Murmuring Beast Posted June 8, 2003 Author Report Posted June 8, 2003 Go out with your friends instead or go for a nice long walk. It's good for you, plus you'll learn more about wrestling.
Guest The Decadent Slacker Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 YES, the motives surrounding this are not exactly heartfelt, but i'm just glad they decided to acknowledge the dead in some respect. I think, as it pretains to the Hart family, Vince might be a little more careful since he'd want Bret back sometime. i think it's good that stories are being told, however i would be better if they weren't the company line. If they had any sense, they'd talk about some of the other guys no one does: Adonis, Studd, JYD, you know the guys. i'll watch if it's worth watching, but i doubt it will be. on a side note, you've gotta feel for Okerlund somewhat. i mean, doing all these shows on the deaths of guys he's known for years must be pretty fucking sad
Guest Insane Bump Machine Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 Are you not happy with Voller? If you fail to beat the Faroes - well, let's just say, that's a real indictment of the game just now. The big teams are getting scalped all over the show. Völler is OK, at least better than Ribbeck and Vogts. But he's far too nice. He really needs to step up and kick the player's asses from time to time. Even after the awful game yesterday he still didn't really criticize anything. He doesn't have to do that in public of course, but I don't think that he critizices enough in private either. And there are also some other issues, like having Klose continually drag our offense down when there are much better players like Schroth, Lauth or Kuranyi available. And why did he let Ballack play the whole game, he obviously wasn't healthy. And don't get me started on Ramelow....but overall Völler's not bad.
Murmuring Beast Posted June 8, 2003 Author Report Posted June 8, 2003 Why the Hell are people like Okerlund employed? It just shows you how insecure McMahon really is.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 Why the Hell are people like Okerlund employed? It just shows you how insecure McMahon really is. Whats wrong with Mean Gene all of a sudden? People were marking out like little school girls when he first came back.
Murmuring Beast Posted June 8, 2003 Author Report Posted June 8, 2003 I just though Scotland were the most eager yesterday, which is real shock to my system. See, in the past, Scotland would always kick the asses of the big teams regardless of the score. But with Vogts, with the exception of yesterday, there has been no heart in the performances. Hopefully we have turned the corner.
Murmuring Beast Posted June 8, 2003 Author Report Posted June 8, 2003 I'll be brutally honest: people like Okerlund are of no use nowadays.
Guest The Decadent Slacker Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 but yes, they aren't justified doing this. who knows, maybe they saw people voting to see "old school" footage & stars on their surveys, & said "Hey, the Liz thing drew, she was old..& dead! thats it, death!" Besides, they already did Bulldog didn't they? Fact is, watch or don't. I don't want to see these people exploited for fucking themselves up, but i'm a fan & that doesn't mean shit. If they do it like they did with Blassie, it's one thing, because that was actually pretty tasteful. if they do it like an E! True Hollywodd Story or just some tasteless thing, then fuck them. If he tells the actual STORY i'm for it.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 I'll be brutally honest: people like Okerlund are of no use nowadays. Why, all he does is a good job of hosting a show that apparently no one watches. If you don't watch the show, then why should it bother you that he's employed? He does a better job of it than anyone else they have (JR, King, Tazz, Cole, Coach, Josh Matthews, Ernest Miller..) could probably do.
Guest The Decadent Slacker Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 I don't mind Gene. He's more fun to watch than any other guy over 50 not named Flair in the promotion.
Murmuring Beast Posted June 8, 2003 Author Report Posted June 8, 2003 Whether I watch it or not is irrelevant: I still know he is with the company and it's not really necessary. Vince just wants all his pals next to him so he feels more secure at night.
Guest IB2BLACK Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 What's wrong with Mean Gene, hosting Confidential. The dude been in the business for decades.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 Gene's the only good interviewer on the fuckin show.
Murmuring Beast Posted June 8, 2003 Author Report Posted June 8, 2003 But why bring him back????? This is the problem I have. Regardless of whether these guys are good or not - why the hell do they bring them back!!? Try and do something with future presenters instead.
