your DVDVR TOP 500 WRESTLERS UPDATE v8

Goodear, nice bitching. that's always nice to see. I personally think that Angle/Benoit alone was better than ANYTHING Guerrero has done all year. And I mean ALL year. That match is my MOTD so far for WWE, and unless something superbly better happens anytime soon, that ain't changing.

Yeah but its happy bitching, not "YOU STINKING PEICE OF FILTH HOW DAAAARE YOU!" so I still feel like a human being ^_^ Anyway, Benoit and Angle might have put together the best match of the decade or what have you (I didn't see it), but that doesn't mean that Benoit had a better six months than Eddie. Eddie has just been tremendus on television since he started working with Edge all through the tag matches with Chavo and this latest run with Tajiri against Team Angle might just top all of that. Meanwhile, Benoit is just giving me the impression that he's sort of sleep walking through a bunch of matches lately ever since Angle got hurt.

Yeah, it really does seem like Benoit is going through the motions. Even if it was just a short time ago he worked what was thought to be miracle in carrying A-Train to a great match on SD.

He's either phoning it in because one of only a few guys who can match up to him, in Kurt, got hurt. Or because he got knocked down to feuding with the FBI and putting over goddamn Sean O'Haire soon after his heralded Rumble match with Kurt.

For all we know, it could a column a, column b thing. Kurt's injury woke him up to the fact that maybe he should slow down, and that he doesn't have to work hard if he's just gonna be wrestling mid-carders. Of course it hasn't stopped him from performing the Spinal Fusion '01 Headbutt of Moderate Discomfort during awkward moments in his recent matches. And this is all just speculation, of course.

Anyway, the end around is that... I really don't know who a lot of these guys are. So I'll just say that it pleases me greatly to see American Dragon at #1.

Oh, and A-Train > O'Haire.

Finally some damn respect!

YOUR NWA:TNA run down... assuming that I can remember most of the people that did the one night six way X Division matches.

22) Low-Ki'

43) Ace Steel ***Dames Screams out in terror***

44) Paul London

48) A.J. Styles

59) CM Punk

74) Christopher Daniels (Curry Man)

78) Steve Corino

101) Red

108) Slash (Wolfie D)

158) James Storm

225) Jerry Lynn

286) D'Lo Brown

314) Jeff Jarrett

327) Shark Boy

362) Jason Cross

391) Chris Sabin

461) Justin Credible

Didn't make the cut: Kid Kash (got missed I believe by accident according to Dean), Raven, The Truth, Sonny Siaki, New Jack, Mike Sanders, and Disco.

It's hard to argue with the ranking of the guys in TNA...since they do most of their work outside of TNA...and I never see that.

Kash actually had a decent 6 onth span, for the most part. Right after he won the X title I thought he strung together a few matches in a row where he slowed it down and didn't botch everything. Then he got hurt and still did a good job...even carrying Trinity once (and it only worked once).

Aside from the Styles ladder match it's hard to even remember one other decent Raven match...so meh.

Truth went through a long stretch of not even appearing.

Siaki sucks...as does New Jack...as does Sanders (although I think he had two watchable matches...which beats New Jack!).

Gilberti's changed character progressed better than his in ring work...but he did have some decent stuff with Styles...but Styles has decent stuff with everyone in TNA.

4) Genichiro Tenyru

5) Yoshihiro Takayama

I guess those WJ matches against Choshu are really good, huh?

DR: One is great. The other less great. The match against Koshinaka is also great.

48) A.J. Styles

No. Just, no.

DR: Why do you hate the AJ Styles? It's the hat isn't it?

57) Ian Rotten

65) Doug Williams

If you say so.

DR: Schneider thinks Williams is overrated and Rippa loves him and it is the opposite for Ian Rotten so it's fun to see who wins these battles of the wills. I said to buck Williams down because he isn't nearly as Tamura or Sakata and that's who he was really up against. Ian actually lost to Preston Quinn and Todd Stratton in the Southern ass-stomper who can mat wrestle category.

101) Red

105) El Dandy

?

148) Don Frye

is above

DR: Eh. The kids love the Amazing Red.

149) Brian Kendrick (Spanky)

154) Dr. Wagner Jr.

173) Black Tiger (Silver King)

178) Shelton Benjamin

182) Ultimo Dragon

183) Doug Basham (Machine)

191) Hiroyoshi Tenzan

193) Hiroshi Tanahashi

am I missing something here?

