Guest JebusNassedar Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 The last two CD's I bought were "De-Loused in the Comatorium" by Mars Volta, and I FINALLY nabbed "El Cielo" by dredg. I'm looking into "Hail to the Thief" at the moment, but whether or not I get that depends if Zakk Wylde's availible.
Guest Random Hero Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 I was spoit for choice last time I went in HMV. They've got a sale of sorts on, but unusually the CDs that are on sale I actually have an interest in. I agonised for an hour about what to get...I was always gonna get 1919 Eternal- BLS ...but then I had to pick 2 maybe 3 out of....Pet Sounds - Beach Boys, The Art Of Balance - Shadows Fall, Fear Of The Dark - Iron Maiden, Alive Or Just Breathing - Killswitch Engage, A Change Of Season - Dream Theater and The Very Best Of The Beach Boys....as stated earlier in the thread, I picked The Art of Balance and Pet Sounds. I just hope the sale is still on next time I get some money... All of these CDs weren't on sale, it should be noted. Which made the choice even harder.
Murmuring Beast Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Dead Letter Office, Document, Reckoning - REM Wild Honey, Today, Summer Days and Summer Nights!!!, Smiley Smile, Beach Boys Live at the Knebworth - The Beach Boys Yes, I am addicted.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Dead Letter Office, Document, Reckoning - REM What took ya so long! All great albums. Dead Letter Office is one of the better album thrown together of random B-Sides and whatnot.
Murmuring Beast Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 I only need Up to complete the collection, and it's their worst. I only got into REM about 6 months ago and since then been on a mission to get all their albums at schoolboy prices.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 Up is hit and miss. Too technoish for me. But some of the mellower songs are good
Guest saturnmark4life Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 I think 'New Adventures In Hi-Fi' will prove to be their last great release. They still got the goods live, though.
Murmuring Beast Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 New Adventures is a ***** album along with Murmur and Automatic. I doubt they'll top it, but you're right - they can still do it live. Mills is God.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Mills is the star, he doesn't get appreciated. Just things like playing the bassline whilst singing the harmony line are cleverer than you think.
Murmuring Beast Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Damn right, and he has a great voice too. Plus he's sorted out his image and he looks great now. Just look at some of those ridiculous haircuts and clothes from the 80s and early 90s.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Stipe owned him in terms of 'what the fuck were they thinking?' fashion onslaughts most of the time tho
Murmuring Beast Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Yea, at one stage I think he had a hole shaved in his hair so that he looked like a monk.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Yes, yes...then there were the plats. God, the plats...
Murmuring Beast Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 But they're ok now. They must have purchased a stylist.
Guest Plushy Al Logan Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Sammy Hagar & The Waboritas- Hallelujah On the When It's Love track, the fans seem to be cheering that Gary cherone left the stage.
Guest kingkamala Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Led Zeppelin- Physical Grafitti Paul Rodgers- Electric Black Sabbath- Vol. 4
Garth Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Recently bought the new Janes Addiction CD "Strays" Great album Perry Farrell is a king.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 Newest Foo Fighters and Coldplay. Also the got the Evanescence (sp) cd. "My Immortal" is amazing. I heard a bunch of people go on about how good it was.
Guest Incandenza Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 This pay check is most likely going to get me some Nick Cave (any recommendations?) What Edwin said is fine, but have you ever tried Cave's old band, The Birthday Party? Really dark, abrasive stuff. They only have two proper albums--Prayers on Fire and Junkyard--and they're both incredible. As for recent purchases, I got krautrock legends Can's first album, Monster Movie, the other day. A lot more rock-oriented than their groove/trancey stuff they did with Damo Suzuki, but still pretty good.
Guest Nanks Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 I too just picked up Evanesence's Fallen. I love Tourniquet and Haunted. Fuck Amy Lee's got a great voice. Was somewhat surprised the guy who sings a little bit in Bring Me To Life got absolutely no time in the rest of the album.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 Was somewhat surprised the guy who sings a little bit in Bring Me To Life got absolutely no time in the rest of the album. Neh, guy from 12 Stones was just brought in for one song. Better that way, cause I like the version without him better.
Guest Nanks Posted July 24, 2003 Report Posted July 24, 2003 Ahhhh, I see. That explains a lot. I hadn't realised he wasn't actually part of the band. Fair enough. Thankyou for that clarification. I agree though, Amy doesn't need any help.
Guest ArkhamGlobe Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 I was planning to go on a buying spree today as I got my paycheck, but I only ended up getting "Live Rust" by Neil Young. I'll probably buy some more stuff during the next couple of days though.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted July 27, 2003 Report Posted July 27, 2003 That Lee chick does have a good voice, I have to concede that. But God, what an awful, AWFUL band. Wasted. I just got 'On returning (1977-79) by Wire, just cos. It doesn't sound like much at first, but the influence is staggering.
Guest Space_Cowboy Posted July 28, 2003 Report Posted July 28, 2003 Just got Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle and Jurassic 5's Power In Numbers.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 I just got Nick Cave's Murder Ballads, and find it to be quite enjoyable. The place's selection was a bit limited, but I'm pleased with this. I want to get more. I also got an Al Di Meola cd..something about a Gypsy, I don't have it within reach. I listen to some of it, concluded that he's an official guitar badass, and then I kind of got out of the mood for progressive ass kicking. I'll probably enjoy it more on multiple spins, but then again it might have the Dream Theater effect with me. It's jazzier though, so it doesn't strike me quite as cheesy.
Guest The Superstar Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 Led Zeppelin - Early Days and Latter Days Andrew W.K. - I Get Wet
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 Ashtray as big as a really fucking big brick is the coolest line in a song ever.
Guest notJames Posted July 30, 2003 Report Posted July 30, 2003 On my recent trip to Tunes in Hoboken, I picked up: Limp - Pop & Disorderly, which features a kick-ass remake of "Holiday Road" from the National Lampoon's Vacation movie Goldfinger - Open Your Eyes Epitaph Record's Punk-O-Rama Volume 8 compilation Total: $20.00 (I love marked down CDs) I also picked up tickets to see Sensefield in August and Some Girls (featuring Juliana Hatfield) in September, both shows at Maxwell's, the Holy Grail of tiny music venues on the East Coast.
Guest Space_Cowboy Posted August 2, 2003 Report Posted August 2, 2003 Wu-Tang Clan - Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
