Tony Hawk 4

I found out I can get a copy of Tony Hawk 4 brand new for $15.99 plus tax. Is it worth it? I almost bought it right away, considering a lot of places still carry it for $49.99 or $39.99, but someone told me that it is more like the Simpsons Skateboarding than the previous Tony Hawk franchise games. I used to love my N64 Tony Hawk 1 and haven't played any of the new ones since. I really wanted to get it, but in the little bit of Simpsons I played, I didn't really like it.

 

Is Tony Hawk worth the $15.99? If I really want a skateboard game should I spend the $15.99 on Tony Hawk 3?

 

What's everyone's opinion.

Starting at the far end of the wall where you start off at the college level, do a walltap to a wallie to a grind along the top of the wall. Now grind across the wall using your special grind, over the gateway, and when you get to the corner, jump and grind down the other section of the wall, over the two gateways. When you reach the end, jump and grind down the wall at the back of the school, all the way to the clock tower. Bump up your score by jumping periodically during your grinds to increase your combo modifier. I've pulled this off once, and it netted 100,000 points off of a single trick.

I don't mean to come off arrogant, but thats pretty novice compared to some of the shit I do on even Tony 2.

to be honest, tony hawk 4 is the only one in the series that i didn't run through in a matter of days. there is still a shitload of tricks, objectives, hidden shit that i still need to obtain/master. a game with maximum replay value if i ever saw one.

You'd better have it by now. I love the Tony Hawk games, and THPS4, while being the hardest one I've had the chance to actually sit down with, is the best of the bunch with the challenge, roster, and unlockables. I mean, c'mon, you can ride in a shopping cart as Bam Margera.

 

And while I'm on the subject, if they'd put out a Jackass or CKY game with the Tony Hawk engine, I'd buy it. I mean, you skate as Bam to earn money from sponsorships, then you spend it on buying supplies for stunts and pranks and avoid getting killed and arrested and kicked off the air. Yes, merge GTA and THPS and put Ryan Dunn in the middle of it.

Simple, look for the lines.

 

Anytime you end a combo, just look around where you stopped and you'll see at least three or four other things you could have done easily. After a while once you get the hang of spotting things and picking the right tricks, your combos will be huge, just push yourself a little more each time.

 

For example go to London, there is a line that I found that can get you 6,000,000+ points if you get it right.

Shopping cart races/Mario Kart style battles, button-bashing minigames where you've got to endure papercuts or make Raab run as fast as he can while he shits himself, Mike Vallely 4-on-1 ock battles, stilt boxing and shit wrestling fighting games, escape Preston using Weeman, and of course, Tony Hawk engined skating sections.

And yeah, 1 Mil+ combos are all the rage nowadays. Just keep pushing yourself. Manuals + Reverts are your friends.

In fact, does anyone remember Heimdall on the AMiga/ST? There was an awesome subgame in that. You were this drunken-ass Viking in a tavern, totally wasted on booze. There's a maiden tied to a bullseye much like Knoxville was, only it was six big chunks of hair tied to the thing in a star shape. You had to throw your axe at each strand to cut her free without killing her - only because you're intoxicated, the cursor went all over the place and it was MAD HARD to aim.

 

If you could integrate that kind of thing - drunk William tell or something - that would be awesome.

Much. But if you don't like the fast paced/high point combos of 3, you probably won't like four.

I think the College is the best place for terrific lines, with the Carnival coming in 2nd. Of course, nothing can match Rio in THPS 3. THe best combo/run I ever had was 235 tricks, netting me somewhere in the neighborhood of 16,000,000 points.

 

On my buddy Keith's THPS 3, we were playing one night, when we realized that the meter was always on special. We had never entered any codes, but the meter was on special all the time. Doing runs with the ability to bust off your special tricks at any time is a good thing.
