OFFICIAL~! Release Date For FFX-2

Recommended Posts

Square Enix of America is set to release Final Fantasy X-2 for the PlayStation2 on the 3rd of November. Mark that day down RPG fans, as Nintendo of American has also announced that they will be releasing their Square Enix title for the GameCube, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles on the same day!! Gamers will be spoilt for choice, but who will come out tops? Given the immense success of Final Fantasy X in North America and the interest in its sequel, it may not be too smart a choice to release Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles on the same day. We'll see though, after all, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles hasn't even been released in Japan yet.

I've sooo gotta start saving up ^_^

OK nice to see that date be confirmed as official. Now that I finished Dark Cloud 2 and I don't know if I'll EVER wade my way through Xenosaga, I need another good RPG. I suppose I can wait another 4 1/2 months.

All the spirit and creativity of this franchise is gone, replaced with an incessant need to milk the name to the fanboys that rose in the "PlayStation Generation."

As an old-schooler, I feel lost and sad at this kind of crap.

Oh come on.... Though I will say that Square jumped the shark in a big way when they released that CGI movie that had NOTHING to do with the actual game, I wouldn;t say that Square has lost *total* sight of what made them famous in the first place...

Although I have yet to play FFX in earnest (though I might as well, as I spend too much time online as it is), I will be interested to see what they do with FF X-2. I know my roommates will be buying it, thats for sure.

I would say the opposite. The original through V are soulless shells of RPGs with no real heart or interesting characters. The gameplay is overly simplistic and instead of actually having challenging and interesting battles the baddies rely on sheer power, forcing you to just level up to survive.

Once VI hit they actually started making battles entertaining to play and look at and the stories stopped being extremely basic "this is the bad guy, get the crystal~!" stories.

Square hasn't totally lost my faith, I loved Kingdom Hearts and Chrono Cross.

But FF jumped the shark in a big way when it turned into a graphics exhibition and all the knights and castles and dragons disappeared for angry depressed teenagers saving various futuristic worlds.

That covers VII (which was alright) and VIII (which was crap). Have you played IX or X?

Having seen FFI and II for PS (but not bought it), I have to agree. That doesn't change the fact that X-2 is a shameless ode to fangirls. Of course, you can just call that pandering to your audience, as the hardcore players probably have abandoned the series by now.

FFIII (VI Japan) was my favorite of the series. FFVII was superior in graphics and sound but stripped down in all other aspects. Fewer secrets, too many movies, I actually was happy when Aerith was killed, and near the end of the game it seemed the last part of the game was just slapped on in a rush.

The end boss was awesome, and it's still a good game, but afterwards I had no desire to replay it, and since have only played IX.

The early ones sucked and were massively overrated, though.

After playing Arc 3 (still working my way through it), Arc 4 better be fucking better.

Anyone play Unlimited Saga? It just came out. I went to Game Rankings.com and the game bombed, but I wanna hear people's opinions on it.

Sorry to all the X-2 people, but there's only so much you can do with the OFFICIAL release date.

I heard it was horrible, so I refuse to pay $50 for it, and I don't really rent games, So I won't be playing it for awhile.

I've already got my copy reserved and I'm currently trying to get through 10 since I've always died during the final battle previously.

Thank God startegy guides are readily available.

After going through FFX I really don't know if I want another turn based RPG in the near future.

Unlimited SaGa doesn't look too bad. I already know it has one of the greatest soundtracks ever. It probably isn't worth 50 bucks, like most PS2 games, but the fact that so many "reviewers" hated it is reason enough to play it. I know it won't be that bad once you get the hang of it, challenge isn't that bad.

It's not exactly a spectacular milestone in Final Fantasy either in sales, fandom, or technology.

Plus there's the whole "everybody is wearing a lot less clothes than they did last time" thing.

I think the selling point for Final Fantasy X-2, at least in the United States, is that it's the first FF that's been released in 2 years

Wouldn't that be for male fans?

I'm not the guy who made the fangirl comment, I'm just demonstrating how they've been pandering to dweebs.

To me the Final Fantasy series reminds me of Saturday Night Live... the best damn thing on TV allowed to go on for far too long and become a crappy hollow mockery of itself. I tend to agree with the FF7 sentiments, good game but not my fav and the beginning of the end. FF7 is like the Dana Carvey years on SNL. Not much at all compared to the past but after watching this shit they put on today it's easy to reminisce and think of it as a great time.

I just wish they'd stop. Every new mediocre FF game they put out pangs my wonderful childhood memories. Are FF 8 and 9 games or just full motion videos you get to walk through? The FF SNES games that it feels like every old-schooler gushes on about aren't just the games of our youth.. these are the games that put Final Fantasy and Square on the map. They did that because they were good.

