Guest Lord of The Curry Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 So I'm listening to Avril's cover of "Knocking On Heavens Door" and I actually don't hate it. In fact, I really like it. Now I'm thinking about cover songs. So, what rare or unheard of cover songs do you dig? One of my personals faves (which is available for DL on Kazaa) is The Deftones doing "Say It Ain't So" by Weezer.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 I like In Flames covering "Eye of the Beholder"

Guest Renegade Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 I liked You spin me right round by Slaves on dope, even though the rest of the album was pretty awfull.
Guest gangsteruwa Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 AFI's cover of the Misfits "Halloween." Vader's cover of Morbid Angel's "Immortal Rites."
Guest BigPoppaKev Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Janes Addiction's acoustic cover of Blind Melon's No Rain is a very good cover song.

Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 I've liked every single cover I've heard of "Can't Find my Way Home," as done by Joe Cocker, Alana Davis, Allison Krauss and Bonnie Raitt.
Guest Lord of The Curry Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Travis does a great cover of "The Weight" which I first heard at the end of the film Igby Goes Down.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Radiohead covering Winter Wonderland is both brilliant and hilarious.
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Iz's version of "Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World" is pretty good... Boston punk band Gang Green covered "Voices Carry" and changed the line about Falling in Love to Falling down drunk... good stuff
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Boston punk band Gang Green covered "Voices Carry" and changed the line about Falling in Love to Falling down drunk... good stuff The best part of Gang Green doing Voices Carry is that they actually got Aimee Mann to join them for a version on one of the albums. I can't think of any other obscure cover that got the support of the original that way.
Guest Nevermortal Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 HIM doing "Rebel Yell" (David Bowie) HIM doing "Don't Fear the Reaper" (Blue Oyster Cult) Cradle of Filth doing "For Those Who Died" (Sabbat) Dimmu Borgir doing "Metal Heart" (Accept) Dimmu Borgir doing "Burn in Hell" (Twisted Sister)
Guest Flyboy Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Fiona Apple's "Across The Universe" is good.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 I liked You spin me right round by Slaves on dope, even though the rest of the album was pretty awfull. That was actually done by Dope, not Slaves on Dope, which is a different pointless nu metal band entirely.
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 nl5xsk1- wow, really? That's awesome... Love the MDC quote by the way...
Guest justsoyouknow Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 HIM doing "Rebel Yell" (David Bowie) Might you mean Billy Idol? Or did David Bowie have a song called "Rebel Yell" as well? I'm not too huge on the Bowie, so I'm not really sure.
Guest starvenger Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 So, what rare or unheard of cover songs do you dig? One of my personals faves (which is available for DL on Kazaa) is The Deftones doing "Say It Ain't So" by Weezer. I've heard a Juliana Hatfield cover of "Say It Ain't So" that's pretty good. Others: - Holly McNarland, "In The Air Tonight". Pretty haunting - Toploader, "Dancing in the Moonlight". Popular in Britain, as I understand it. - Honourable mention to Steve Buscemi singing "True" in The Wedding Singer... Goldfinger - "99 Red Balloons" (Nena) I didn't like it, to be honest.
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Other punk covers that I like more than the original: Circle Jerks: Fortunate Son, She's Having my Baby & Put a Little Love in Your Heart Sheer Terror: Boys Don't Cry MDC: Politician & Spanish Castle Magic Minor Threat: (I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone Slapshot: White Rabbit and Jango, thanks for noting the MDC quote ... I've been giving some thought to changing it and am stoked to know that it was recognized before it suffers it's unfortunate demise.
B. Brian Brunzell Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 I love the Dropkick Murphys covers of The Clash's "White Riot" and "The Guns of Brixton."
Guest Sandman9000 Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Ten Masked Men. Death Metal cover band. Covers include Thriller, Like A Virgin, Wonderwall, and Hit Me Baby One More Time, among others. Know them. Love them. Like I have.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Slayer - "Ice Titan" (Dio) Anti-Establishment - "I Disappear" (Metallica)
Guest treble charged Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 The FUBAR soundtrack has a few that I enjoy. Sum 41's cover of Helix's 'Rock You', treble charger doing April Wine's 'Roller' and Toronto's 'Your Daddy Don't Know' by the New Pornographers are probably the three best on there.
Guest The Metal Maniac Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Therion covering Manowar's "Thor (The Powerhead)".
Guest Nevermortal Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 HIM doing "Rebel Yell" (David Bowie) Might you mean Billy Idol? Or did David Bowie have a song called "Rebel Yell" as well? I'm not too huge on the Bowie, so I'm not really sure. Yeah, Billy Idol. Brainfart there.
