2 things here, before you vote consider that Pat Patterson stooged off the Sharpshooter spot to Vince. With all that taken into consideration Pat gets my vote

How about... Earl Hebner?

He promised to be with him... he was the one who called for the bell.

I decided on Vince, but the Patterson reference to screwing bret is funny about a million different ways.

I also went with Vince for the same reason as Si82. He was in control the entire time.

You know... I want to know why people think Bret screwed Bret.

I really want to know a good reason.

Vince screwed Bret. He planned it all out and he pulled the trigger as someone already said.

I think it was a combo of Bret-Shawn-Brisco-Vince.

Bret: He was paranoid about Vince, then let it slide, at that moment BAM!. He should've dropped the belt. Yes I know Shawn refused to do drop to Bret, but Shawn wasn't leaving Bret was, it's tradition.

Shawn: He knew, he lied.

Brisco: He knew.

Vince: DUH

Earl Hebner/Time Keeper: To me they were just doing there job, did nothing wrong.

Patterson: He knew the finish just not the screw job. Remember Pat is Canadian.

HHH: I Don't know if he knew.

Hunter seemed more in control of the situation than Shawn after the match.

I disagree. I say Vince screwed Bret. But this won't get us anywhere.

Bret, the employee, refused to job. Vince, the owner, reacted in the worst possible way.

What Bret tried to do wasn't "within reason." He started the wheels in motion.

I can understand him not wanting to job his last match in the WWF to a jackass who got out of jobbing to him. They could've just had Bret force Shawn to tap to the Sharpshooter and have Austin win the title the next night. Austin could've then dropped the IC belt. If not this, I believe there was a better way to handle the situation. I by no means think Vince was justified in his actions. If I was Bret I would've just retired in '96.

They were saving Austin for Mania

Besides, Bret was leaving. Shawn wasn't. It's not "within reason" for Bret to refuse to job to a perfectly valid title contender because he doesn't like him.

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I've had computer troubles ever since a recent thunderstorm.

McMahon told Bret he could leave any way he wanted. He told Bret he could leave with his head held up high. He lied. And Bret did not set the Montreal screw-job in motion, Shawn Michaels did. His faking of an injury to get out of jobbing was pathetic. But he wasn't punished, of course, because McMahon was too afraid to anger Shawn and risk losing him. McMahon's whole argument is based on the fact that he didn't want Bret to show up with the title on Nitro.

But Vince himself has stolen a champion of a promotion... twice. Remember Ric Flair with the big gold belt? How about Chris Benoit? McMahon is clearly a hypocrite.

The fact that Bret Hart refused to lay down for a credible title contender when asked since he was on his way out is enough for me.

Shawn Michaels did the same thing. Yet he was never punished.

Shawn Michaels was not leaving the company for the opposition within one week either.

Yes, and he used that to his advantage. He knew he could get away without being punished because Vince wouldn't risk him going down south.

I didn't bother reading any of your statements because on this subject I really don't care. When it comes down to it, it was Bret's fault.

That's your opinion, and I strongly disagree with it. While Bret does share some of the fault, he isn't the only one. I myself think McMahon should get most of the blame. I think it's BS that he thought there was no other way. He just wanted to bury a superstar leaving for WCW. He also wanted out of the 21 year contract HE gave Bret. The only reason he wanted to give Bret such a long contract was so he wouldn't go to WCW. But by the Attitude era he had no more use for Hart and wanted him to go.

In any case, McMahon is a hypocrite. He himself has had champions who hadn't lost the title in another promotion come into the WWF. Also, Shawn tried to do almost the same thing Bret did at WrestleMania against Steve Austin. He wanted to retire as champion and award the belt to Hunter. In conclusion, Vince screwed Bret, IMO.

I would put all of the above. Since I can't pick all of the above, it's fucking Vince.

Bret Hart told vince that he would forfeit the belt the next day on Raw. That's all vine had to do and none of this would've happened.

Uh actully no. Flair was fired so he went to Vince. Beniot walked out. So he didn't steal them, they just went to him.

Which is understanadle for the time period.

Yes, and Shawn refusing to job anywhere in the U.S. was perfectly fine...
