Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted July 15, 2003 I actually liked the segment. I like how they explained why his face and body did not have any grotesque scars I must have been thinking about puppies, or counting my toes when they mentioned that. How did they explain it/
Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted July 15, 2003 The doctors told him the burns were superficial but he thought they were lying to him, so he went on thinking he was disfigured when in reality he was not, thus he suffers from a some sort of psychotic denial thing due to the trauma of the fire. Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 15, 2003 That's actuallly fucking good writing right there...
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 15, 2003 So does that mean JR becomes a psycho too? Let's not forget that due to Kanes mental state he was able to project his fears and image of a burned face telepathically to those who saw him unmasked. This mental projection lasted all the way up to last night when JR - with his keen sense of observation - broke through the telepathic 'spell' created by Kanes subconscious and discovered his 'true' self. Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 15, 2003 :SIGH: RRR always needs to be negative... WWE shows some...some...Intelligence... The segment was still a setback with the overselling and shit...
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 15, 2003 It's a big gap in logic. But hey, let's just "forget about it", it was all a dream.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Actuallly...The only real logic gap is the segment that 93% of The Audience has forgotten that happened 3 years ago...
Guest Shanghai Kid Report post Posted July 15, 2003 I liked the segment from a character stand point. The storyline is 'almost' intriguing, probably the storyline of the year. The execution of the fire was pretty bad though, entertaining, but bad. On the otherhand, I don't know why anybody would think this is bad for Kane or 'killing his character'. For the last 6 years Kane has had all this backstory that the WWE has never even explained, they explained a little when he first came, and than just let him cruise along through bad storylines until he had became a joke. Now their making him the focus of the show, revealing his past and giving him character development. Kane's more over than he's ever been, and he's going to be a bigger draw than he's ever been if they play this up right and keep focusing on it.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 15, 2003 That what concerns me...WWE is using logic and good character development here... I mean it can't last for long and how bad will they drop the ball..
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 15, 2003 That _still_ doesn't explain the shock and horror that JR and the King had just a few weeks ago. Not to mention Austin barely stomaching it. There's a whole package here, along with Brisco and Patterson (which wasn't ONE segment, they made a WHOLE show about it and followed it up) being disgusted at seeing Kanes face. It HAPPENED. What they are doing now is the equivilancy of "it's all a dream" - all that stuff dealing with Kanes face in the past, it never happened. It's a fucking cop-out. Guest jester Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Let's face it, it would be hard enough for a team of genius writers to make the unmasking work, given all the directions Kane has gone over the years. For the WWE writerz, it was plainly impossible. There was going to be a glaring contradiction somewhere. Although, it is surprising that even these half-wits were forgeting that people were looking on in horror at Kane as early as last week because of the "disfiguration." If the WWE writers had to write a story for an alcoholic character, they probably couldn't find a logical way to get him drunk.
Guest JDMattitudeV1 Report post Posted July 15, 2003 One things for sure, if I went to work and got set on fire, made to kiss my boss's ass, forced to fight my boss's hired henchmen on a regular basis, got publicly fired on several occasions and had my boss smash and cinder block over my head it think it would be time to look for a new job. Can't wait till they use the "I love this business, BAH GAWD! and I'm not going to let a little thing like being set on fire stop me" line next week.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Nope...Ross will be off air for at least two weeks and The fans will suffer and hire their own insecure monster to burn them to avoid Coach.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted July 15, 2003 I'm sorry, but this was a *Major* angle. It wasn't a throw-away eps. where Ross tells Rachel his favourite album was "The Wall" one year and "Thriller" then next. This was an angle going on for what, 5 years? 6? Kanes mask had been a focal point of it throughout. Guess what? HE WASN'T REALLY BURNED! Guess what? Ross never really divorced his wife!
Guest jester Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Nope...Ross will be off air for at least two weeks and The fans will suffer and hire their own insecure monster to burn them to avoid Coach. Yep, two weeks or so and Ross will be back, looking fine. Yeah, that's why the wrestlers keep coming back though they get lit on fire, or killed in the case of HHH. You take off two weeks, and you're good as new.

Guest JMA Report post Posted July 15, 2003 I always hated the Kane gimmick. It greatly insulted the intelligence of the fans. I can't believe they expected us to believe that Taker's supposedly dead and burnt brother had come for revenge against him. Don't you think the authorities would want to know about a man thought dead still being alive? But it doesn't end there. We're supposed to believe he has "mystical" powers (summoning lightning and creating fire). Then the Katie Vick angle happens and contradicts this story. They should jush trash the gimmick. Guest jester Report post Posted July 15, 2003 Something more to chew on regarding the BBQ segment: WCW Stunt Coordinator Behind JR/Kane Segment Posted By Ashish on 07.15.03 You knew WCW had to somehow be connected to that segment... Stunt coordinator Ellis Edwards appeared on RAW tonight and was involved in putting together the Jim Ross/Kane fire segment. Edwards was seen at the end of the segment putting the fire out. Edwards was once employed by WCW and was responsible for many of their stunts including the Sting/Vampiro "burning fall," many of Crowbar's extreme finishes, and Kanyon's jump from the side of Cage 3 through the entrance ramp. Guest Adrian 3:16 Report post Posted July 15, 2003 You know, the WWE has been able to do very little right for a long time now, but I'll give them credit on salvaging the Kane angle. The interview, as well as take on the situation from Austin, Bischoff and RVD, was actually surprisingly well written last night. How many angles from the last few years can claim that? I do agree that Taker should get involved eventually, if only for closure's sake. I see people complaining about the retcon from as recently as last week, but would you rather they kept it going with Kane looking like Friar Tuck with soot on his face? They took a bad direction, scrapped it before it really got a chance to sink in, and redeemed themselves with a story that actually makes quite a bit of sense. Yeah it defies logic from the original unmasking, but that's water under the bridge now. It reminds me of the Big Show situation from last year. He'd been horribly booked for years, so finally they do something right and move him to Smackdown where he's actually made to look like a threat. And still people bitched "wait, he was just loosing to Jeff Hardy, he can't be strong now!" They fix a situation that shouldn't have been to begin with, and the people who bitched then all of a sudden don't want it changed because now it contradicts. The scarred vs. unscarred Kane is the same thing. Would you rather they continued to fuck the angle up, or would you just miss being able to complain? Also, if you can't find entertainment in JR being set on fire, you must have no sense of humor whatsoever.
Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted July 15, 2003 At some point UT is going to have to be traded to Raw for someone. Might as well make it RVD since RVD fits in better on SMDN anyway. Could have Kane try to burn up RVD a la JR, but Bischoff says enough is enough and trades RVD to get him away from this psychotic shit. But really, Taker has to get involved in this at some point. He's doing nothing right now on SMDN anyway.

KTID 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2003 I think they should have Glen Jacobs admit that he was never really Undertaker's brother, and was merely impersonating 'Kane' as Paul Bearer paid him to. They can easily explain this, and also apply whorehouses full of continuity and closure to his past. Say he (Glen Jacobs) had his dentists licence suspended and, looking for a new career path, entered the impersonation industry. JR then hired Glen Jacobs Impersonations Inc. to portray 'Diesel', before Paul Bearer hired him to portray 'Kane'. However, say that JR was behind on his payments, and owed him a large sum of money, so he came for revenge on JR.
