Guest CanadianChris Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 NEWWWWWWWWWWWW Cruiserweight champion!!!
Guest Lemon Drop Kid Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Rey III should kick his dad in the junk. And why doesn't his family wear masks?
Guest AndrewTS Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 They let that end the show without any stupid Mr. America bullshit?! Kudos.
Guest JMA Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Awesome match! That's what wrestling is all about. How many stars should it get?
Guest CanadianChris Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Well, maybe there's hope for them after all. Nah. But that was still a great match.
Guest The Superstar Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Fantastic match. I love you WWE. At least for now.
Guest Lemon Drop Kid Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 SK went with ***1/2 but I loved the psychology and big match feel so I'm going with ****. For what THAT's worth.
Guest Raven_Effect01 Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Great match. Too bad we can't expect this every week on Smackdown though.
Guest Anglesault Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Yay! Now rey is the captain of the sinking ship!
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 The match was ok, nothing that I won't forget by Saturday. I liked the ref starting it off in the centre of the ring and the staredown - I hope that continues for all title matches along with respective introductions from the corner - that gave it a big match kinda feel. But sadly, I think there are 3 things that influenced this match other than two top wrestlers being in it 1)Reys 'home town' 2)Reys DVD 3)Big Show smacking Rey against the ring post and Vince feeling guilty about it, all of which is unique to this situation and I can't see it carrying over. I hope it does, but I don't think it will. My main problem is that it didn't feel like a cruiserweight match, it just felt like just-another-wwe-over-10-minute-main-event-match. So what? Well, for the cruiserweight division (and the WWE itself) to become successful it needs to be distinctive. While I like limb-work as much as the next guy, but this took out the very thing that makes Rey fun to watch and the pin was weak. I would have liked to have seen the Rey/Eddie HH97 finish with the hurricanrana, it still was the "surprise pin" but it was out-of-the-ordinary and perked your ears up. Ah well, hopefully Dragon vs. Rey is on the books, their WWIII match would be perfect for the WWE cruiserweight division.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Oh, and I liked the way Michael Cole ended the show off - no "What will happen next week?!" bs. that makes the show you just watched meaningless. It had closure to it, like the ending of a big time PPV event.
Guest nikowwf Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 I was waiting for them to cut away from Rey celebrating to show Mr. America walking or Sable looking suggestively at Stephanie. nice show. niko
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 I think the reason the match did not have a cruiserweight-fee to it was simply because Matt's not a CW and does not wrestle like one. I really enjoyed the match but the commercial break less than 2 minutes into the match was really annoying and irritating.
Yuna_Firerose Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Pretty boring show, surprisingly. The only standout points were Kurt Angle returning, the Rey/Matt CW match, and the Blassie tribute vid [which almost had me crying]. From 8:30 on, I was flipping back and fourth between SD and Spy Kids 1.
Mecha Mummy Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 "Hmm, I've always marked for Wushin Lighter. " "Allteemo Dragon too! " "What about Tigger Mask? " "The Great Saucekay is the man!" /channeling Gorilla Monsoon/ WILL YOU STOP IT!! /end channeling Gorilla Monsoon/ You can look at it that way. Or you can do like I did and applaud Michael Cole for referring to a wrestler who hasn't been in the WWE for like five or six years. That caught me by surprise, I was waiting for "Great cruiserweights like Dean Malenko... Crash Holly, and Gillberg!"
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 I enjoyed that too. I mean, they're no Mike Tenay, but it was cool none-the-less.
