All I know is, when Guns N Roses started, ain't no fuckin radio stations wanted to play our shit either. Ain't no radio stations that wanted to play Metallica. You may be a little different in what you're doing, or how you go about doing it, but I got a good feeling that......you're probably a human, right? You're probably a human being. And so right now, alternative, all that means to me is someone like Kurt Cobain and Nirvana who basically is a fuckin junkie, with a junkie life. And if the baby is born deformed, I think they both ought to go to prison. That's my feeling. And he's too good, and too cool to bring his rock n roll to you. Because, the majority of you, he doesn't like, or want to play to, or even have you like his music." Comments made by Axl after Nirvana turned down opening for GNR and Metallica in the summer of 1992. Personally I will always respect Axl more, even if he is a dickhead, at least he didn't give up. And he went through a lot more shit then Cobain did. He was raped by a stepfather in his childhood, for one. People may criticize him now for his attitude, but to me, all that really matters is the music. And his music has always measured up, and has always made sense to me. Cobain on the other hand, wrote unintelligible dribble, just so he could claim to be original cause no one had written anything like it before. He rhymed words together, and wrote lines that made no sense, and it was his attempt to be unique. Apparently, it worked, and while I do respect some of Nirvana's material, I don't think lyrically, or his stage presence could hold a candle to Axl Rose. In the end, I think Axl made Kurt look like the moron, even though at this point, Axl was being stupid by mentioning him by name and giving him publicity. At this point, Nirvana hadn't really hit yet and all Axl did was bring attention to him and make him look cool, like a rebel, like Axl did in 1987. But if you check out old interviews, Axl always has an intelligent argument, whereas Cobain will go "Guns N Posers make me wanna throw up". And that's all he had. And singing ability? C'mon, you'd take Cobain over Axl? You gotta be kidding me. Anyone could do Cobain's lame wail, but I don't think anyone in rock history has ever or will ever sound like Axl Rose. Kurdt and I believe Krist and maybe Dave too thought that Guns N Roses sucked, and Axl's whole "They don't want to play for you" shit is completely asinine. They just didn't want to tour with a band they clearly disliked. How self-centered! And yeah, Axl sure didn't make an idiot out of himself when he cussed Kurdt out in front of his CHILD at the Music Awards. So what if Kurdt didn't want to play for idiotic jocks who moshed to SLTS or In Bloom without the slighest idea of what it was about? So what if Kurdt didn't want people like the two guys who sung the lyrics to Polly while raping a woman to listen to his music? And his songwriting is completely love-hate. Some people like it, some people don't. That's how it is. I like Cobain's lyrics (Except when he gets too random/inside-jokey like he was in "Scentless Apprentice"), but hey, that's just me. I believe Kurdt killing himself was more of a side-effect of the drugs he took rather than genuine depression, and I am NOT going to defend him on it. Kurdt fucked himself over by continuing to do heroin, and that is clear. But you know what? Even with the death, Cobain still has more credibility than Axl "Chinese Democracy is coming out this year! REALLY! And we'll do a real tour that won't crap out and everything! Remember, we're still Guns N Roses, even if it's really just me, the guy in the KFC Bucket, and those other guys!" Showing up with a subpar performance at the VMAs, trying a headline tour which he then just abandoned and STILL hasn't given a reason for, and the neverending delays for Chinese Democracy. At the very least, we do know he is working on it and has been for some time. Word is, the new band is actually completing 3 albums, and Axl doesn't want the first one to come out until all 3 are finished. So, "just a little patience". The finished product will speak for itself. And before you talk shit on the new band, I would recommend you check out the new material that is out there, "Madagascar", "The Blues", "Chinese Democracy", "Silk Worms", and "Rhiad and The Bedoiuns". So what if Kurt didn't want to play to idiotic jocks? Yeah you're right, cause it's not presumptuous or egotistical to think you know the attitudes of everyone in a Guns N Roses/Metallica crowd. They must have all been cheesy jocks, the kind who picked on Kurt in high school and boy did he show them by not joining the tour! As far as somewriting comparisons........there is no comparison. Kurt's stuff doesn't even hold a candle to songs like "Don't Damn Me", "Estranged", "November Rain", and "My Michelle". His gibberish is so under Axl's level, I almost find a comparison of them laughable. Ok, Kurt's suicide was more to do with drugs then depression? Who cares? In the end, he is dead, most likely by his own hand, and if he pulled the trigger he is and was an irresponsible coward for leaving a daughter behind, not to mention legions of fans who lived for his words.
