Ok, I admit that they are the Yankees of Football, but seriously are they funded by the Spanish Government? Cause like, DAMN! I wish I was only so lucky to own a team of any sort that is funded by the government of the country that I live in.
Guest Insane Bump Machine Report post Posted June 18, 2003 OK, first of all: calling Hierro great nowadays has to be a joke. He's old and slow and should hang it up already. Real's defense will still suck ass next year, because they just don't give a shit. They won't dominate everything like some of you are saying, Beckham or not. Everyone said that they would crush every opponent when they signed Ronaldo, and which teams were in the Champion's League final this year? Exactly. Are they a good team? Oh yeah, no doubt. When they're on, they are ON! But they also have some pretty glaring weaknesses, and will lose their fair share of games.
Guest the 1inch punch Report post Posted June 18, 2003 Hierro, Raul, Ronaldo, Beckham, Figo, Carlos, Zidane... Hierro is tool old to mean anything Raul, well, ok, Raul is great Ronaldo has done nothing to justify his fee Beckham, jury is out i suppose Figo wont be around for too much longer and hasnt really settled in Madrid Carlos is a defender Zidane is getting on a bit So, yeah...what an awesome team
Guest HungryJack Report post Posted June 18, 2003 I find myself doubting Becks will be able to handle the pace of spanish football, as he's used to playing in the Premiereship. That said, I'm sad to see him go, but it will be a sight to see the next time Man Utd. plays Real in the Chapions League.
Guest caboose Report post Posted June 21, 2003 Hierro is tool old to mean anything I love the way people use age as an excuse to put players down. He still has the skills otherwise he wouldn't still be captain. Raul, well, ok, Raul is great No argument here. Ronaldo has done nothing to justify his fee So scoring 20+ goals in a season and destroying Man utd at Old Trafford was nothing? It was his first season, the hype was in overdrive and you can't just dominate a team that is built around Raul. Beckham, jury is out i suppose Yeah we will wait and see... Figo wont be around for too much longer and hasnt really settled in Madrid I don't here any transfer talk about him. Settled? Thats just comparing to his best which I admit he didn't hit this season. But then lesser players have come back from poor seasons to rock the owrld again. Carlos is a defender Congratulations you understand basic football positions. Carlos is the most attacking minded defender on the planet and he doesn't pull out of any tackles either. He'll be good this season. Zidane is getting on a bit And what do you mean by that? Alan Shearer is 34 and just had a 25 goal season. Age don't mean squat if you've got the talent and the fitness. And this last season Zidane was running matches by himself. So, yeah...what an awesome team Yeah it is. The team is still awesome.
Guest Mr. Adam Report post Posted June 22, 2003 Has anone here ever seen Beckham beat a player? As in run at them and take it arounf them? Anything worthwhile other than crosses and free kicks? Too much in fighting means that Real won't win the Champions League this season. semis at best. Sounds nuts I know but look at all the players gunning for the midfield. Look at Raul, he is the David Beckham of Spanish football. The looks, endorsements and cheering women. But with skills. Beckham will be very overshadowed, unhappy and his career is gonna take a Paul Gascoine after this season.
Guest caboose Report post Posted June 22, 2003 Has anone here ever seen Beckham beat a player? As in run at them and take it around them? I've seen Beckham dribble past three players and score with the outside of his foot. Against who? Real Madrid in the Quarter Finals of the Champions League. Anything worthwhile other than crosses and free kicks? When you can cross, pass and take free kicks like David Beckham, your a gifted footballer. Add his vision, workrate and determintation and you have a world class football player. Which is exactly what David Beckham is. Beckham will be very overshadowed, unhappy and his career is gonna take a Paul Gascoigne after this season. Thats a pessimistic outlook at best. Lets see what he does this season before we proclaim him a failure.
Guest Insane Bump Machine Report post Posted June 22, 2003 I love the way people use age as an excuse to put players down. He still has the skills otherwise he wouldn't still be captain. It's not his age, it's the fact that he's SLOW AS HELL. I've seen plenty of fast players run circles around him. He's almost as bad as Matthaus in 2000. And damn, that IS bad. He's still captain because of his name and his status, not because he's still a great player.

Of all the clubs in the world, Real Madrid would be the first to get rid of a captain that wasn't performing. The fans, club and President are too fickle. If Hierro still didn't have any worth he would have been gone by now and Raul would be sporting that captain's arm band.

Guest caboose Report post Posted June 22, 2003 Being captain brings a certain expectation. And if Hierro didn't live up to it, the press and fans would be all over him like stink on poo.

rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2003 The only questions I have is... what is up with the names of these teams? Is there a reason for the names Manchester United and Real Madrid etc? Serious question. Real is Spanish for royal. Therefore Real Madrid = Royal Madrid, the side of the Spanish royalty. I'm not sure about the United thing, but I remember hearing somewhere that Man. Utd. was formed from the shadows of Man. City. I might be wrong though. Also, I can't see Beckham lasting long at Real. He's gonna be second choice for set-pieces behind Carlos, I can't see him being quick to learn Spanish (I might be wrong), and he's not gonna be a traditional Liga winger. The reason Beckham is so highly rated is his wife, his crossing and free-kicks and the fact that he is more skillful than most in the Premier league. At Real, he might be overshadowed, and I can't see him liking that, especially if the fickle Real fans start turning on him.
Guest caboose Report post Posted June 23, 2003 At Real, he might be overshadowed, and I can't see him liking that, especially if the fickle Real fans start turning on him. I think beckham can cope with the fickle nature of the Real crowd. Remember he did go from being the most hated man in England in 1998 to England's lord and saviour by 2001. Maybe, but how much of that was him, and how much of it was the media? Granted he's grown up, but he's still got that petulant side. Like whenever he chases the ball all over the pitch when England are losing, like he's the only person who can make a difference. Sorry, I don't like Beckham. Guest caboose Report post Posted June 23, 2003 Maybe, but how much of that was him, and how much of it was the media? Well seeing as the media ripped him to shreds, I'd give the credit to Beckham. Granted he's grown up, but he's still got that petulant side. Like whenever he chases the ball all over the pitch when England are losing, like he's the only person who can make a difference. Probably because 9/10 he is the only player who can make a difference for England. And since when did determination become a bad attribute? Sorry, I don't like Beckham. No need to apologise, I used to hate him, but he has won me over,
