The Dames 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2003 I never said it was groundbreaking, but if it completely and utterly bombed, then I'm sure some of my credibility would have gone out of the window. Who would give a shit about what I had to say if it came out badly? I'd end up like Tommy Fierro. Dames
Guest Sakura Report post Posted July 17, 2003 But this is nothing new. People have been talking about this for weeks now, trying to make sense of it or arguing about various explinations. You write reviews for rasslin' shows, whatever credibility you have is not going to be lost by this.

Everything I do comes out badly, and I still have poor unfortunate souls who read every week. Cred? No. Readership? Yes.
Guest JaKyL25 Report post Posted July 17, 2003 Dames's explanation > Eric S.'s explanation. Yours was obviously well-thought out with an attempt to fix any plot holes. Eric's looked like it was slapped together off of the top of his head kinda. It was basically a rough draft compared to your final copy. I would have sent in some suggestions to fix his if I thought that he would at all give a rat's ass. I love the guy's work, but I'm still kinda pissed at him for when he gave away a big Harry Potter spoiler just to spite fans for liking it. BTW, I haven't been to 1bob in a long long time--does Fierro still have a column?
Guest Nater Report post Posted July 17, 2003 I dont think any amount of scripting, storyline developing or plot design can fix the wreck that Kane is. Much like Austin said, the fans just wanna see him throw people around. I dont care about some big guy's emotional baggage, only that he can get pissed off on a weekly basis and go do some jumping lariats and chokeslams ... but what are wrestlers without motivation. To bring in Kane, they had to make it interesting no doubt. Undertaker was the big thing, so when they got Kane who needs a revamp of character.. they figure they could throw him in against his physical similar. They could possibly be brothers! Okay, so they are brothers. But Mr Kane shows up, a good chunk might remember his previous appearances.. so toss a mask on him. Why does he wear a mask?? I dont get it!! I'm sure at the time, throwing a mask on him by saying he was burned was a fantastic idea. Nobody wanted to unmask him, nobody COULD unmask him! Well, time kills everything. Unfortunately the WWE decided to have poor timing and/or execution of unmasking Kane. It was due, people are curious by nature. So the proper way would have to not mention any sort of scaring, mutilation or have-not for 6 months prior. When unmasking became an issue with X-Pacc and Evolution, the nature of the disturbance should have been played off as disrespect or just sadistic behavior. Nope. WWE are shitheads once again. Nice save attempt Dames, but its useless to think of adjusts for lack of creative foresight. (btw.. they DO write up their scripts on cocktail napkins one hour before the show)
Guest evilhomer Report post Posted July 17, 2003 There are still logic gaps in it, such as how Kane was able to shoot fire before, but come on...you're asking TOO MUCH! He could toss fire because he carried things that ... you know... shot fire. I mean, its not like Jerry Lawler had to use some sort of mystical power to do it for years. Yeah, just keep it simple. It plays right into the entire pshycological warfare that was being played on his mind. In his attempts to further reinforce the fact that he's a freak, Paul Bearer set up the pyro to go off at Kane's apparent will, and gave him a "magic wand" to focus his mystical powers and allow him to propel them. Of course this begs the question of why his powers still worked after Bearer was gone. For that one, I see this as a great opportunity to bring in a new heel who was wronged by Kane somewhere along the way. He's has been behind the scenes this entire time working with Paul to fuck with his head... ok, I'll go hide in the corner now. Regarding the Austin looking away bit, keep that simple as well. Remaining in the storyline that Austin was trying to reawaken the monster, he was well aware of the state of Kane's mind. So in an effort to enrage him even further and more ready to snap on anyone looking at him, Austin reinforced the perception in Kane's mind that he was ugly and hideous. The logic gap here of course is how did Austin know all this about Kane's history, but nothing's perfect. Awesome, well written article. My only beef with it was the involvement of Katie Vick. I like the way you wrote it in and it makes perfect sense, but I just see it as something that should be buried and only mentioned again out of the WWE as a punchline. Number one because of how god awful and embarrasing the entire angle was. Number two because I didn't see it as being Kane in that angle, I saw it as being Glen Jacobs in a total non-kayfabe mode. It was Glen Jacobs who was trying to break into the business and was told in a way meant to show that there was a man before Kane. This involvement totally kills the continuity of the storyline IMHO, but like I said, without this opinion, I like how you wrote it in.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2003 I would have left it out, but there would have been too many people asking "what about the whole Katie Vick thing?". Honestly...WHY couldn't Kane say during his infamout "IT WAS ACCIDENT" promo that he snuck out of his house to see her? They made it sound like Kane was a PARTAY ANIMAL and was out kegging every Friday and Saturday. Dames
DrVenkman PhD 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2003 Does anyone remember when I wrote a Kane Continuity paragraph explaning how everything tied in properly to his character being turned into a drunk driver party animal over on 411? Does anyone remember when I wrote?
Guest evilhomer Report post Posted July 17, 2003 Ok, but it was just last year that he finally got the mouthpiece taken off of his mask. How much kegging could he have done trying to suck it through the thin straw that the mouthhole his old mask had?

Guest Plushy Al Logan Report post Posted July 17, 2003 The entire "Kane" gimmick was WrestleCrap material from the start. It reminded me of the lame Dungeon of Doom monster gimmicks. That, and B horror movies. I doubt the gimmick can be salvaged. Why am I the only person that likes the Dungeon of Doom?! Now back to the topic: The breaking kayfabe would kill everything, it would even kill Katie Vick again. If there is anyway someone could get Dames' idea to the WWE writers, that would be the greatest thing that has happened in a while.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted July 18, 2003 Instead of writing an article and putting it on the main site, you should have just started a thread in the fantasy booking folder.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2003 I've gotten more feedback on this article than anything else I've ever written. For the record, it was never meant to be a fantasy booking column. It ended up being one midway. I just wanted to add in some things that were going to flesh out the storyline a little better. Dames
