Guest Jobber of the Week Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 That Kurt Angle thing tonight was brilliant. It looked like a friggin' Nike commercial at times. It was so well done and professional looking that it's a shame such skill is wasted at a company that thinks old women stripping and Katie Vick is "mature" stuff. At least they get paid well, I hope.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Let's hope this is an indication that they finally 'get' Kurt Angle. No more milk fellas.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Awww, I kind of like the goofy guy (I kind of like comedy angles in general if they're done well) but I hope the serious competitor persona lasts at least until WM XX.
Guest BANKYWOOD Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Let's hope this is an indication that they finally 'get' Kurt Angle. No more milk fellas. I actually am holding a glimmer of hope.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 They hit all the right notes in the Video Package, all they need to do is take it further and then create a foil for him so it can be enhanced.
{''({o..o})''} Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 I've heard good things about this clip but unfortunately my tape ran out. Came anybody post this please?
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Angle can do *no* comedy. None. Zero. He should come back focused. Sure, it won't be as "fun", but storyline wise it will be 100x's better for both the audience, and Angle himself.
Guest BANKYWOOD Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Angle can do *no* comedy. None. Zero. He should come back focused. Sure, it won't be as "fun", but storyline wise it will be 100x's better for both the audience, and Angle himself. He did cut a lot of comedy out of his act on the road to Wrestlemania. He began to change a lot of his traits from the past. He didn't hop around like a jack ass after a move. He didn't cut goofy promos about cake and home town teams. Instead, he calmly walked to the ring with his hood up like an actual amateur wrestler. He talked about WRESTLING and didn't fall into the unnecessary cheap heat routine. Maybe Angle decided he would return if HE could choose the direction of his character. If not, he could walk out at any time. He seems dedicated to becoming the greatest WWE wrestler of all-time, and from his recent interviews, he has a good understanding of his and the companies current faults.
Guest EsotericMaster Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 I liked it a lot. The one thing the wwe never slacked on was video production. In that regard they are always very professional.
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 I think this was the best video they've ever done. The choice of footage was great, the music was perfect (I went and downloaded it immediately, I hadn't heard that song before), the message was clear and hit straight on, I loved every aspect of it. One video I liked that doesn't get remembered all that much was a video they did for Flair set to Kid Rock's song "Cocky". It had a good dynamic because it was classic Flair footage set to a modern song. Plus again, it hit all the right notes and delivered the intended effect well.
thuganomics Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 I think the humor is an essential part of Kurt Angle. I'm not saying it can't be down-played some, but I don't think Angle would be quite as good without some of the silliness.
Guest Aero Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 I agree... that video package was one of WWE's very best. I'm just sorry I didn't have my VCR set last night. Here's hoping they replay it very soon.
Guest AndrewTS Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 He talked about WRESTLING and didn't fall into the unnecessary cheap heat routine. March 11 (taped for the 13th), 2003 in Pittburgh, PA; the week before Wrestlemania: (maybe not exact quote) "What other success story has come out of Pittsburgh? And Mr. Rogers is dead so he doesn't count." At No Way Out he insulted the Canadians. I'm sure there are other examples... The high-quality production team is one of the few things WWE has different than WCW. They do their best to make even the shittiest match seen worth watching.
Guest Choken One Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 They hit all the right notes in the Video Package, all they need to do is take it further and then create a foil for him so it can be enhanced. That's were John Cena comes in. Cena can seriously cut a hard edge promo with out the comedy and we've already done Angle/Benoiut...
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 honestly, I don't think they could ruin ANYTHING with Angle. I know we're talking about the WWE here but Angle IS that good.
Guest Space_Cowboy Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 The video packages are just about the one thing the WWE doesn't continually fuck up, they always manage to put some cool video packages together, even for the stupidest of things.
Guest Anglesault Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Too bad it will all be ruined when he comes back to an idiot comedy feud with Spanky.
Guest Goodear Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 I cannot believe you still think that WWE has it out for Kurt. I cannot believe it.
Guest Anglesault Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 I know. It's not like they've blown EVERY OTHER GOOD THING as regards to Kurt or anything
Guest Zero_Cool Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 I completely missed the segment. What was the song, and is the video up for download anywhere yet?
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Coldplay + Angle = Best thing on Smackdown last night.
Mecha Mummy Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 The video was AWESOME. They REALLY going to turn him heel again...?
Guest MixxMaster Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 That video WAS great....however, it DID seem a bit long...the friends who were watching with me on my big screen used it to takes piss breaks and stuff. One even said, "Oh come on, more crap and no wrestling!" Personally, I also thought that in addition to cutting it down, it could've used a much better song. That band sounded like almost every other Nu-Metal band...crappy guitar tones, and weak vocals. Still, I will capture it, and put it on Kazaa Lite for all of those interested. It will be Kurt Angle returns promo...
Guest Goodear Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 I know. It's not like they've blown EVERY OTHER GOOD THING as regards to Kurt or anything Complaning about Kurt Angle's push is like complaining about the artwork on the Titanic. You might not like it but there are about 15 BILLION other things going on that are worse. Face it there are like two people pushed harder than Kurt and one one of them is bonking the bosses daughter. If you took your face out of Kurt's crotch every once in a while, you might notice.

You might not like it but there are about 15 BILLION other things going on that are worse. So what. Face it there are like two people pushed harder than Kurt and one one of them is bonking the bosses daughter. If you took your face out of Kurt's crotch every once in a while, you might notice. Undertaker Triple H Goldberg Kevn Nash Brock Lesnar Just off te top of my head, of course. And none of them play an idiot character

Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Guest Goodear Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Undertaker Would that be The Undertaker feuding with the FBI? The Undertaker who has to team with Nathan Jones? Did The Undertaker get a injury update every week or any kind of promotion to herald his return? Triple H Like Duh, I already granted you that. Goldberg The one that was fueding with Christain? The one that got punked out by Jericho last week? The one Goldust put a wig on? Kevin Nash Ha, right. Nash has lost what ... every match since his return? Why didn't you put Scott Steiner on your list too since he got to pull job duty for Triple H too. Brock Lesnar Feuding with the Big Show... and The Big Show... and The Big Show again. You're right, he's handled sooooo well.

The biggest problem is that he was always the BUTT of the joke. Still, Comedy to a bare minimum

You're right, he's handled sooooo well. And EACH AND EVERY ONE of those situations is better than CONSTANTLY being the BUTT of jokes in midcard feuds. Who considers the wig era a push? Or what about the Fall Angle/Benoit feud, where they were almost total incompetants and 90 percent of the feuds was booked around how Stupid and bumbling they were? And that LOVELY Angle/Lesnar feud ROCKED! Just like the Edge feud, where Angle was the inferior in every way.
