Lewis vs. Vitali...

I'm watching the match right now...Lewis is getting his shots in but Jesus is Vitali whooping his ass.

Sad that this had to end the way ity did because of the $$$ that will be generated from the PPV rematch. NO WAY would the boxing world let a fight like this go all the way to a real ending on Cable. They need their 50 bucks per household of course.

Lewis got lucky, but don't say it was a fix, that eye was gonna damn near fall out or just close completly.

I'd like to see, at the least, the rematch and then a match vs. Roy Jones before Lewis retires. Byrd is just "eh" to me. And I don't know if Tyson and Holyfield can even be classifed as boxers at this point.

Couldn't Kirk Johynson argue his way into a title shot first seeing how he was the inital contender?

The problem is with boxing you only got 6 guys to work with and you cant get all those matches in...

Lewis is too much a pussy to fight all those guys and will strech the title run as long as he can...

And so my response is, this rematch is probably NEVER going to happen. And frankly, I feel it's bullshit that they pulled the fight without going to the scorecard, because frankly, Vitali had the fucking full out decision.

Big double turn last night. Lewis was hinting a heel turn for some time but Vitaly Klitschko turning baby face, that was a surprise. I think with some more tune up fights Vitaly's little brother Wladimir could easily take out Lewis.

If the ref stops this fight rather than the doctor, Vitali wins since they go to the cards in that situation.

If any boxing fan out there, after seeing the fight saturday honestly wants to see Lewis/Jones before Lewis/V. Klitschko 2 than I would have to question your fandom for the sport.

Vitali won the pro-Lewis crowd over by basically embarrasing Lewis. I am not sure if Lewis was being an asshole or if he is just in his delusional fantasy world when he kept spouting off(post fight) that he was ready to knock him out, and it was only a matter of time. When he watches the tape, he will clearly see he could barely stand up. Vitali had been saying the past 2 weeks he saw a weakness if Lewis's style and he sure wasn't lying. Plus Vitali took Lewis's power without flinching. Oh Well, here's hoping a rematch for November/December is scheduled. Looks like the replay is coming on now......

Oh and just to add another tidbit. Vitali had to chase Lewis for 2 years for this fight, Kirk Johnson had NO BUSINESS getting the shot over Vitali. Can anyone honestly say Vitali didn't deserve this shot?

That's a mistake. The rule is that if the cut happens ACCIDENTALLY, the fight goes to the cards. If the cut happens due to a punch, then its a TKO.

I am not all a boxing "expert"...

Does Don King happen to manage Lewis? Cuz that would explain this...

Anyways...

Does this help Jones or not?

I figure that Lewis is afraid of Kltichsko now and would rather take Jones then Klitchsko...

As great at Jones/Lewis would be as an Draw...Fans will shit on it if Klitchsko is screwed outta his shot...

And can anyone tell me if Chris Byrd and Lewis have beef or something? Because I found it odd he got in the press conference and said

"You looked like crap, Lewis" ?

The sad thing is? We gotta wait until November to get any sort match...but it doesn't matter...Lewis the heel will retire.

ok Chris Byrd is a tactiful fighter. A fight with him wouldn't draw flies, becase no one wants to watch a "stick N move" style. Not suggesting it isn't effective. Wlad beat the shit out of Chris Byrd and Vitali was beating the shit out of him too but tore his shoulder out and had to quit after 9 rounds in which he was winning handedly.

Byrd is just mad cause he feels he keeps getting passed over. I personally don't think Lennox is afraid of Byrd, but he knows there is little money in that kind of fight and at his older age, he probably wants to make as much $$$ as possible.

For me personally, I feel that a rematch better be Lewis's next fight or the heavyweight divsion will once again be questioned for legitimacy.

Two problems with that (although you are correct about the rule itself):

1. The "punch" was more of a lacing of the gloves, and accidental or not is technically illegal.

2. Look at the replay closely. They BUTT heads immediately after that "punch", and there is no blood until after the headbutt.

Either way the decision's bullshit. Lewis at one point got ten shots to the ribs while holding Klitschko behind the head (illegal), plus Lewis wore a freaking beard for the fight (also illegal).

My real question is who's the bigger heel right now: Lewis for cheating the entire fight and being a cocky son of a bitch or the referee for allowing two blatant infractions?

And did the referee ever check that cut before the referee "suggested" he stop the fight?

Sadly, until the bullshit finish, that was the sort of fight the heavyweight division needed to regain credibility. Until the bullshit finish.

If Klitschko or his corner don't say anything about the beard before the fight, then its a non-issue. Its really nit-picking. I don't think Lewis flagrently cheats. Its not like he's Andrew Golota out there.

Chris Byrd deserves a title shot. Ring Magazine's got him rated #1 for god knows how long now. I understand giving Vitali a shot, but there is no fucking way Kirk Johnson should have ever deserved a title shot. Hell, I'd rather see Byrd fight Lewis then all but about 4 fighters, because Byrd would have a shot at winning.

Is it just me or is it SUSPECT that Tyson gets arrested the week of a MAJOR fight?

Not at all...Tyson was told to get arrested to get attention.

I say it again. Holding the back of the head and getting in ten shots to the ribs. Pretty blatant in my book.

The beard may be nitpicking, but it could also open up the cut the way Lewis was lacing the side of Vitali's head with it, so it is an issue.

If Vitali's corner doesn't raise hell before the fight, its their own damn fault.

I'm not a Lewis fan. You could be 100% right on all accounts. But when I see an argument phraised that way, bias pops right into my head. Just my cynicalism talking I guess.

The rule for wearing a beard is that you cannot have one that can act to cushion a blow. I distinctly remember them discussing this rule during Tua/Rachman because Tua was wearing a full and long goatee.

