Guest Ripper Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Has anybody heard what her AOL name is? Either this is going to turn to a "Lets IM her and say she is a liar" or "OMG, she has something about sex in her screen name...LIAR!!!" Either way, it wouldn't be allowed to be posted here. Guest Ripper Report post Posted July 24, 2003 because there has been precedent with a woman that was in a sexual liasion with a famous athlete and tried to extort him for money (the Michael Jordan case is the most recent example), the DA is going to have one hell of a time proving that Kobe raped her. Whether or not Kobe did it of his own volition or on advice of his attorney, it was a brilliant move for him to come out publically just hours after the DA's announcement and fully admit to having sex with her, but fully denying the rape charge. GC, you could not be more wrong, whether or not the man as a basketball icon, if the evidence finds him guilty, he deserves to go to jail. I posted in another thread about how we put celebrities on pedestals which are ever-shrinking because we attach our own morality to them, and when they fall off (and sooner or later, they will), they are both blindly supported and vilified in the court of public opinion, which will find him guilty or innocent before one fact is presented in a court of law. The backlash against him is only starting, from whatever his wife said to him in private, to his family, his team, and the league in general. He should have been much more careful. If he was going to cheat on his wife, thats his prerogative. But he should have been much more circumspect about the possible dangers he was going to be putting himself in by straying from his wife. I am simply going to wait until the case begins and the facts come out, even though its down to a he said, she said situation, and kobe stands more of a good chance to win the case. All i can say is that there had better be so damn good evidence against him, because he holds the high ground right now because of his image. That image is going to be tarnished for sure, but he will survive it. If there is a civil suit, then we will know what the motive was all along. But Rendclaw, I can't think of a SINGLE person using rape to extort the player. There are plenty of cases of the "You had sex with me and this is your baby...pay me!!" and the players give up money so their wife won't find out (Which was the Jordan case). But where is the precedent of a person charging a athlete with rape for financial gain. There are much easier routes. There's always blackmail or threatning to say rape. But she in no way approached him about it, and went to the police. Then through medical evidence they had enough evidence to file a case. Now don't get me wrong. I am not in the "THROW HIM IN JAIL HE'S GUILTY" crowd, because I will wait until the trial. But to this point, this has been a very extraordinary event for the athelete to be charged. Guest Redhawk Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Someone said a few pages back that Kobe was clean-shaven before this all happened. That's not true. He's still got the goatee in his mug shot, which was taken when he got arrested which was like a week after the alleged rape. And Kobe's been going with the goatee/Afro ever since 2000-2001, if I'm not mistaken. Sometimes he's clean-shaven but he has hair on his head, sometimes vice versa, but he hasn't looked like he does now since his rookie year. This was obviously something his lawyer told hinm to do in order to look more innocent. As far as the "vacation" thing, think about it: If your daughter had just told you she was raped and you had already planned a family vacation, wouldn't you take her? What kind of parent would LEAVE HER AT HOME BY HERSELF in that situation? Again, the only people who know exactly what happened are Kobe and his accuser, and maybe Kobe's bodyguard or something. Until we hear each one tell their story, there is no justification for saying she's a whore or he's a rapist.
Guest Deebo Report post Posted July 25, 2003 1. Kobe was clean shaven WAY before this. He shaved his hair and goatee after the NBA season. I live in LA and they had pictures of it, it grew back by the time this happened. 2. About the vacation. If my daughter was raped I'd probably, oh you know.. CANCEL THE VACATION? The vacation isn't going anywhere, it can wait. Whatever place they were going to visit is always going to be there.

Whatever place they were going to visit is always going to be there. maybe she hadn't told them yet? this isn't like the movies, where a girl screams "rape" half an hour after it happens. feelings of shame and guilt are common, and many girls don't even report it at all. Guest ErekT2k Report post Posted July 25, 2003 She told her parents already before they left for vacation. And what kind of parents would they be to take her on vacation after the rape? Cancelling the vacation would be the best thing to do but they didn't. And she reported the rape the day after to the police after getting advice from a bellboy and her parents. Guest Brush with Greatness Report post Posted July 25, 2003 I think there is one thing here that is going unnoticed. Maybe people are too stupid to figure it out, maybe they know too little about the criminal justice system, or maybe they are just being naive but here it is. Kobe Bryant has been charged with rape. Not accused of rape. Charged with rape. There is a big difference there people. If you are under the assumption that this case will boil down to "he said she said" then you are sadly mistaken. The Eagle County DA would not be stupid enough to charge someone of Kobe's stature with rape unless they feel that they have sufficient evidence to prosecute. The Eagle County DA not only spoke with the Denver City District Attorney but also with the Colorado Attorney General before deciding to follow through with pressing charges (that's a fact, not a rumour). On top of this, the type of rape he is charged with falls under some sort of physical aggression category. Now, from my understanding, they did not have to choose to put it into this category but did so regardless. Now, if you think there are no facts that we, the public, are unaware of, think again. Cancelling the vacation would be the best thing to do but they didn't. And she reported the rape the day after to the police after getting advice from a bellboy and her parents. But as I said before, the day after the news hit, there were shots of her house on the news. It took the media all of a few hours to know her name, where she lived and such. It is very reasonable that if you just accused with rape you would want to get the hell out of dodge for a few days to get the minds together and get some family time. Now if we hear about the family out at the amusment park and taking pictures with Mickey and Donald while on this "vacation" okay. But the "vacation" probably turned into some family time with their daughter and that is more than normal.

Guest ErekT2k Report post Posted July 26, 2003 http://www.msnbc.com/news/943797.asp Accuser has attempted suicide before, confirms a police officer. Also found on nbc, the party she was at is still kind of blurred. She was bragging about the incident and describing Kobe's anatomy when asked about it, but at the time when the charges were filed, the host of the party said the physical evidence is shocking. Talk about mood swings.