DR: Schneider and Stuart had a good discussion on the New Japan rankings where Schneider tried to justify everything. I'll link it here: http://www.puroresufan.com/forum/viewthrea...ad.php?tid=1328

OMG THE 500~~~~!

YAY~!

DR: GOODEAR! YES! BRINGER OF THE HATE!

1) American Dragon

- Oh you are damn right there Dean and Company. Anybody that actually likes wrestling should check out Dragon just to see just how a person can stay on the mat and still provide interesting action. Dean I salute you.

3) Chris Benoit

14) Eddie Guerrero

Oh no way man, Benoit has been way slipping lately pulling out the mundane matches over and over again while tossing out all the good and filling it with the spotty spot spot. How many times did he throw that headbutt when his opponent was working the neck? Eddie had a much more solid term working with lesser guys while getting Chavo and Tajiri more over in the process.

DR: I knew you were going to hate that. As for lesser guys, Benoit was carrying A-Train and the frickin' Big Show.

50) Chris Jericho

Bah me no like Chris Jericho anymore. Everything the guy does is at three quarters speed and his offense never makes even the least bit of contact anymore. Sure he can bump, but so can Spike Dudley... too high.

DR: Ah, Rippa went straight to the wall for him.

63) Chris Hamrick

Again with the Chris Hamrick? Can't say I've ever been impressed with the guy who always struck me as a poor man's Bobby Eaton with less personality and without anything that didn't come off the top rope.

DR: I didn't actually see the matches. I think Ray and Pete liked his stuff in USA Pro or something. I always like him whenever I see him.

74) Christopher Daniels (Curry Man)

Feels way low for me.

DR: That was fun. Schneider HATED Daniels matches from the period- especially his matches versus CM Punk. Rippa was pinning his argument on the ECWA stuff.

101) Red

Now what does Red do that makes him better than (for example) Rob Van Dam? Because everytime I've seen the little spot tosser, he sells less than The Undertaker and never sets up his ridiculous spots properly.

DR: Schneider can reel off the matches to you. All I saw was the shitty MLW with Daniels and Super Crazzy. That was a-plenty for me.

118) Jack Victory

THEE Jack Victory??? Royal Family Jack Victory? I'm stunned.

DR: WILDLY Resurgent. WILDLY.

124) Brock Lesnar

JACK VICTORY??

DR: Same bumps, better punches.

135) Jamie Noble

JACK VICTORY??!?!?!?! Seriously, Jamie doesn't use his gimmick enough and his offense doesn't have the same snap to it that Benoit has so I can see him being this low on the totem pole.

DR: See the "Noble reamed by WWE" reasoning earlier in the thread.

178) Shelton Benjamin

263) Charlie Haas

You guys make me sad. Seriously, did you make this list to hurt me Dean? Benjamin is not better than Haas and sure as shooting not better by almost 100 spots. Someone needs to explain to me what exactly Shelton does better other than kick than Haas because I am not seeing it.

DR: Oh come on. I love TEAM ANGLE but you can't same they are great when the WORST team they wrestle is Rhyno and Benoit. I like Shelton's matwork a lot more than I like Haas's.

259) Goldust

Feels low to me as the guy does a whole lot more for me in the ring than some people ranked higher like Christian. They're basically the same sort of minimalist workers but Goldust seems to do a lot more solid stuff with his than Christian does.

DR: I didn't watch RAW but Schneider- who loves Goldust- was of the thinking that his new gimmick is getting in the way of professional wrestling.

293) Chuck Palumbo

You know Dean was pushing for this because of the punches. GO PUNCHES.

DR: Oh yeah.

368) Jerry Lawler

Please tell me he still works indys and you all aren't basing this off of his WWE work. Please.

DR: He works the indies?

HAHAHAHAHAHA! This is based on his indie stuff.

424) Mil Mascaras

The requisite "He's still alive? He's STILL wrestling?" ranking.

DR: There is a match where he wrestles fucking MANNY FERNANDEZ that Tom and Schneider got last weekend. I SOOOOOO want to see it.

474) A-Train

I'm winning you over Dean and you know it. A-Train is the future buddy! THE FUTURE!

DR: YES. HE IS THE FUTURE. OF THE 450s.

DEAN.

Yeah, the fact that Angle vs Benoit was arguably the best match in WWF history has more weight than most things in anchoring Benoit at 3 at least.

