team in late 97 and early 98, both Old School and modern concurrently. They were great. Then they joined DX. And started the catchphrase crap. And then they were doomed to be stale and boring a detriment to the tag team division that it has STILL yet to recover from (though this didn't sink the division alone, of course). Fortunately, I have purged from my memory the extention that evolved from this line, the spiel Road Dogg would do for two minutes in the ring before the match. But man I hated it.

"The Power Of The Punch." -- William Regal. I loved the old school cheating gimmick, but hearing a character that was SUPPOSED TO BE a sophisticated English gentlemen saying something as retardoriffic as "power of the punch" seriously was just BAD.

Justin Credible's was Super Lame, of course, but it wasn't half as lame as the fact that he was ECW World Champion at the time, too.

"You're Next!" -- Bill Goldberg. Dumb. Next! [hehehehe]

And lest we forget... Diamond Dallas Page working "Scum" into the name of his opponents. Hollywood Scum Hogan, Bret The Hitscum Hart.... yeesh...

"This is for all the women who want to be me, and all the men who want me." -- Sable. Actually, by itself this isn't so bad, it's just that Sable had (and has) such HORRIBLE delivery. I mean, Rick Rude made this same basic phrase work (genders reversed, obviously) in the 80's didn't he?

"Booger Red" - Not a catchphrase, but stupid nonetheless.

What does that mean btw?

Uh, he picks his nose until it bleeds?

Oh, wait...I remember hearing what it was about. It has something to do with a cattle roper, I think.

It is a tough cowboy rodeo rider....

I would pay a month's salary to see deadtired man limping compete in a REAL rodeo....

Rikishi-I did it for da Rock!

Not a catchphrase, but the beginning of the end of my enjoyment of the product.

"What?!", "Ruthless Agression", and ever worse "Toothless Agression" are the worst ones, imo.

IM IN THE ZONE!!!!!-Ken Sca..Shamrock

Not as bad as "It's Knuckle Up Time" and "Get Out of My Way." More winners from Kenny.

"I am the Game..."

"What?"

"Stand back, there's a Hurricane coming through..."

"I'd rather be in Chyna" or w/e they said...

"The Hip-Hop Hippo..." yeah...

"3 minutes..."

"How do you like me now?"

And anything about "Backing that ass up..."

Other attempts by DDP to be witty: "EinSteiner" (for Scott Steiner) and "'Take" (instead of 'Taker, aka Undertaker).

Sable's line was actually: "This is for all the women who want to be me, and all the men, who COOOOOOOME to see me! Are you boys ready for The Grind?"

If you want a bad catchphrase, Billy Gunn's "the one".

Wrestler nicknames aren't catchphrases. Maybe in some cases, but not here!

Actually, it was his catchphrase. I remember because during his feud with Benoit he said, "You're looking for a worthy contender? Well I'm the one!"

"Oh, you didn't know? Your ass better call somebody!" -- Road Dogg.

That phrase annoyed me at first, only because it SHOULD BE "You'd better ask somebody" instead of "You'd better call somebody." But it got over so...eh.

"The Supreme Court of gutchecks" - Another blowjob nickname thought of by JR for HHH.

Holy fuck, that's homosexual.

My favourite is easily Sid Vicious.

Back on Nitro, either towards the end of 1999 or early 2000, Sid came out and delivered a promo. After saying whatever it was he was out to say, Mr. Vicious boldly asks the crowd...

'Gimmie a hell yeah!'

Ahem....

"Stand back, there's a Hurricane coming through..."

You have GOT to be kidding me.

Yeah that one is okay, his usage of the term "Beeoch" needs to stop tho.

It's horribly unfunny and should been put to rest with the other 1996 MTV trying to be down words.

His 'I got my Hurri-Powers BITCH!' comment owned.

I actually like the whole '3 minutes' thing, well, at least I did, especially with the wedding angle on SD! which I marked for.

I am so over 'What!?', too bad it's over.

THIS is true. The first time he used "Bitch!" it was amusing. Now it's weak. I still say Hurricane could change his character to be more of a Spider-Man type, making wisecracks but still being pretty serious, and it would get over fine...

the "WHAT?" chant is possible the worst thing to ever happen to a wrestling crowd in years!!!!! You are truly a gay ass mark if you chant this and think it is humorous....

I amuse myself by saying "WHAT?" in random languages, and then degenerate into saying stuff like "Who?". "QUE?" "NANI?" "VAS?"

And, yeah, "What?" is EVIL.
