Guest Big Poppa Popick Report post Posted July 15, 2003 on raw, this week, they set up two matches for next week that a) make sense b) have build c) let people know whats going to be on who are watching it then This is something I haven't seen RAW do in a long, long time. Nice to see WWE do something right for a change
Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Yeah, when's the last time they hyped two matches? Especially two upper tier matches. I'm actually impressed and think they should do this more often.
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted July 15, 2003 I agree here, but I beleive matches like that should be saved for a PPV. Nothing wrong with extending the RVD/Kane buildup until then. The Shawn/Y2J thing is a great idea. I just hope it is a good long match with a decent clean finish. I'm willing to bet RVD/Kane is an overbooked dusty finish so the match will be on the SS card. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 15, 2003 And they advertised matches for house shows. ... It's a shame they had Brock as champ in them and facing Angle and Benoit vs. Rhyno. I'm guessing this will be a regular deal. Everytime a Split PPV comes around they will book a "very special Raw/Smackdown" to counter-act it. Not a bad Idea, but I'd make it kinda like a "Clash of the Champions" deal... you know... with a name.

They can have it on a Wednesday or Friday with lots of wrestling and upper tier matches nad little segments.
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted July 15, 2003 That would definitely help ratings. Kind of like no matter what the card has been for Rumbles, they draw significant numbers.
Guest Big Poppa Popick Report post Posted July 15, 2003 yeah, i miss the clash of the champions...a free ppv basically...was a nice thing wcw did cmon wwe!
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted July 15, 2003 The only thing free you'll get from the WWE are still shots or a WWE logo wallet holder.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 15, 2003 I miss the rampway most of all.
B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2003 If the WWF does do something like COTC, who's betting that they just call it "Clash of the Champions?" No wait, that would be NOT burying WCW more.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 15, 2003 I agree. A supershow in between in the middle part of when a brand doesn't have a ppv that month. Call it something different as well. Hell, put it on a different night to make it seem even more special.
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted July 15, 2003 But them having to come up with about 12 of those names for each time would produce some bad names. Kind of like WCW's attempt at new PPV names only consisting of one word with the same video buildup.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 15, 2003 It would be tough to put it on a different night, though -given the schedule of WWE wrestlers. They could tape it on Saturday or Sunday and run it on Wednesday - but then they'd be working backwards w/ Raw.... hmm... toughie.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Um, "Clash of the Champions I", "Clash of the Champions II", ... etc. I wouldn't have it for *every* mid PPV deal, but I'd have it maybe 3/4 times a year for each show.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted July 15, 2003 If I was a fan live tonight on RAW, I would have been on the fucking warpath. Not only did they not have a main event match, they didn't even get a promo in the ring or anything. Hell, they were forced to just sit there and watch it on TV with the rest of us. Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted July 15, 2003 If the WWE doesn't want to use a WCW name, they could always bring back SNME.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Anyone count up the total length of matches this week?
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted July 15, 2003 even when they don't have monthly PPV's the feuds only last a month. Impressive.

I say that cause in March 1999 WCW came to Sacramento right after the SuperBrawl ppv like they had for the past 3 years. They ended that show with us watching TV for a skit as the main event. Remember that 1999 was a huge money losing year for WCW and the time they started killing territories. Just like WWE is right now.
Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted July 15, 2003 good point on the live show...where were they today anyway?

Guest JHawk Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Anyone count up the total length of matches this week? Total length of matches? This is not an exact figure because I didn't bring my notebook to the computer with me, but approx. 37 minutes (only about 12 minutes of that taking place after the elimination match that ended about 10:10 Eastern). And I keep track for the sake of going back through it at a later date and not usually to point out the discrepancy in wrestling/non-wrestling time, but I end up pointing it out more often than not anyway. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Hmm, seemed A LOT shorter than that. But then again, I believe Storm/Maven got 6 minutes. Still, I believe the avg for the last month or so has been 40+ minutes, hasn't it?
Guest Downhome Report post Posted July 15, 2003 I was ok with the show as a whole, but as a live fan had I been there, I would have been about as pissed off as I have ever been over Pro. Wrestling. There is no excuse to not give the fans a main event, any sort of main event. No, Molly/Gail and an interview on a damn bigscreen (a very bad interview) does not count. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 15, 2003 What's the point of getting excited about HBK v. Jericho??? They did it once and completely fucked up the finish and killed Jericho's heat as a result. Tell me why I would want to see a rematch.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Because that said match was ***3/4-****1/
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Cause the match ended cleanly dammit and the two haven't had an issue with each other for months, that's why! Err... I mean, they're setting up Test/Jericho vs. Nash/HBK...
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 15, 2003 I wouldn't give it anything near ****1/4. Michaels' selling was laughable at best.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Because that said match was ***3/4-****1/4 So? I can watch the Wrestlemania DVD for it. Why would I want to see a rematch when in the first one- Shawn went over clean and Jericho has been getting buried ever since?