And can anyone tell me if Chris Byrd and Lewis have beef or something? Because I found it odd he got in the press conference and said

"You looked like crap, Lewis" ?

After Roy Jones beat Ruiz, Antonio Tarver started beaking off during Jones' press conference about "Jones is ducking me" and shit like that. Jones promised that before he retires, "his ass will be mine".

Basically I think the commissions are making sure these guys get into the press conferences so they can get the PPV buyers into an upcoming match or a match that could happen somehwere down the line. Create a little intrigue.

I agree 100% about Lewis blatantly holding Vitali in the back of the head and getting in about 5-7 big shots to the ribs while the ref is standing there watching it. Why were the two not broken up beforehand?

Also, I am disgusted by Lewis's "sure a rematch, I will bust up the other side of his face" comments when if you look at Lewis's face, he has a big cut on the bridge of his nose and a few others scattered about the face. Lewis was talking too much shit. His, "oh Vitali is glad the ref stopped it cause I was gonna finish him in another round or two" comments were nausiating, considering Lewis couldn't even stand up after the 6th round and collapsed to his stool at the conclusion.

I believe that Vitali could have gone all 12 or even knocked Lennox out, given how tired Lennox looked. And I was damn well pissed when the fight was stopped. But, as much as I want to believe it, the finish wasn't bullshit. It sure wasn't what I or anyone for that matter wanted to see, but it wasn't bullshit. Vitali's left eye was fucked all to hell, and damn near had chunks of flesh coming off of it. Seriously brutal. I can definitely understand the stopping of the match, as unfortunate as it was.

Now, as for Lennox's comments, I think he knows how to market a future fight. I think Lennox's entire persona when in the public eye is meant to generate controversy for a future fight. And, shit, Lennox was way in character when Merchant interviewed him. Who the hell DOESN'T want to see Lennox get his ass whomped at this point? I think it's kind of odd that everyone takes boxing for a giant fix and is always ready to say "bullshit finish," but when a guy like Lennox says some of the things he did, they take it deadly serious.

Posted

I think Lennox will try to go with the bout versus Jones first and then a re-match. Whoever it is I do not think he will retire after one, because as long as he wins his next match (if its aginst Roy or Vitali) there will be too much money on the table for the other bout to simply walk away.

Had they stopped the fight after the third round, I don't think I've have been too pissed with the stoppage, but when nobody looked at the cut until the bleeding had essentially stopped and Klitschko wasn't the one clinching every time he got hit, there's no way the fight should have been stopped when it was.

I've seen worse cuts and the fight continue.

And those weren't HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHTS WHERE THE MAN WITH THE CUT WAS CLEARLY WINNING.

It all smells funny to me.

After 2 years of screaming for this fight, I feel vindicated a little. I got lots of calls from friends who called me crazy for thinking that Vitali could hang with Lewis. I'm still pissed at the ending, but the eye did look bad. AND I have seen cuts worse than that and the fight continue. I'm not sure what to think outside of Lewis being a dickhead after getting his ass whooped. Its worse than Evander saying he felt he won that first Lewis fight. Come on, you're not fooling anyone.

What a great fight! I knew Lewis woukd how up out of shape because he looked down on Kirk Johnson and the Klitschko brothers. I was going to bash Lewis on this post but I think he showed why he is THE man by hanging with the younger, hungrier and more prepared Klitschko. If Vitali had some more strength, he would've knocked Lewis out sooner but he allowed the champ to disect his face which allowed a third party to decide the outcome of the fight.

I hope there's a rematch and I hope its at Staples again because if it was anything like this fight, I'm there!

I just saw the replay yesterday, and Vitaly had his ass. However, his eye was a fucking catastrophe, so I agreed with the stoppage.

Lewis doesn't really have any choice about a rematch now, unless he wants to commit career suicide. Believe it or not, the guy actually fights contenders, as well as chumps. I also like the interesting little stat before the start of the match, when Buffer announced that he's beat everyone he's ever faced, counting rematches.

Their rematch is going to look a lot like the 2nd fight with Rahman. Lewis knows he's vulnerable, and he'll train accordingly now, no matter how cocky he comes across. Have you ever seen a winning fighter act any other way? Especially a really rich heavyweight. Post fight interviews fall into one of four categories

1. Cockiness

2. False Humility

3. Garbled Gibberish

4. Jesus

Lewis is always cocky in post match interviews though. I think it’s the British side of him. I think he could have a big money match with Roy Jones first and then take on both Klitschko brothers. After that, I see a Tyson rematch and retirement if he wins all these fights.

(I just realized that I went over 1000 posts. Whew)

Rahman- pretty much untalented bum that got a lucky punch in because of Lewis's cockiness

Klitcko(I know, I always spell it wrong)- BOXER with actual TALENT.

It won't be a Rahman/Lewis II because Rahman isn't a good boxer, Vladimer is. And to say that Vladimer was more prepared than Lewis although they both only had 3 weeks to prepare is ridiculous. Lewis came out, got out boxed and lucked up that he got the cut over the eye. Lewis had NO legs left and Vladimer did. Lennox would have gone down in another round or two.

Lewis has sat around for the past 2 years not fighting the top contenders and going for the money matches. Not to say that I blame him, but he doesn't fight the most talented boxers. Rahman, Kirk Johnson, Tyson...these guys shouldn't have been near a title shot while guys like Byrd, and the Klitchkos have been sitting there waiting.

Not to be a dick or anything but I think Vitaly was the one who fought Lewis and his younger brother is Vladimir, who got knocked out by Corey ______ from South Africa in his last match.
