Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted July 7, 2003 So I'm listening to Avril's cover of "Knocking On Heavens Door" and I actually don't hate it. In fact, I really like it. Now I'm thinking about cover songs. So, what rare or unheard of cover songs do you dig? One of my personals faves (which is available for DL on Kazaa) is The Deftones doing "Say It Ain't So" by Weezer.

Guest JangoFett4Hire Report post Posted July 7, 2003 Iz's version of "Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World" is pretty good... Boston punk band Gang Green covered "Voices Carry" and changed the line about Falling in Love to Falling down drunk... good stuff
Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted July 7, 2003 Boston punk band Gang Green covered "Voices Carry" and changed the line about Falling in Love to Falling down drunk... good stuff The best part of Gang Green doing Voices Carry is that they actually got Aimee Mann to join them for a version on one of the albums. I can't think of any other obscure cover that got the support of the original that way.

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 7, 2003 I liked You spin me right round by Slaves on dope, even though the rest of the album was pretty awfull. That was actually done by Dope, not Slaves on Dope, which is a different pointless nu metal band entirely.

Guest justsoyouknow Report post Posted July 7, 2003 HIM doing "Rebel Yell" (David Bowie) Might you mean Billy Idol? Or did David Bowie have a song called "Rebel Yell" as well? I'm not too huge on the Bowie, so I'm not really sure.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted July 7, 2003 So, what rare or unheard of cover songs do you dig? One of my personals faves (which is available for DL on Kazaa) is The Deftones doing "Say It Ain't So" by Weezer. I've heard a Juliana Hatfield cover of "Say It Ain't So" that's pretty good. Others: - Holly McNarland, "In The Air Tonight". Pretty haunting - Toploader, "Dancing in the Moonlight". Popular in Britain, as I understand it. - Honourable mention to Steve Buscemi singing "True" in The Wedding Singer... Goldfinger - "99 Red Balloons" (Nena) I didn't like it, to be honest. Guest nl5xsk1 Report post Posted July 7, 2003 Other punk covers that I like more than the original: Circle Jerks: Fortunate Son, She's Having my Baby & Put a Little Love in Your Heart Sheer Terror: Boys Don't Cry MDC: Politician & Spanish Castle Magic Minor Threat: (I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone Slapshot: White Rabbit and Jango, thanks for noting the MDC quote ... I've been giving some thought to changing it and am stoked to know that it was recognized before it suffers it's unfortunate demise.

Guest treble charged Report post Posted July 7, 2003 The FUBAR soundtrack has a few that I enjoy. Sum 41's cover of Helix's 'Rock You', treble charger doing April Wine's 'Roller' and Toronto's 'Your Daddy Don't Know' by the New Pornographers are probably the three best on there.
