Really? Wow. I only know of him through tapes, as he was before my time, but he's a legend no doubt.

Sad news. At least he lived to old age unlike so many in wrestilng. RIP Freddy.

This is tragic. He looked to be full of life on his last appearance on RAW, despite being in a wheelchair.

Terrible, terrible news.

God bless him.

Well, at least he got to see his book released. He'll live on in WrestleMania vignettes (they should NEVER get rid of him from the WM promo's).

Agreed. However it's sad he won't be around to do some of the voice-overs, because no one created atmosphere and made a shitty card actually look appealing like Freddie did.

I never saw any of his matches, but from the way he talked about himself in his book, he sounded like a legend.

I'm glad they actually used him properly for his last appearance, as compared to when Shane and Steph told him to die in 2001.

Oh man this sucks hard. Damn...freddie you were a legend and one of the best talkers of your day. FUCK YOU STEPH for wishing him death, he knew more about wrestling then you will learn in this 1 life time, hell it would take you 20 to even get half as good as he was.

Way before my time as a wrestler, but was lucky enough to catch his managerial stint in the 80's.

RIP, ya pencil-neck geek.

I'm remembering my favorite Blassie line...from WrestleMania 1...after he gave his cane for Volkoff to use to get Volkoff and Sheik the Tag Titles...

<Gene>Where's that cane of yours?

<Blassie>What cane? I didn't have a cane!

RIP Freddy Blassie. Give them a cane-shot for me!

God bless, just f'n GOD BLESS Classie Freddie Blassie!!!!!!!

The man never, NEVER lost his mind and he kept up to date with the Pro. Wrestling industry up to the very day he died. Fuck it, when he COULD he even got involved every so offten, must like he did durring the Invasion angle.

Remember that everyone? Sure it was a rip off of Pearl Harbor, but still, it was great to see the man do that, and I'm sure we'll see that in a awesome as fuck video of him one day.

Hell, just up to two weeks ago he was even involved in an angle, just wow. This is a man who lived and truly BREATHED this industry, and for that I tip my hat. If more people would wake up, and give as much to this sport as he has/did then this industry will truly live forever, just as his memory will in mine, and many others, mind.

I don't remember his wrestling days, but I have seen tapes of him and I loved his work. He was truly one of the greatest heels of all time, there is no doubt about THAT at all. I DO remember him active however, when he managed Hulk Hogan and the Iron Sheik. I don't remember it clearly, but I do. I also remember him managing various other guys, but that's about it.

Once again, God bless you Classie Freddie Blassie, you were indeed one of the classiest of them all. Thanks for everything, and may everyone else look up to you as an example of what it means to truly give your all, and to forever be one with the industry.

I share everyone's sentiments. I loved his reactions during the Miss Rumble 2000 contest as Mae got naked.

At least it was Freddie's time. He lived a long, fruitful life and called no less than three generations of fans pencil-necked geeks.

He'll be missed... but let no one say he was taken before his time. I can't imagine he could have given any more to the business even if he'd been able to stick around - he's given so much already.

I remember watching Confidential once, and seeing a piece talking about how Blassie did volunteer work with the homeless.

He not only gave a lot to the wrestling world, but to the less fortunate as well. He will be missed.

I remember that too. Every friday he would go to help out at a local shelter. EVERY Friday. He didn't miss once.

RIP Blassie.

Freddie Blassie, despite being long retired, could still get the fans to pop and still make an angle or storyline better.

I'm glad the Hollywood fashion plate got to be on RAW one last time before he passed on

RIP to an old school hero, who lived a long, full and eventful life doing what he loved.

There's an old Israeli proverb that states one should not be sad at a death but joyful. When you are born, it's like a ship leaving the harbor-the journey is uncertain and perilous. When you die, the ship has safely reached port in it's destination-heaven. In short, instead of mourning, you should celebrate the life he lived.

Set some pencil-necked geeks straight in heaven Freddy.

I never saw any of his matches, but from the way he talked about himself in his book, he sounded like a legend.

Really? I would've thought he would've tried to make himself come off as badly as possible.

Oh, no ... not in the context of a fake wrestling angle! And using him properly is the 3 Minute Warning treatment with him doing the gay "get the tables!" line?

FUCK YOU STEPH for wishing him death, he knew more about wrestling then you will learn in this 1 life time, hell it would take you 20 to even get half as good as he was.

You know, I'm pretty sure she didn't wish he'd die, they just said he'd die soon. And what do you know, they were right, and I'm sure Freddy knew they were.

And grow up, by the way.

The actual proverb is probably more concise and better-put and stuff. You should've looked that up instead.

You know, it's nice that everyone is sad (for a couple reasons), but all these little lines at the end of your eulogies aren't really cool and deep and dramatic. They're awful, and most of them are really awful.

Anyway, he seemed like a nice guy and I know he'll be missed by a lot of people.

That's all.

Dude, we are all trying to pay our respects. Today we all lost a legend in the wrestling business. Don't mock us, belittle us or make fun of our comments. We are remembering a great man that provided us all with entertainment, and those WrestleMania promos were first class. He will be sorely missed by every fan that has seen him perform throughout the years.

RIP Freddy, we will miss you.

God bless Fred

If everyone cared for the business as much as he did it would be in a lot better state than it is I'll tell you that

I'm actually confident WWE will properly honour his memory for a change

I didnt look to see if there was a thread about this, so I thought I would post it here anyway. This morning on Regis and Kelly, Regis paid tribute to Blassie... it was a very very cool little segment. I don't have time to type the details, but I'll post a description of it from 1wrestling

REGIS PHILBIN PAYS TRIBUTE TO FREDDIE BLASSIE

by Buck Woodward Updated: 6/3/2003 9:18:30 AM

This morning during "Live With Regis & Kelly", Regis Philbin took some time to pay tribute to Classy Freddie Blassie. Philbin, who was obviously choked up at one point, spoke of how Blassie was one of his first guests when he started out with his own late night talk show, and how they had become friends during his frequent appearances.

Philbin showed several pictures from past Blassie appearances, including shots of himself with Ernie Ladd and Jules Strongbow, a shot of Philbin's jacket after it had been torn up by Blassie, and a picture of Blassie and a team of wrestlers engaging in a tug of war with the San Diego Chargers.

The funniest picture was of an incident that occurred off camera. Philbin explained how not everyone "got" the sometimes abrasive humor of Blassie, and he revealed a picture of comedienne Martha Raye giving Blassie the finger.

Regis closed the discussion by showing a picture of Blassie from 1994, accepting his induction into the WWF Hall Of Fame, then moved on with the show.
