The Dames 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2003 Ok, I got laid off...same shit. Bottom line: me no worky. You know...JUST when things were going SO well in my life, fate had to turn around and bitch slap me in the face. I'm a supervisor at the World Headquarters of the Anti-Defamation League, across the street from the UN and I started about 6 months ago after a LONG job search. I was originally hired as a Data Entry guy, but they started a new project based on a php message board system...and they saw my creditials from this place and gave me the job as head of the team. Yesterday, they let go the most productive guy on my team, but he's a temp, so I figured that was it. I was sad to see him go. Then this morning, I get an e-mail telling me to meet with Human Resources...and I FUCKING KNEW IT! Turns out that this lovely non-profit organization is having some financial problems, so they're letting me go as of August 15th. Apparently, I'll still have some benefits after I'm cut and I'll get some vacation pay as well, but I have to start looking for another job again. I HATE THIS. Yes, that means I'll have to go on unemployment again. It seems like I can't keep a god damned job past July for some fucking reason. This ALWAYS happens around my birthday. Don't worry, TSM is not shutting down, nor will I have any problems paying for it. I paid for it the whole time I was unemployed before and it looks like we're "government funded" again. Unfortunately, this probably means that I won't be able to go to Wrestlemania 20. That's all I fucking wanted... Dames
Guest The Superstar Report post Posted July 17, 2003 Sorry to hear that, Dames. Hope you can find another job soon enough.

Selling my ass doesn't go for much in the city. Believe me, I've tried. Dames

Guest DrTom Report post Posted July 17, 2003 Dames, your duties at the ADL should give you valuable experience in searching for another job. I think this search will be both easier and shorter than your last one. And if it's not, you could always kill people for money.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2003 That sucks man, but it seems like you left a good position with a good reference, so you shouldn't have any problem getting new work. Or you could become a wrestler!
Guest kingkamala Report post Posted July 17, 2003 Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Nah Hey hey hey.................... seriously it sucks that you got fired, but as others have said your job search will be a lot shorter than your last one due to the good position you had at your old job. Guest Ripper Report post Posted July 17, 2003 I know what you can do for money. We can get Dr. Tom AIDS and start a charity organization to steal money from! LETS GO!!! *runs off while everyone stares blankly at me* ... ... ... *comes back* No?....we can't give Tom AIDS?... Seriously though, you DO realize that you can't draw unemployment from a non-profit organization since they don't pay to UE insurance...right...? I found this out back when we both got fired around the same time last year.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 17, 2003 Well dames, looks like you're gonna be slingin' crack. You can pick it up down in Brighton Beach, and sling it over by A, B, and C street..all that shit. Junkies galore. Hook it up, spud.

Guest Mattdotcom Report post Posted July 17, 2003 That sucks the biggest one I've heard in a long time, Damester. Isn't your birthday in a few weeks, too? Damn, boo. Oh, well. Things'll pick up, I hope. And hey, if DrTom is a DOCTOR, then he should have no problem getting AIDS and then curing it, right?

Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted July 17, 2003 I feel you bro -- I'm so not looking forward to my upcoming job search. What I hate the most is not getting rejected for the job, but rather the jobs that call you in for the interview. After you get the call for the interview you 1) Figure out where it is. 2) Do research on the company. 3) Get your portfolio materials ready. 4) Dress up. 5) Worry about getting there on time. 6) Fill out a stupid application. 7) Take a stupid test(s). 8) Answer a bunch of stupid questions asked by someone whose job you could do better at than him/her. 9) Leave, and waste even more gas. I'd rather just get the "Your-resume-is-impressive-but-you-suck" letter. At least you can stay home and play video games. "Unfortunately, this probably means that I won't be able to go to Wrestlemania 20. That's all I fucking wanted" Perhaps a Dames collection plate is in order? You seem like a nice guy, and you do run things. I'd chip in a few bucks...
Guest Ripper Report post Posted July 17, 2003 I'm all for chipping in... But... Giving Tom AIDS isn't looking like too bad of a idea now..huh? And yeah Dames, I've never been in the building where you worked but I am willing to wager that there was a big-ass poster in your breakroom explaining how non-profit organizations screw you on the unemployment thing. I worked at my place for 2 years and never gave it any thought.

Guest Ripper Report post Posted July 17, 2003 I've never been to the break room.... Dames Well, you see what that being a good worker gets you? If you spent more time getting coffee and talking about what Tammy was wearing today, you would have been better prepared. You'll be alright though, and I am pretty sure that enough guys around here would be willing to help you get to Wrestlemania, even if it means giving people un-curable diseases.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2003 I highly doubt that you guys would raise enough money to get me into the Garden, seeing as how those prices are going to be mega inflated this year. Besides, I wouldn't want you to. I'd feel really bad about it. I don't even think there is a break room here. I always went out for lunch. Dames
Guest Ripper Report post Posted July 17, 2003 Well, they have to put it somewhere that is openly viewable to all employees so it is somewhere. I would look into it seeing as the laws may be different there.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2003 I'd be willing to chip in for the Dames WMXX fund. Do you take British pounds?
The Dames 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2003 Um...if I can convert it, sure Ripper, I just found out that I CAN collect unemployment from the company. Thank God. I won't be nearly as fucked as I thought I was. Still fucked, just not as hard. Dames
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 17, 2003 I am in the same boat as Dames, along with Ced Ordonez. NoCalMike, who worked under me, was let go 2 weeks ago. Ced and I know our time is up soon, but they haven't let us know yet. We are anticipating sometime between next week and the end of July. It sucks for me because I get married Aug 17th. Now at the wedding when relatives ask what do I do, I say "job searching" cause I got laid off a few weeks before my blessed date. Dammit.
The Dames 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2003 It seems like this ALWAYS happens to me around my birthday, which is next Friday. DA, just curious...what is it like having a poster work for you? You ever catch him posting on the board when he should be working? Dames
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 17, 2003 NoCalMike was pretty bad about it when we were slow. Sometimes I had to give him "a talk" about it. I used to have banned posters Bubble Boy and Sola Gratia/Dopey working under me as well. Sola was bad when he got a PC and I had to give him a talk as well. Bubble Boy wasn't as bad. Ced Ordonez, when he used to work for me, was good about it. He only posted when there was absolutely nothing to do. I have the utmost respect for Ced. NoCal and Sola were good workers too, it's just that if there was a hot topic, they sometimes needed to be warned by me and such. To add, Sola, NoCal, and Ced are all coming to my wedding. Oh yeah, smark wedding. I still can't convince my fiancee to let me have a wrestling ring on top of our wedding cake.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted July 17, 2003 Yah, I just went to some dinner theater and of course since it was my birthday I had to wear a stupid crown which is a damn target for harrassment. Anyways, the speaker guy calls on ME of course, and you are supposed to give your full name and what you do. So there I am in front of 50 or so people, trying to think of something witty to say, and I come off looking like an ass. Hahaha, I said, "narrowing down the job offers being thrown my way left & right" It got a good laugh from the crowd, but I am sure on the inside, they were all thinking, "What a fucking loser that one is" Oh and regarding the job search thing. The process ABSOLUTELY sucks. I mean just the act of walking into places to ask for an application is so appalling. I have yet to resort to that measure this time out so far. I am enrolled in unemployment but am not supposed to send my form out until the 20th, so I guess a check will come my way NEXT week. Add to that, it is over a hundred F'N Degrees here DAILY...... I did some typing/data entry tests at the temp agency I am enrolled with, so hopefully that lands me something besides ANOTHER wretched warehouse job. Oh well, good luck to everyone looking for a job.
