Guest nikowwf Report post Posted May 29, 2003 Lately the PPV's have sucked big time. I cannot remember two worse shows. The problem is that the WWE has a set group of guys they want on the shows, and a lot of these are not good workers. Or the main events are not good, and they take up half the show with the 2 brands. If nothing else, we should have 4 Smackdown shows which should have more good matches than the average PPV. I'm looking at Vengeance, and if Angle is back I can't imagine the PPV having less than 4 real good matches. The Raw PPV's will also ALWAYS need to have RVD, Christian, Booker T, Chris Jericho, etc. in prominent roles. Before they were not even on the cards. It also forces them to book undercard feuds. Before, they could concentrate on 2 main angles, and throw 2 more together. (for one show) If the do that now, they'll be forced to throw matches together at random. I'm not looking forward to Bad Blood, but the Smackdown PPV has real potential. This should lead to a Summerslam which should be good too. That would be heads and shoulders above the last 2 months, where both squads were available. niko
Crimson Platypus 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2003 I agree with you actually. At first I was fairly against the PPV split, thinking that there was no way they could put on good RAW only PPVs. Hopefully this will allow WWE to build up the tag divisions also, with the extra time they will have. (will probably just be used to get HHH "over")
Guest NoSelfWorth Report post Posted May 29, 2003 The first Smackdown-only PPV is in July, and they've yet to announce it, or any matches for it. Wasn't one of the reasons for the split shows to allow for more time to build towards PPV's ?
Guest nikowwf Report post Posted May 29, 2003 The should start building next week with Angle returning. You are right, they should build more but they should NOT announce matches or anything like that. BAD BLOOD with HHH vs. Nash (snore snore) will look even worse if we knew Benoit vs. Brock was coming or something similar. Niko

Niko I wonder how often they'll be unable to announce the Smackdown-only PPV main event until after Raw-only PPV, for fear of people skipping the Raw PPV in favor of the Smackdown PPV. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted May 29, 2003 Hmm, good point. I never considered them announcing Smackdown PPV's before Raw PPV's, but when you think about it - it makes sense. So of course the WWE won't do it. I like 2 month builds and I like the fact that it will force the company to push new guys to fill up the other half of the card. Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2003 If they lower the price at least five bucks, I'll order frequently just to see guys like Nowinski and Spanky on PPV. If not, it'll be harder for them to get my money for these things.
JasonX 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2003 I like the fact that it will force the company to push new guys to fill up the other half of the card. Forgive me for laughing in your general direction. The only thing happening with the Split is that it's given the old guard EVEN MORE ability to bury the younger guys and to prevent new guys from getting pushed by giving them their own show to monopolize/scorch earth. To say otherwise would be a bold face lie....
Guest JMTapes Report post Posted May 29, 2003 Also, they CANNOT hype Raw PPV matches on SD and vice versa. They CAN'T DO IT. Those "paid for by Raw or Smackdown" deals hyping house shows are OK, but the announcers can't say a word. -JM
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted May 29, 2003 The Avg WWE PPV has 8 matches on it. They will have to fill it up somehow.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2003 General rule: People are idiots and will get confused if they see 2 different WWE PPV's being advertised at the same time. So, what will happen (in my opinion) is mini-TV feuds during the month whatever brand isn't doing PPV with some build towards the next months show, followed by match announcements when the other brands PPV has aired. One of the things I noticed was WWE immediatley announced the main event for Bad Blood and heavily implied another 2 where normally they take a week or more to do so. I may be the minority, but after fearing I would dread it, I'm looking forward to Bad Blood. I'm normally satisfied with 2-3 good matches on an 8 match show and both Booker/Christian and Michales/Flair should be good. I have faith in Jericho to make Goldberg have a good match too. LooseCannon25 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2003 I think they'll build matches for the Smackdown PPV, but not announce any of them until Bad Blood passes by. Here is a Raw and Smackdown PPV card RAW: Triple H vs. KEvin Nash Goldberg vs. Chris Jericho Christian vs. Booker T Ric Flair vs. Shawn Michaels La Resistance vs. RVD/Kane Scott Steiner vs. Test Jazz vs. Victoria Hurricane vs. Lance Storm Smackdown: Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker Kurt Angle vs. Rhyno Chris Benoit vs. Big Show John Cena vs. Spanky Matt Hardy vs. Rey Mysterio Team Angle vs. Eddie/Tajiri Sean O' Haire vs. Mr. America FBI vs. Basham Brothers Not too bad

I do see some serious stinkers in there like Test/Steiner and O'Haire/Mr.A, but all in all both look to be good shows.
Guest jester Report post Posted May 29, 2003 I think the question is this. Is Vince thinking: "Great. With split PPVs we can bring up more lower and midcarders and give them something to do, and more match time for the cruisers." OR "Great. With split PPVs we have more time for Sable and Torrie to vaguely touch each other or roll around in gravy."
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted May 29, 2003 Wait... You're satisfied with a 25% - 30% "good" rate?

Most likely the second choice, and add to that HHH thinking "Yeah, more time to squash all these puny little men with my massive pecs!"

DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2003 Wait... You're satisfied with a 25% - 30% "good" rate? Yep. I really have no explanation why, it's just one of those things. I enjoy watching wrestling, even when it's not that good.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted May 29, 2003 Well as long as you enjoy it... I guess... For me, it has to be 80% for PPV's, and I can stand 20-30% for TV... But barely.
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted May 29, 2003 I suppose if I actually paid for PPV instead of watching them at a bar with friends, often talking about stuff not related to what's happening on the PPV, it would be different.

Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted May 29, 2003 Well at least crusierweight matches will get a place on every PPV... ...Right?? RIGHT??? *groan*
Guest Polish_Rifle Report post Posted May 29, 2003 the only thing they have been building on Smackdown lately is Mr. America and Vince. No one cares about the FBI, yet they are constantly involved with Brock and Taker. Banish them to Velocity already!
Guest nikowwf Report post Posted May 29, 2003 Test and Suck O-Haire got PPV matches this month anyway with both full rosters. Test was in TWO freaking matches on this PPV. (and the PPV also sucked hard...hmm...perhaps a connection) niko
