Guest Black Lushus Report post Posted June 13, 2003 I thought they were gay anyway...it is pretty obvious, i mean it was kinda veiled during their original run on Nickelodeon but you can tell they were gay...

Guest Flyboy Report post Posted June 13, 2003 This, can not be, fucking real. Sure it can. Just because TNN changed their name and direction of their show does not mean they still aren't dumbasses. Although, having a "male channel" and then having a gay cartoon in the programming kinda contradicts yourself. Unless they just want to appeal to the homosexual male just for that portion of programming.

Would it not make for better TV, if they wanted to, to just have everyone THINK they are gay without just coming out and saying it?

Guest Ghettoman Report post Posted June 13, 2003 I pray to god not, one of the greatest things about R+S was the unimplied inuendo that was totally up to interpretation, how can they can be so blasphemous!? Why am I so unsure of how to spell blasphemus!? WHY GOD WHY!!?!?!?!?

Guest razazteca Report post Posted June 13, 2003 SPIKE TV UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU IDIOT [Ren voice] This can not be. What can be more ghey than a redneck channel wanting to be more butch by changing its name to SPIKE and now promotes a ghey cartoon. Might as well get that designer guy Issac and RuPaul to host a show to out people.

Guest Eagan469 Report post Posted June 13, 2003 Yes...the words of a local paper...are the gospel. As far as we know the person reporting it was a newbie viewer and he thought they were gay. Stephen Battaglio New York Daily News Despite what Spike Lee thinks, the folks at Spike TV believe they're doing the right thing by chasing young guys with their new cable channel. Spike's new shows such as a raunchy ``Ren & Stimpy Adult Cartoon'' and ``Stripperella'' -- featuring a busty animated Pamela Anderson as a crime-fighting stripper -- are sharply aimed at men aged 18 to 34. It's an elusive group Madison Avenue will pay a bundle to reach because it watches less TV than all other adults. Lee has sued Spike parent Viacom, claiming the name will damage his image. Viacom officials argue he's off-base. A judge is expected to settle the matter later this week. Spike TV president Albie Hecht won't comment on the lawsuit. But he says the name was inspired by an old Jules Feiffer cartoon about a milquetoast, Bernard, who wanted people to know him by his tough-guy ``inside'' name, Spike. ``It's sporty and prankster-like,'' Hecht said. ``It implies a dog's name, which is man's best friend. All those attributes are great.'' Hecht said Spike's programming will go well beyond edgy animation (although the channel's next big programming announcement is expected to be a cartoon about Howard Stern's high-school days). The channel will offer its testosterone-fueled viewers information about fitness, financial markets, cars and technology. They also have many shows it airs now as TNN -- James Bond movies, wrestling, extreme sports and ``Enterprise'' repeats. Having a well-known director cause a flap for a channel that isn't on viewers' radar yet may seem like publicity bonanza. But it could also pose a problem. ``Spike Lee and (his lawyer) Johnnie Cochran are very good at getting the media to cover them and their stories and that could confuse the matter of what Spike TV is,'' said marketing strategist Laura Ries. ``Spike TV is going to have to jump on this and define clearly what they are.'' And just calling yourself a men's channel today isn't enough, according to Ries. ``Spike is going to need a `Sopranos,' `Sex in the City' or `Real World' type of show to put them on the map,'' she said. But Hecht points out that the channel, as TNN, already has a lot of male viewers. And over time he believes men will think of Spike TV the way women think of Lifetime. ``When we build a brand, we build a loyal emotional connection,'' he said. ``The whole becomes bigger than its parts.'' ------ SPIKE TV SHOWS --``Gary the Rat'': ``Frasier'' star Kelsey Grammer brings a touch of Kafka to Spike with his cartoon about a lawyer who wakes up one morning to find he has morphed into a man-size rat. Inspired by some agents and TV executives he's known perhaps? --``Ride With Funkmaster Flex'': The hip-hop deejay offers a weekly look at the celebrities and their wheels in kind of a ``Cribs'' for cars. Eminem, Nelly, Lil' Kim and 50 Cent have been lined up for the show, which begins in August. --``Ren & Stimpy Adult Cartoon Party'': Once a favorite on Nickelodeon, the duo is back -- this time as a gay couple. Not a minute goes by without a gag about bodily fluids, so keep the TV dinner on ice while watching. --``Stripperella'': Pamela Anderson is a stripper by night and a crime-fighting superhero by late night in an animated half-hour from ``Spider-Man'' creator Stan Lee. There's a lot of nudity in the premiere episode, but some family values, too: The father of one of the girls at the strip club puts a $100 bill in his daughter's G-string. Guest Lethargic Report post Posted June 14, 2003 John K has always said they were gay. They had to keep it under the rader on the old show but he DID have plenty of blatant gay joke he tried to get on the show that the censors cut out before they aired. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted June 14, 2003 Well the original creator is responsible for it...so we can't really bitch that much. It's not like TNN replaced the original creator and the new people responsible for the show decided this. Besides none of us know how this will affect the show. This "added" aspect may lead to more hilarity, so unless you're some insane homophobe wait until we see the show before freaking out. EDIT: Damn...both of my points were addresed before I could post this.
Guest Eagan469 Report post Posted June 14, 2003 the thing is, I got my little cousin into TMNT when it came back a few months ago, and I thought it would be cool if he got into Ren & Stimpy well, it sounded good in theory
Guest Ghettoman Report post Posted June 14, 2003 It's just that though, before it was all inuendo, it's what made the show. Of course the gay couple stuff was always there but what made it so funny was it wasn't blatant and yet still obvious at first glance. We had Ren coming home after a long days work expecting a well cooked meal from Stimpy, we had him angry at Stimpy for watching such mindless tv shows, it was a stereotypical marriage basically so why the need to go out and say "there gay"!? As long as it's done in the same manner I wont mind, but if they try to be blatant about it for the sake of shock they've lost me.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted June 14, 2003 The original creator is just free to fully explore the gay overtones more so than the Nick years. So I won't be surprised if it's still just hinted at...just better hints.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted June 14, 2003 This is probably why they'll be showing both the new shows and the old shows. You can watch what you prefer.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted June 14, 2003 Eh...I don't even know anymore. I don't think it'll be as bad as some seem to think, but I'd like to see the show before making conclusions.
Guest Eagan469 Report post Posted June 14, 2003 Viacom owns the rights to all the episodes. Funny thing is, the "kid-friendly" episodes that were made for the last season of The Ren & Stimpy Show still air daily on Nicktoons TV.