The series is moving in a direction that bothers some people (lots of FMVs, story heavy, more like an interactive movie.) One place the series isn't moving at all though is storyline. Yeah, I know the stories were never interconnected but it's getting to the point where it's pure meaningless fluff. Even if they are all great games putting the Final Fantasy XXX tag on it just makes it seem stale to me. It's come to the point where the name is meaningless... make a game, throw in the word Chocobo, and slap FF on the title.. instant hit.

Or maybe to put it another way.. for fuck's sakes I wish they'd just get over it. Final Fantasy was a great game years ago, but the longer you strech something out the cheaper and more meaningless it gets. ala SNL.

Hey Jobber, FFX was a wonderful game, way better than most of the final fantasys on the SNES (If you're counting Mystical Quest ;) )

No one really liked FF8, that's not exactly surprising. But if you haven't played FFX you can't really diss the new games. Sure there are cons to the game (those eternal paths) but I'm sure I could think of a few problems with Final Fantasy 3 if you gave me an hour to think and FF2 was the drizzling shits so...

The "girls' road trip" style atmosphere, a goofy/less serious tone to the storyline and writing, playing dress up with the characters, and having a pop singer as a job class seems to indicate that.

I did. In fact, FF8 is the game that got me wanting a PS1, and got me hooked on the FF series in general. I was over at my sister's house and her friend had brought over the game. We had to leave soon after, but I was able to see the intro vid and I was instantly hooked. In fact, when I get some birthday money, I'll be buying a PS1 memory card just to play my old Final Fantasies again. ^_^

Yeah, true. I think it's cool though. What's the problem with making a more light hearted, female centric game?

I like FF VIII. I think it's the second best in the series.

I am glad Square moved towards FMV and "interactive movie" stuff. It rules. It makes the games more of an experience. That is exactly what I want in a RPG.

Like everyone puts FF IV over but I don't see why. The gameplay is extremely simple. It's like a NES game. You can't even change spells or anything. The entire strategy of the game is to level up enough to be able to beat bosses. The story, especially the Kain/Cecil thing, is soooo overhyped. Everyone gushes about how great it is and when I played it I was left with this "so that's it?" feeling. "Emotional scenes" from their "saga" are like...

*Kain turns good again after being evil for a while*

Cecil: Kain!!!!

Kain: Sorry about before, I am good again.

Cecil: Okay.

*the end*

And the number 1 hyped game, FF VI, might as well be one of the PSX titles. Everyone hypes it up and says how it's their masterpiece when it's JUST like a modern day one, except they couldn't use FMV back then. The easy gameplay, the story heavy plot. If Terra turning into an esper and flying away was done in FMV would that game then suck? If people like VI they shouldn't complain about VII, VIII, IX and X.

Thank God. There are others like me. I too enjoyed FFVIII, and, as a matter of fact, I liked it more than FF IX.

FFVII got me hooked. Probably the greatest game I had played up until that point. I was never really into RPGs, but the story for VII just grabbed a hold of me.

FFX was, IMO, great as well.

Played it. It felt even more incredibly short with the lack of a world map.

What's with all the FF8 love here? It wasn't about saving the world, it was about a love story over saving the world, and the characters were... The battle system also blew because magic became useless. Players would attatch 99 Ultimas to their strength rating then refuse to cast Ultima because it'd lower their stats. Same thing with HP and cure spells.

The "everyone is from the same nursery" thing is the most ludicrious plot twist I'd ever seen and almost made me want to bang my head into a wall the first time I played through the game. The whole plot felt like the ramblings of some sappy 17 year old's diary.

I disagree, I recently finished VIII and IX, and am going back through IV right now. And you know what, I'm having a much better time playing through IV again. The basic story is good (though as you say, not great), none of the "everybody can cast Ultima" crap in the battle system, the music is the best ever even w/o an orchestra, and I actually care about the characters. The new ones have prettier graphics and more details to the conversations, but they lack the soul the earlier ones had. And IV > VI > VII > *.

I love the Squall/Rinoa stuff in FF VIII. "Eyes on Me" is awesome and the ending makes me all emotional.

I don't care about the characters in IV or V much. I barely know them. Kain is just some guy who turns from heel to face for no real reason and never really does anything. It's like, Kain turning on Cecil is supposed to be intense or something but I never knew them. They're both just generic RPG knights.

I can't say I agree or disagree with the comments on IV/V since I haven't played it, but I can agree with the Squall/Rinoa SL. Eyes on Me was, and still is, a beautiful song. The only thing that could surpass that moment in the airship is the "Suteki da Ne" FMV sequence in FFX. Then again, I'm 16-about-to-be-17-in-a-week, so I enjoy those kinds of games.