Guest IB2BLACK Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 Why bring him back? Cause he's a recognizable "name" and to do a job, he's been doing for decades. Why did Monday Night Football hire John Madden.
Guest Kid Kablam Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 Gene's the only good interviewer on the fuckin show. Well, his old school hokiness is only less offensive than the likes of the Cat, so, I'll go along with that.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 Normally I would agree with you, but in this case Gene dwarfs every single interviewer out there... they only use him for confidential, so you can't say that they are Hoganing him or anything... in fact, they should use him more. If they want to build up an 'epic' match, have Gene in the middle of the ring to bring out 'wrestler x'.
Murmuring Beast Posted June 8, 2003 Author Report Posted June 8, 2003 Why bring him back? Cause he's a recognizable "name" and to do a job, he's been doing for decades. Why did Monday Night Football hire John Madden. Flawed theory. They brought back loads of old wrestlers and you willingly say they suck. John Madden? He some fat commentator?
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 Okerlund is the perfect person to host that show. He has a no-nonsense style, and given all the history pieces they do, having a commentator from the old days just seems right.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 Mene Gene is actually *good* though. He has the perfect voice for interviewing. Deep, but clear.
Guest Rob Edwards Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 Why bring him back? Cause he's a recognizable "name" and to do a job, he's been doing for decades. Why did Monday Night Football hire John Madden. Flawed theory. They brought back loads of old wrestlers and you willingly say they suck. John Madden? He some fat commentator? old wrestlers have deteriorated physically thus losing something important to the quality of their work, Gene's age doesn't affect his work until he goes senile
Murmuring Beast Posted June 8, 2003 Author Report Posted June 8, 2003 I don't see Confidential, but if they want to deliver a serious product I don't think Okerlund in his old age is the one to do it.
Agent_Bond34 Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 John Madden? He some fat commentator? Yep
Guest wildpegasus Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 Rewinding the topic here a little bit: The WWE does encourage roid and growth hormone abuse. Look at Beyond the Mat. In it Ross blantantly tells a newcomer to put on mass in the upper body or else you're not getting in. I forget how much muscle he reccomended but I do remember thinking "that's pretty much not going to be done without the aissistance of some help." So Ross, knowingly or unknowingly basically told the newcomer who wasn't that small to begin with to go on the roids. Now the newcomer has choices. He can go to the gym and attempt to put on that muscle naturally. By the time he gets it which is going to take a while (and that's a big IF that he can aquire it) his spot in the WWE is going to be taken. Or the other choice of taking the easier and possable only route- putting on the borrowed drug muscle. With the second choice he might have a job and acquire his dream. You can even say his desicision is ethical (and I'm not promoting roid use, I stay away from it myself) since he's only preventing someone else from going the same route. By encouraging bodybuilding physiques Vince is encouraging his wrestlers to seek aissistance. He knows this and it's because of his stubborn love of bodybuilding that this fact will probably never change.
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 There are ways of bulking up quickly withough sticking a needle into your ass though. Stuff like Androstenedione, Creatine, etc.
Murmuring Beast Posted June 8, 2003 Author Report Posted June 8, 2003 Ice-Cream too. Poor buggers like me would never be able to put on any weight.
Guest Rob Edwards Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 I don't see Confidential, but if they want to deliver a serious product I don't think Okerlund in his old age is the one to do it. then how can you comment? Gene provides a serious front to the show rather than clowning around with Heenan or something It's like Mark Lamarr, he's originally known for the comedy but he's perfectly fine as being a serious DJ
Guest wildpegasus Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 Quote "Stuff like Androstenedione, Creatine" Creatine doesn't even work for some people (myself included) and even if it does it's not close to roids. Andro is a precusor to testesterone and is not even close to steroid potency levels. It also can give you side effects. You can get prohormones on the market now but they have side effects as well.
Guest The Decadent Slacker Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Gene's skill is making things seem important. he gets things over. they need that more as a backstage interviewer than they do on Confidential. but he's perfect for the job there.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 I wouldn't make gene a regular backstage interviewer, but once or twice a month have him interview a guy in the middle of the ring for a 5-7 minute promo.
