Someone please explain to me

Recommended Posts

I've had to watch this dude get a tremendous amount of tV time every single week since he made his debut. More TV time than the world champion and all the other top superstars week in and week out. It would be one thing if the gy was entertaining, but he cannot cut a promo or act for his life. He probably is even worse than Test with his dumb facial expressions and robotic speaking. If you saw Smackdown tonight and were paying attention to Zack Gowan while Vince Mcmahon was talking to him in the ring, you could see that it looks like he was trying to remember his lines instead of reacting what was being said to him.

I heard the guy can wrestle and even saw a match of his in TNA, but of course in the WWE you can't be pushed at what you're good at. In about 2-3 months now he has yet to have a match. Please spare me from this shitty angle, and shitty acting and lets see some more in ring action

I thought the promo he cut on Vince tonight was awesome. But you're right his acting skills need work, but I say in his case if they'd just put him in the ring and let him shine he'd get highly over.

The fans would absolutely love seeing a one legged kid do moves to someone. And this build up might actually make them care that he's doing those moves.

Problem is they've stuck him in a match with Big Show and Steph as his partner. It's like they want him to fail in his first match.

Someone please explain to me

Why Gowan get's so much damn TV time

Despite the request, I'm getting a feel you're more looking for people to echo your sentiments.

He's good publicity for a change, I guess.

I don't hate the angle by any stretch, but you could also probably chalk it up to Vince finding it more interesting than his viewers.

Why is he on TV so much? The honest answer is, HE"S GOT ONE FUCKING LEG. it's exploitive, it's sad, but it's true. Hogan, Nash, Flair-they had the "look" Gowan has a missing apendage, therefore he has the "look" to Vince, although his look is one of a dollar sign.

I've seen one match with the guy, & he's by far the greatest single legged wrestler i've seen in my wide experience of freaky guys with physical disabilities (insert Von Erich joke here), but that doesn't warrant the monster push.

RE: DAMMIT WRONG THREAD

Anywoo, I like that he can do promos. Otherwise, I'm not impressed yet.

The same reason why he got a contract: because he's got one leg.

I havent seen the guy as yet, but good luck to him, if Vince thinks he's dollar signs and he impresses next week, good luck to him.

He probably gets lots of TV time because it gives Vince an excuse to get his face on TV as well, any reason for a McMahon to be on TV is a good one to the WWE.

In the new observer it says the combined Vince McMahon/Gowan/Mr. America segment from the 6/12 smackdown gained over 1 million viewers and was a huge rating grabber in several markets raising the ratings in those markets as much as 2 points. So there is your reason.

I dont see Chris Benoit getting half page stories on the USA TODAY...Gowan is.

Zach is an Human interest story like no other...

The fact his apperence shot ratings up 2 full points in some markets indicate people are intrigued by this story...

It's the best POSTITIVE publiticy WWE gotten since well...ever.

Aside from the Sable/McMahon foolishness..

WWE has actually done GOOD for once...

Building up this kid as a GREAT story not just in wrestling but for Mainstream America..

Insteading of BLOWING the intrigue in the first shot...They made people go

"Whoa...Can this kid wrestle?" so you build up all this Hype...

Gowen's Character is much more beautiful and amazing then ANYTHING Benoit ever did.

There is not emotional attachment to Chris Benot whatsoever...

At least with Zach Gowan...His story makes the Mainstream care enough to pop large ratings...

Face it...Gowan is a good thing for WWE

Because Gowen's TV time ='s McMahon's TV time.

hell if you pay attention there was more Gowan TV time than Hogan time

since Mr.American vs McMahon was the original concept of the feud

now its Vince trying too figure out how to go to hell faster by picking on a seemingly Cripple kid.

I Hope Zack just One legged Rana him!

Which adds further proof to the theory that WWE/F = Circus.

Eh, losing a leg to cancer is far more noble and tragic than losing a thumb because you fucked the porn star wife of a guy with mafia connections. So as much as I'd like to see Messiah with a contract, I doubt it'll ever happen.

The only reason he is on tv is to get Vince....mmm... i mean Zack over. And anyway WWE is home of the handicap, that's why Nash and HGH are considered main eventers.

Actually, in a desperate attempt to get the media's attention, they can bring in The Messiah, and push his gimmick to the moon. Offensive? Maybe. But it's money in the bank!

