Guest JMA Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 Rico's Adrian Street gimmick is working for me. I think he's found the role he was meant to do. It also keeps Jackie out of the ring. She works better as eye candy.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 It's not really Rico's fault that the gimmick is failing, it just doesn't work with him. He doesn't have the type of attitude to pull it off. He isn't flaming, he is acting flaming. There's a key difference; one is natural, the other isn't. RRR: Wanted the "Rebel without a Clue" gimmick.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 Hey, I had to write about it. FEEL FOR ME!!!! Actually, because I can make anything entertaining (and I mean ANYTHING), I didn't think it was too bad. When I can't make any jokes, then we've got a problem.
LooseCannon25 Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 The thing is when i see Rico doing his gimmick i dont think of "Exotic" Adrian Street. Instead I think of "Adorable" Adrain Adonis and there IS a difference between the two. Regardless this shit isnt working for him, as RRR said, you can clearly SEE that he's overacting
ANKLELOCK Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 I dont know why you would say the Christian/Booker match was boring as it was better than the Bad Blood match.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 There's a difference between overacting and over-the-top. This is supposed to be over-the-top. Rico is _playing gay_ rather than _being gay_. So we get the overly-cliched prancing and blowing kisses and whatnot. If I were gay I'd be insulted... shit, I'm insulted anyways that such a lame-ass gimmick is getting time.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 Booker/Christian was so fucking sweet... not for the match but for the finish were you could hear the ref say "let's take it home" and Booker saying "ready?" to Christian on the top rope. CALLING SPOTS~!
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 The main conceptual problem with this episode of RAW is that it was all about getting Bischoff over and everyone else was just sort of treading water or doing stuff designed to put heat on Bischoff. I will say I liked the chokeslam off the ramp though.
Guest RollingSambos Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 Rico is also a rip-off of Goldust '95-'96. At a house show I recently attended, he even did the line about coming out there and kissing us all. Funny thing was that he was wrestling Goldust, and when he said that Goldust acted all appalled. I suppose that 2 years from now Rico and Jackie will be known as "at one time the most bizarre couple in all of WWE...now, the most glamorous!"
Guest Dangerous A Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 It's pretty sad and lame that Vince and Co. couldn't come up with anything for this guy except retreads of gay gimmicks THAT NEVER DRAW MONEY IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!
Guest Goodear Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 I went to sleep after the first hour and a half, I think the 'mystery partner' for Hurricane being Spike Dudley sort of seeled the deal. Rico is a snore as a single folks, I don't want to hear how good of a worker he is when he's pulling out this dreck each and every week. The spinkick finisher is an joke by the way. Christian - See Rico but ignore the spinkick finisher thing. I hate that floatover superplex finish with a passion especially since no one has actually done the floatover successfully since Barry Windham. Of what I saw, the tag match with Test and Steiner was the best part of the show... and thats EXTREMELY SCARY.
Guest Raven_Effect01 Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 Rico definitely seems to be overacting with the gay gimmick as he doesn't fit it, and WWE should quit using old ideas with different wrestlers. What pisses me off though is it seems that WWE's trying to Brian Lawler-ize him: Now, Lawler didn't have a gay gimmick in TNA like he did in WWE, but what he did was showboat too much and not wrestle much at all except for his usual spots and punching. This is the same thing Rico's doing now unfortunately, thanks to WWE.
Guest Polish_Rifle Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 It seems like everything went downhill after the Booker/Christian match and the Gail Kim debut. Why is Jericho playing second fiddle to the Test/Steiner feud? Why is Dreamer and Spike doing on Raw? They seem so out of place there and when their music played, you just knew they were going to lose. They need to put Shannon Moore back with the Hurricane as a tag team because both of them are going nowhere FAST.
Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 I think Rico is doing a great job at the Adrian Street gimmick. I don't think he's comes off as Adonis though. He is doing Street to a "T". The only thing I think he needs is the blonde pony tails!
Bored Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 When Johnson starts a thread on how much Raw sucked you know its bad. That was just about the biggest throw away show I've seen in recent memory. I know the Raw side has to kill some time before SummerSlam but damn could they advance one fuckin' angle? Raw can horrible as we know but shit at least have SOMETHING of meaning happen the whole night. The only thing of significance that happened was the debut of Gail Kim and the crowd didn't give a shit.
gWIL Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 I don't see why they don't give Rico an American Gladitor gimmick
Guest Goodear Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 Because no one cares about Pyro like they used to...
Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 Because no one cares about Pyro like they used to... You mean to tell me that people once did?
Guest AndrewTS Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 I thought what set Street apart from other gay gimmicks was that he beat the everloving shit out of his opponents? Rico just prances around like a stereotypical gay man and does his WWE-ized offense.

Including grabbing the refs ass.
Guest COCOPUFFS Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 terrible show, i honestly dont know how i made it through those 2 long boring hours. it sucked so bad it just seemed like the thing was going on forever and ever, and had me asking myself whens it gonna end
Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 It sure did, just like your post.
Guest MideonMark Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 Seems the WWE has to have someone playing a gay gimmick on the roster, so why not sign Christopher St. Connection, who can at least do the gimmick very well and are f'n hilarious at it. I mean they managed to get over as major faces in ROH, in front of a bunch of critical, smart wrestling fans, who would usually shit all over such a gimmick. Plus they would bolster the tag division, cause theyre actually pretty o.k. in the ring.
