I saw it last night and I plan on seeing it again sometime next week... EXCELLENT movie. Probably the most fun I've had watching in the theater since Oceans 11. Hopefully this will not only be successful enough to warrant a sequel, but will spark the Pirate film genre

Pirates of the Carribean is probably one of the best movie this year.

There's another thread about the movie down the page a bit, but it only has 3 posts, so I doubt that's a big deal.

I fully agree. Saw it last night, had my expectations toppled. Absolutely beautiful entertainment--a little overlong, but hell, I didn't mind.

It also happened to be one of the gayest mainstream movies I've ever seen. Like, literally. Talk about homoerotic subtext. Hilarious, perfect, and wonderful, as far as action-adventure goes.

I saw it last night and was highly surprised by it. Very well done. Especially for a movie based on an amusement park ride!

Nice to see they put in aspects of the ride in the movie (i.e. the dog holding the keys to the cell while the prisoners tried to get him to come over, and the pirate island with the women pouring beer into the pirates' mouths)

Did anyone see the thing after the credits?

I saw the movie last night, and, I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The little swerves that they threw in were enough to keep you guessing, and the action sequences were very well done.

What happened after the credits?

EDIT: There was a preview for a "Haunted Mansion" movie starring Eddie Murphy. I hope it bombs.

The stuff after the credits wasn't much. Probably not enough to wait around for at the theater. This is what happens:

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Basically the monkey comes back to the chest and pulls out a coin and becomes cursed again. And then he turns to the camera and screams really loud

I'm glad to hear so many people have liked it. I'm seeing it tomorrow.

I've heard that Depp is pretty funny.

Saw it last night... and I had a GREAT time. The audience was REALLY into it, and Johnny Depp had them going the entire time. About 20 kids in the front rows got kicked out for setting firecrackers off... but it didn't ruin anything for me.

I will say that it DID seem a bit too long for a pirate movie, and the scenes without Depp tended to drag... actually, hell, to tell you the truth, Depp carried the entire film on his back, but he's one of the best actors today, and his performance alone took the movie from "pretty good" to "absolutely enjoyable," I thought. The script was pretty clever too though.

I'm hoping that if this movie is a success (and I'm sure it will be) George Lucas at Lucas Arts will look into bring the Monkey Island game series to life in a motion picture! I mark... for guybrush threepwood

I saw the movie two nights ago. One of the best movies I saw this year. I was really surprised at how good it was. I liked all the swerves in the movie, espically at the end.

I just saw it and I also loved it.

It was a very fun movie and Depp was great. I had no problem with the length either. If they make a sequel I'd definately see it.

For some reason I always like Pirate movies. I mean hell, I even liked Cutthroat Island.

That is the single greatest idea ever.

I mark for Meathook.

Hmmm... I wonder who would make a great Meathook??

I personally would be most excited seeing STAN! Now that I think about it, Jim Carrey would be great for that part!

Did anyone else notice that Depp's performance in Pirates was nearly identical to his performance in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas?

Kept thinking that throughout the entire movie.

Hunter S. Thompson....the pirate. That thought alone makes me want to see the movie.

I got my brother the DVD of Fear and Loathing for his birthday. He loves that movie, and to some extent it grows on me as well.

Well, Pirates was a watchable and enjoyable movie to say the least, but I guess some of the plotholes keeps me from proclaiming it great.

*SPOILERS!*

***************************************************

Why didn't Will Turner just give the coin over with maybe a vile of blood? That way they could fight regular pirates instead of undead super pirates.

Why do the undead pirates even bother swashbuckling with their good guy counterparts? Thy can't feel pain, right?

If they dumped Will Turner's dad in the ocean after they were cursed, wouldn't that mean he just stayed at the bottom of the ocean not dead, because he was cursed too

*****************************************************

Sorry if that sounded like nitpicking, but I do want it to be known that I did enjoy the movie, just it could have been tweaked a little.

Ahem...spoiler tags!

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Where in the world was he supposed to get a vile for his blood in the middle of all that?

They swashbuckle in an attempt to kill their human opponents.

Do you really think they want to go find the guy at the bottom of the ocean with a cannon tied to his leg?

My only question is. If Jack was cursed for just pulling a coin out then why weren't Will and the girl cursed when they wore it?

Spoiler (Highlight to Read):

Methinks it's just because they didn't actually take the coin from its original location. Jack took one that had been replaced, straight from the source; Will and Elizabeth were simply carrying around what had been given to them. The coins themselves weren't cursed; it was the action of taking them that was.

<spoiler>I think that the chick didn't become undead because she got the coin from Will, who was the one guy who could stop the curse with his blood anyway.

As far as his dad goes, I would guess that he was killed in protest over what they did to Depp, but before they stole anything. Timeline is hazy though.