Will this angle make any money?

Usually, I'm with you 100%.

Had this angle been booked properly from the start, then it could have made a lot of money in the beginning. If one of the first things that he did showed his athletic prowess with one leg, like an Asai Moonsault or a springboard dropkick, then the fans would have taken to the guy immediately.

However, this is the WWE we're talking about and they, of course, screwed it up. It IS still salvagable, however.

If they wanted to make his MSG debut memorable, what they should have done is instead of having Gowan low blow Vince (weakly), with Vince bent over with his ass out of his pants, Gowan should have taken his leg off and hit a springboard dropkick (which he can do) to Vince's ass. That would have gotten a major pop, I'll tell you that much.

Cool idea and have the FBI be the ones responsible for cutting his thumb. That will get them over b/c Taker's "rub" is not working.

I see all the points you guys are making, but I still say that this is just exploiting the poor kid. It's going to continue to be this way until he either finally starts wrestling and we see what all the hype is about or they stop pushing him and just let him wrestle without emphasizing the fact that he only has one leg.

He's just the flavor of the month. Remember when Spanky was given so much attention as he was trying to get a job? Now he's stuck on Velocity and tagging with Rikishi.

I think Gowan has ONE good match in him...one time where people will really care about him. After that, he's a one spot wonder. Think about it - he's like Chyna - if he wins it automatcially pushes the wrestler he beats down because they lost to the one legged man.

If they can get a Vince vs. Gowen or Vince Crony vs. Gown match on the PPV that people are about out of this and get some mainsteam coverage, I think they've done a good job.

(Of course, they are going to kill this all next week by putting him in with Big Show and Stephanie but I digress.)

Exactly, seeing a one-legged man wrestle is great.....for a few times, but then the novelty gets old. also, what does that mean to the guys he's beating? It makes them look like shit and drops their stock down. I would have much rather seen a guy like Kanyon, who's busted his ass in this business, and deserves a good angle, been given the slot, but what did Kanyon get. Absolutely nothing........And for the person that said noone would care about Benoit, i think you're wrong. The fans gave him a standing Ovation at Royal Rumble and WWE could have followed up on that. Make him continue to chase the title and finally win it, and then work in an angle where the Title is the most important thing in the world to him and he'll do anything to keep it.

Actually, the WWE would be doing the right thing here, if it wasn't for all the damn soap opera elements. Zack is an awesome story on his own, it doesn't need Vince whoring out his daughter to get heel heat. Hell, he's preventing a kid who lost his leg to cancer from achieving his dream. Isn't that heelish enough?

Anyway, I do think they're taking the right steps by building up interest in the Zack Gowan character before he steps in the ring. For example, in TNA, Zack just showed up, and while he wowed the crowd, people had no real attachment to him personally. Once he got his first match out of the way, that was it. Right now in the WWE, fans are wondering, "Can this guy actually wrestle?" When he finally does hit a one legged asai moonsault onto Vince, it's actually going to mean something.

I don't understand where this unfounded Chris Benoit hatred comes from. Don't hate him because he's better then the rest of the federation.

The fans can cheer Gowan all they want, but they haven't seen him wrestle yet. And Rudo is right, this angle will not make any money.

I doubt Messiah will ever be in the WWE. Once one light tube gets cracked over your back, your chances of working for the WWE are slim to none.

And yeah, what's with the random Chris Benoit hate? Choken, you're obviously just trying to stir shit up.

And I'll be honest, I'd rather watch a Benoit match than a Zach Gowan skit, because every Gowan skit has bad acting, and an overload of Hogan, the McMahons, and Sable.

Stupid humans.

However, the way I look at this, as a mark probably would, is that Zack got his ass kicked by VINCE FUCKING MCMAHON!! And this kids wants to wrestle?! It would seem that not giving him a contract would be the best thing for him, rather than throwing him to the lions.

This is not a bad way of going about things, but I think even marks are suspicious about this method because WWE uses it too often to disguise guys who can't work well, or at all.

Look at who they've had avoid wrestling so it will be "special" when they finally get in the ring: Steiner. Goldberg. Nash. The marks might be thinking Gowan sucks because of these precedents.

If I were them, I'd get him in the ring sooner rather than later.
