Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted June 23, 2003 (edited) I just came back from a Smackdown house show at the Giant Center in Hershey, PA. Here is a recap of what happened. Chimel announced that Brock Lesnar would not be appearing due to a leg injury, which angered the crowd. Refunds were offered up until the begining of the third match. Match 1: Torrie Wilson vs. Nidia: Sable was the guest ring announcer and Dawn Marie was the special guest referee. Nidia came out to almost no reaction, while Torrie came out to a large pop. A surprisingly decent match, including a nice Northern Lights Suplex by Nidia. Torrie hit a DDT on Nidia, but Dawn Marie put Nidia’s foot on the rope before attempting to make the count. Torrie got into an argument with Dawn about it, which allowed Nidia to win the match with a rollup after a fast count from Dawn Marie. Torrie got a bit of revenge after the match by ripping off Nidia’s top and Dawn Marie’s pants. Winner: Nidia via pinfall Match 2: Billy Kidman & Spanky vs. Shannon Moore & Crash: Kidman now has a short haircut. Crash came out wearing a Hershey’s Kiss hat, as did Spanky. Shannon and Crash did the V1 hand sign which got boos from the fans. Kidman responded by flipping off the MFers. The match was somewhat slow paced, with a lot of restholds. Kidman got the pin on Shannon Moore after hitting what I can only describe as a Kryptonite Crunch into an X-Factor. Winners: Kidman & Spanky via pinfall Match 3: Orlando Jordan vs. Jamie Noble: Orlando came out to silence. Noble didn’t get much of a reaction either. Orlando introduced himself to the crowd then got a cheap pop by saying that he was glad to be in Hershey, PA. A typical Velocity-type match, with Noble getting the clean win by coming out on top after a pinfall reversal sequence. Winner: Jamie Noble via pinfall Match 4: John Cena vs. Billy Gunn: Cena came out to a mixed reaction. Cena did some nice mic work, insulting the fans and saying that the Phillies sucked. Billy was accompanied to the ring by Torrie Wilson. Cena managed to get the win after a Flair pin in the corner. Afterwards, Billy hit the Fame Asser on Cena. Winner: John Cena via pinfall Match 5: Rikishi & Rhyno vs. F.B.I: Rikishi got the win by sitting down on Stamboli during a sunset flip attempt. After the match was over, Nunzio tried to sneak attack Rikishi but stopped when he got caught. Nunzio tried to back out of the ring, but walked into Rhyno. Rhyno nailed Nunzio, setting him up for a stinkface. After the FBI left, Rikishi picked out a couple of kids from the crowd to come into the ring to dance. Winners: Rikishi & Rhyno via pinfall Intermissiion: It was announced that the Giant Center would be the venue for WWE Unforgiven. Match 6: Eddie Guerrero & Tajiri vs. Sean O'Haire & A-Train: At one point, Tajiri shouted out “Fuck you” to O’Haire, which got a large pop from the crowd. After a heel miscommunication spot, Tajiri sprayed the green mist into A-Train’s face and followed up with a kick to the head, allowing Eddie to hit the frog splash for the win. Winners: Eddie & Tajiri via pinfall Match 7: Rey Mysterio vs. Matt Hardy: A pretty decent match, but nowhere near the level of their past two matches on Smackdown. Rey got the win following a 619-springboard legdrop combination. Winner: Rey Mysterio via pinfall Main Event: Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit vs. Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin, and The Big Show: Haas & Benjamin were introduced as "The Best Damn Tag Team Period." Angle and Haas started off the match with some mat wrestling, with Angle getting the advantage. Haas tagged in Benjamin. In a comedy spot, Angle and Benjamin repeatedly criss-crossed the ropes (think Hogan-Warrior). Angle quickly slid out of the ring, while Benjamin continued to run the ropes by himself, eventually knocking Haas off the apron by accident. Show finally got Benjamin to stop and the match continued. At one point in the match, Show had Benoit in a bearhug, which Angle broke by using a testicular claw. In the end, Angle forced Haas to tap out to the Anklelock. Winners: Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit by submission Aftermath: Angle called Show back out to the ring. Show asked why Angle had grabbed his penis during the match. Angle replied by saying that he did it to save Benoit. Angle also said that although he doesn't grab a lot of other men's penises, that Show's was the biggest one that he had ever grabbed. Angle then said that although he grabbed Show's penis and tapped Benoit on the ass (after the match), he isn't gay. Show said that he believed him, since screwing in a lightbulb doesn't make you an electrician. Angle then challenged Show to an impression contest. Angle went first, imitating Show. Angle asked Show if he could guess who that was, and Show said "me." Show went next, and did his Hulk Hogan impression. Show then said that although Kurt imitated him, that he wouldn't able to imitate Kurt, since Kurt had abs, while he had a gut. Show continued, saying that his gut was good for one thing, which is an impression of Fat Bastard. Angle replied that Show was already a fat bastard. Angle and Benoit quickly ran out of the ring, but Angle returned after Show laughed it off. Show then did his Fat Bastard impression and told Benoit to get in his belly. Benoit started to walk away from ringside, but Angle invited him back to the ring. Once Benoit came back in, Angle asked Benoit to tap him on the ass. Benoit refused, which caused Angle to lead the crowd in a "tap that ass" chant. After a bit of stalling, Benoit quickly touched Kurt's ass then walked out of the ring. Angle called Benoit back, joking that it wasn't much of a tap and that Benoit should do it over. Benoit didn't want to, and went to the back. After Benoit left, Show returned to the back as well, leaving Angle alone in the ring. Angle then thanked everyone for coming, and led the crowd in a "U-S-A!" chant to close the show. Overall, a good show which I felt was worth what I had spent. Feedback and questions are welcome. And calling Haas and Benjamin the best damn tag team period is probably going to probably draw the ire of FOX..
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted June 23, 2003 LOL @ Angle/Benoit...did Benoit leave like he was pissed off that Angle was trying to make him touch his ass again, or was he laughing when he left?

