Don't you feel smart when people who...

In terms of non-fans constantly asking why I watch, I've noticed that no matter what reason you give them, they're never satisfied so about a year ago, I found an old quote on a message board that says it pretty well.

Those who understand will never need an explanation.  Those who need an explanation will never. understand.

I started watching when I was 9 and I was a mark until I was 18. Reason being was that I hung around with smarks a lot and learned a lot about this business. Probably Dames was the one that taught me most about this business. 5 years as a smark now. And my 18 year old brother is a smark in training right now. He doesn't surf the sites and boards, but he's getting more knowledgeable and can explain to someone why Goldberg and HHH suck.

Okay, I found it. This is exactly what Freddie said: "In the carnival, when I'd walk into a room where a bunch of older wrestlers were talking, the'd all say, "Kay fabe. Kay fabe." It meant, "Shut up. There's a mark listening." I've heard a couple of theories about the origin of the term. Some people say that there was a deaf and dumb wrestler named Kay Fabian, so "kay fabe" implied, "Go mute." There's another story that Kay Fabian could hear and speak, but he was a real gossip and pain in the ass, so nobody told him anything."

So how do you pronounse "kayfabe"? I always tthought it way like Kie-Faybe, but if this is the case its Kay-Faybe. Which sounds so crap

I believe it's pronounce "Kay-Fayb" The only time I've heard it prounounced is from Wrestlecrap, and Gene Okerlund said it

Jeff Jarrett said this during that silly A&E Wrestling Documentary w. Steve Allen. I think it's bullshit. If you can't explain why wrestling is worth your time then you're not thinking.

I try not to justify wrestlings 'fakeness' with examples of how other things are 'fake' - I prefer to let it stand on its own merit. But I'm odd like that.

Don't you feel smart when people who don't watch wrestling try to point out all the faults from each show despite them not watching it? Yeah, then they try to make fun of you over the internet for "supporting it" yet they have 10x more posts than you in the WWE folder...

You mean you two are different posters?

I thought you were both the same troll.

It's fun. I mean, we don't have to suffer through the bad matches, insulting storylines and angles, bad commentary, and mindnumbing gimmicks.. but we can still talk about them!

Fuckin great.

Thing is this though. They're never satisfied. I keep explaining, however they always just repeat the same thing over and over again. It seems most likely that they're set in their own minds and won't listen to anyone else.

I explain to them that the reason I watch it is because it entertains me. These guys bust their ass and risk their bodies to entertain people. Outcome may be predetermined, but there is still the same potential for injury as in professional sports.

Those are usually the things I say.

EDIT: How did MrJag0 get on my ignore list?

Probably Dames was the one that taught me most about this business.

How the hell did I do that?

Dames

You don't remember when I was a typical mark who hated heels and loved faces? You explained a lot of things to me that I never understood before. Hell before you, I never knew the story behind the Bret Hart screw job. Then you showed me LOP and it all took off from there.

Yes, he just edited the colors in his post.

Calvin, I knew you were a mark...but I didn't see any difference after I gave you a few sites. Hell, even I went to the wrong sites back then.

You're still the biggest Val Venis mark I've ever known....and it scares me.

If I were to explain why I watch pro wrestling I would get over the athletic and artistic aspects of it. Of course people won't get the "it entertains me" because that's a subjective element. You can't convince them that it's entertaining, but you can convince them that it is *good* - whether or not they like it or will like it is irrelevant.

I don't try to talk about wrestling (at least the WWE) in public. So it never really comes up.
