I like primarily rap and r+b, but as far as rock goes; White Stripes. The guy is scary but the music's never bad. That girl from Evanescence has a really nice voice too.

I like rock, rap, and pop, so the only mainstream genre I typically don't get into is country.

That said, I don't think any human being on the face of the earth can deny how freaking awesome Johnny Cash and his music are. I'm not sure if it's actually labeled "Country" or not, but they seem to play it on CMT a lot, and that's enough for me.

And his video for "Hurt" is one of the best ever. SO powerful.

I primarily listen to brutal death metal and old weird rock.

I really dig Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker.

Just got back from Glastonbury, (~!) and whilst I've never been too big on Reggae or Rap, Jimmy Cliff and De La Soul are two of the best live acts I've ever seen. Respect.

Other than pop country, I can't think of a genre I dislike. Genre that i have access to that is. There's no pop country artist that I can stand yet alone like.

Not sure where I stand on polka...never heard enough good polka music.

I am generally most attached to Black Metal and most things heavy. I also enjoy Fiona Apple, Shakira, Chet Atkins and many others. Pop Country make baby Satan cry...

Besides Rap and R&B/Soul, I like Reggae/dancehall, House or Crunk music, a lil bit of pop and Rock but I don't really listen the last two genre as much as the others.

I am a mark for all things music. I'm mostly a rock/metal kind of guy though.

I do enjoy the Wu-Tang Clan, DMX, A Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, and Run-DMC as far as rap goes. I'm not the biggest fan of pop, but for some reason, I do like Kelly Clarkson's "Miss Independent." There, I said it. Have a field day with that one.

I try to avoid dance, techno, club, or whatever it's called these days (not sure what makes them different, but then again I'm not a fan), but I like Scatman John, White Town, and God Lives Underwater.

Curse you! I shoulda been there!

*sigh*

I'm not a big fan of industrial (or whatever you want to call it), but for some reason I really like Ramestein's Mutter album. Listening to it while going through Germany = B-)

I listen to mostly classic rock and some metal, but I'm a fan of Public Enemy, NWA, Dr. Dre and Sum 41 *please don't hit me for enjoying Sum 41*

I'm mostly a "classical" guy as far as rock, country, jazz, blues and the like go. Even in rap I really like the more old school acts like Run DMC, NWA and Ice Tea. About the only newer band I listen to is Cake. I do find that I don't mind Pink too much, something about the voice that draws me. She's got a husky Pat Benatar flavor to it.

Tony Bennett and Barry Manilow...OH THEY ARE THE SHIT!!!

I also like Michelle enodigochelloaofiaoeh;(bald black chick), Tracy Chapman, and Staind.

I am a hip-hop fan first but love every kind of music. Alanis Morresstte is my fav. artist...

Told you I was less black than you, Flyboy. Beat Tony Bennett.

I am all about Rock (all forms), Rap...

And anti country

But I can dig Garth Brooks stuff sometimes...

Cash is Country? I thought it as FOLK instead...

Cash has evolved over the years. Currently I would say he's a mix of traditional country and modern folk. Originally he was rockabilly, then Nashville sound country, then outlaw country, then traditional country and his folk roots and gospel roots began peaking through with the first American Recordings album.

Whereabouts are you? I'm in Sheffield, btw. I was fucking lucky to get a ticket as well, I paid £165 after someone pulled out, which wasn't bad considering what others were paying at that late stage (around april).

I agree with El Satanico's point though, I cannot and will not dismiss any entire genre. Generally (Genre-ally?) speaking I dislike music that can be placed into a specific genre, but The acts I mentioned in my first post are classic, pioneering examples of their respective genres, and huge influences on a variety of modern movements.

And I think Mutter is a tremendous album, and don't mind saying so.

Country isn't really my cup of tea but (surprise, surprise) I really like Johnny Cash.

Also I really like what I've heard from Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Then again, I like jazz in general, even if it's not something I constantly listen to (I should look into listening to it more frequently), so that probably doesn't count. In fact, I don't think there is a single genre that I out and out despise, though obviously I generally prefer certain genres over others.

Amen.

I hate rap... but J5 brings the badassitude.

I'm a huge DMB fan (my other faves are Jack Johnson and Seal), don't like punk at all but Dropkick Murphys are the shit.

I normally can't stand rap but I enjoy Tupac and Eminem's work.

"I can't stand rap BUUUT I like these rappers"

If you can't stick to your hatred of a genre, then stop claiming that you hate it.

It bugs the hell out of me when someone spews strong dislike of something and in the same breath mentions something they like from whatever they claimed to hate.

Hard to say for me, I like some of just about everything I can think of. I don't care much for country after about 1970 or so... although I do enjoy mixing pop country, that and Eminem are the most fun to chop up like that.

I'm down Portsmouth way. I really wanted to go to Glasto, but I got sacked in March, and couldn't get annother job to fit in with my Uni stuff. Oh well, there's always Reading :)

Also, seeing Jimmy Cliff? Good man!

i don't see what's so bad about it. people make generalizations with exceptions all the time, & i don't see anything wrong with it. i have an intense, vile hatred for about 95% of pop music, but i love michael jackson. does my love for michael jackson make me hate britney, backstreet boys, avril, 98 degrees, destiny's child, and countless others any less? no. does michael jackson somehow cancel out the effect that those others have on pop music? no. jackson's the exception, not the rule. you can still hold a general principle while acknowledging that there are a few abnormal cases.