Guest Nanks Report post Posted June 23, 2003 Did they seriously name Haas & Benjamin The Best Tag Team Period?!?! That has seriously been stolen from this board. Was that name announced somewhere before it started getting used here??? That's massive!! Quick, pin the 1000 reasons BossMan is better than Goldberg thread in all the folders so they can see it
Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 23, 2003 Nope...This is the first instance of WWE using the Name... They also stole about 3 of my Creative Ideas (NOT THE GOOD ONES mind you...) again I STRESS "HIDE THE BILLY GUNN THREADS!"
Guest Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Report post Posted June 23, 2003 If in those Billy Gunn threads there is any talk about anything other than how to get him to destroy his shoulder again, then we, TSM are not doing our jobs properly and thusly we deserve anything that comes to us. Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted June 23, 2003 LOL @ Angle/Benoit...did Benoit leave like he was pissed off that Angle was trying to make him touch his ass again, or was he laughing when he left? From what I could tell, Benoit was laughing, but trying to keep a straight face.

Sadly...Like IDIOTS we gave them about 10035 *BAD* ideas on what to do with Gunn... Let's just hope they scrolled past the "Put Gunn over Lesnar and unify the Betls with HHH at WMXX" post... Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted June 23, 2003 Billy Gunn was frighteningly over. When my friend and I refused to chant for him during a resthold, the two fans behind us asked why we weren't cheering for him. My response was that I liked Cena and hated Gunn. The kids thought that was stupid, since Billy Gunn is good and Cena insulted us. My friend replied by saying "I don't live in Hershey, and the Phillies do suck". If this crowd is any indication, don't be surprised if Billy Gunn wins the (uh, nevermind, I don't want to give out any bad ideas). Haas & Benjamin being introduced as "The Best Damn Tag Team Period" surprised me as well. Interesting note about Haas & Benjamin: they came out to some generic music (HHH's music at Backlash '99) instead of the theme from this past week's Smackdown. Personal notes from the show: Fans in Hershey are mostly sheep, at least in the section that I sat (floor seats). My friend and I got the strangest looks when he cheered heels such as Noble, Cena, MFers, Matt Hardy, and Haas & Benjamin. If the house show was any indication, don't expect any clever chants at Unforgiven.

Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted June 23, 2003 ^ Damn It! Philly Mutants BETTER start buying tickets... That's exactly what I was thinking. Without Philly mutants, it will be a bitch to try to get fans in Hershey to chant "Y2J" or "Goldberg sucks." You probably shouldn't expect too many clever signs as well. To be fair, last night was only a house show, but signs were there anyway. Signs in my section included things like: "Brock Rocks", "You Suck", "Rikishi is the best", "Big Show is fat", "Billy kicks ass", and "I hate you."
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted June 23, 2003 Hershey likes Billy Gunn? WTF?
Guest Goodear Report post Posted June 23, 2003 Oh no, you mean the crowd didn't try to be all cool and start "You Fucked Up" chants and have a bunch of signs (that no one is going to see at a House Show)? OH NO! Whatever will happen to the world?
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted June 23, 2003 Oh no, you mean the crowd didn't try to be all cool and start "You Fucked Up" chants and have a bunch of signs (that no one is going to see at a House Show)? OH NO! Whatever will happen to the world? That's not exactly what I meant. I meant that the fans seemed to only cheer the faces and stared at you as if you were dumb if you cheered any heels at all. I know that signs at a house show are pointless, but that didn't stop people from bringing them anyway. I myself don't make or bring signs to shows even if they're televised. I was just pointing it out to people who do care and plan to order Unforgiven.

Murmuring Beast 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2003 That's hardly what you call a push. Besides, The Rock had faded out of the main-event at that time.

Guest Choken One Report post Posted June 23, 2003 Billy Kidman doesn't fit the profile of a Gunn partner... This will be the first time Billy had to carry the team with the promos then (Rico carried both in the last one)
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted June 23, 2003 THAT WAS A PUSH! THEY THREW HIM THE KOTR and then shoved him in the UPPER UPPER CARD! THAT IS A FUCKING PUSH! Don't forget that Gunn also scored a singles win over The Rock on an episode of Raw, albeit with interference. But then again, what match didn't have interference in '99?
