Guest Memphis Report post Posted July 24, 2003 Unfortunately I've never witnessed the enigma that is Flair vs Steamboat so I vote Austin/Hitman via default. However, that match is my favourite of all time, and no matter how good Flair/Steamboat is/was, I can't see it dethroning the WM13 classic in my book. Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted July 24, 2003 The greatest match in wrestling history is... Bret Hart vs. Austin (WM 13) It just BARELY edges out the also extremely great Flair/Steamboat classic because of its historical significance. There are so many underlying themes to this match, like the old school wrestler vs. new blood, the boyscout good guy vs. the anti-hero, and of course, the famous double-turn. People argue that it's not technical, but it wasn't billed as a match of technique. It lived up to its billing and no WWE match to this day and probably not for a LONG time can match it. Flair vs. Steamboat is also a great, classic encounter with two of the greatest going at it, but Bret/Austin is just that much better.
Guest BAR Report post Posted July 24, 2003 (edited) Personally, I think Survivior Series '96 is WAY better. The WWF's second best match in fact. Sure, it didn't have as much historical importance but it was a much better wrestling match. And, calling it the best match in wrestling history? 12/6/96? 6/3/94? 4/2/89? 3/20/94? 4/21/83? No beef though, it's all opinions. EDIT: 14-14, now, damn close. Edited July 24, 2003 by BAR

Guest godthedog Report post Posted July 25, 2003 Bret/Austin I can't get over how much the finish ruled. Too bad finished like that don't get booked anymore. it wasn't that original an idea. people pass out to holds without submitting all the time. this one was just better because austin was bleeding, he was in it for so long (almost breaking the hold at one point), and nobody had gotten out of the sharpshooter in almost 5 years. Guest Dmann2000 Report post Posted July 29, 2003 Eh, I'm of the school that 4-2-89 is better then 5-7-89.
Adam 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2003 Well either way, the result was going to be a great match. I haven't actually seen any of the Flair-Steamboat series of matches, I don't have access to them.
Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted July 29, 2003 The Chi-Town Rumble match is available on KaZaa if you have it.
EL DANDY~! 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2003 Somebody needs to get out their old tapes and put Clash VI on KaZaa as well...oh, and I might see why Chi-Town rumble gets the nod over this. It's just an outstanding match. I liked the drama of the second one. The finish of Chi-Town just didn't do it for me...

Guest Ray Report post Posted August 25, 2003 Meh.....I don't feel either match is worthy of that title. Misawa vs Tsuruta 6/8/90 was better than both. Everyone should see it...it's great. If we only count US matches then Flair/Steamboat is worthy.