You gotta get from the Sweet Sixteen Tournament matches on in IWA-Ms to see the REAL Ace Steel. You never hold the NWA-TNA match against a brother.

And Dames, after watching as much TNA as you have to, do you still believe in a kind and loving God? I think I would gouged my eyes by now. You are a man.

Ok...I've heard comparisons to Benoit and that ilk when it comes to Steel, but I have NOT seen it.

I guess I got to get those tapes....

As for how I can stand TNA on a weekly basis as much as I do...

The recaps have made me a semi-celeb and I enjoy doing them. It could be Heat and I'd do it. I actually enjoy recapping, unlike other famous recappers out there.

You gotta get the SS16/Ted Petty Invitation from 2002 period. Best 35 bucks I've ever spent that didn't involve a turtle and string.

TNA seems to fuck everyone up. I'm guessing it's the whole "It's PPV, so 6 minutes for you!" thingy, when most guys are used to working 10-15 minutes or longer, especially in the case of Punk, who I still maintain should be top 10-15.

And Dean, as a person who's starting to get into IWA-MS, what's so damn great about Michael Todd Stratton. From what little I've seen (IWA-MS 300th show), he seems solid, but not top 50.

And Bull Pain at 69? BULL PAIN?

I'm not saying that they're ranked poorly or anything, if anything Shelton is too high on the totem pole. I was just bringing up the wide disparity between the two's rankings and wondering how that conclusion was reached. Personally (obviously), I think Haas does a lot more neat stuff than Benjamin at the moment and I think he shows a lot more personality.

DR: I loved the Ace Steel vs Super Dragon match especially.

DR: Punk was hurt for some of the time period and wasn't as consistent as Cabana or Hero.

And Dean, as a person who's starting to get into IWA-MS, what's so damn great about Michael Todd Stratton. From what little I've seen (IWA-MS 300th show), he seems solid, but not top 50.

DR: When you have 15 trainees a card and you need a guy who can guide them to a fun match, Stratton is your man and then he brings it for the big boys.

And Bull Pain at 69? BULL PAIN?

DR: BULL PAIN! I haven't seen the Ian Rotten vs Bull Pain match that got him so high, but I like his match with Corp Robinson enough to justify it.

I wanted to be able to push SUWA into the top 5. When I finally came to the realization that he didn't have the matches, I pretty much pawned off the placements to Ray and wept bitterly.

Actually, over on Stuarts board, Ray wrote his thinking about ranking most of the TORYUMON guys. It's here. http://www.puroresufan.com/forum/viewthrea...tid=1328&page=2

or you can read this:

RD: Since I did most of the placements for Toryumon with Pete since everyone else seemed to only love SUWA, I'll comment on some of this.

Yagi hasn't wrestled in the time period, may want to remove him.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RD: Actually he did appear on tv because he and araken had the loser has to grow out their hair match. I didn't think much of him, i think dean's love of him kept him on.

quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUWA isn't even the 25th best wrestler in Toryumon at this point. Punch, punch, facebuster, no sell, no sell, SUWAmania hulk up, John Woo, FFF. Every match.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RD: Everyone else loves him. I do love the drop kick

quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mochi, Magu, and Ryo have fallen off enough to warrant lower placement. I won't argue there. But Milano is top 100, as is YOSSINO.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RD: I was disappointed with the Saito stuff. Last time out, I loved his work, he seemed to be missing something this time out. The thing that saved Magnum to me was the match with Milano or he probably would have gone lower. Mochizuki was up and down. I'm not sold on Milano yet. Of the t2p guys, i thought he was the 3rd best. It was sort of averaged out, I got 2 batches of T-Mon, 3 or 4 blocks from November on and then the Numbero Uno tour and the PPV. YOSSINO and Shuji I thought looked better in the first batch, but Milano looked better than Shuji in the Uno stuff, but on Average, it ended up YOSSINO, Shuji, Milano.

quote:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

K-ness should be top 50, with Susumu 1 or 2 behind him. and really, what on earth has Ultimo done besides stand n the apron while his infinitely more talented (at this point) tag partners and opponents work most of the match? But eh, what do I know.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RD: I think Ultimo had the Differ Cup which the other guys watched in his favor. He looked fine in the TMon match at the t2p show I saw. K-Ness almost didn't make the list due to being hurt. Missing the Uno stuff hurt him because I like K-Ness a lot, but that was the show that saved Genki's bacon (mostly because his other tv match was a 3 minute against Genki Ichikawa)
