PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2005 Anyone watch the women's team crash out? I've no objection to putting it on TV, but I think it'll take a few years to get up to a good standard, like anything fresh.
Murmuring Beast 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2005 I've only seen about half an hour of it combined and I didn't think it was too bad. The goalkeepers are consistently awful in women's football though. Last night I watched Real Betis against Ossasuna in a bar. I think Betis won 2-1 after AET to win the cup. It was tremendous entertainment anyway. Late tackles, mini riots, and about 10 minutes added onto the Extra Time because of one of the extended brawls. The funniest moment was a Betis player CRYING after a late tackle which got the opponent sent-off. I mean, it was a bad foul, but come on! If the standard of on-field behaviour happened in Scotland, there'd be mass media outrage (ie. after one of the Rangers-Celtic matches last season) but I don't know how the Spanish press will take it. Great entertainment though.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2005 Spanish football is like that with the over-reaction to tackles regularly enough for it not to cause much of a storm. Part of what makes Spanish football such fun to watch. It's much more open than Premiership football, usually, as well. Anyone see in one of the papers yesterday, where Glazer wants the Buccs to play one NFL game a season at Old Trafford to try and build some interest in the game over here? That would be funny as hell. Especially when hardly anyone turns up.

PLAGIARISM! 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2005 Scum that they are, it is a bit upsetting that any club with such a big part in the history of the English game completely goes to shit. Also, can we buy some players that aren't in league one please??? quite amusing that blades are throwing money at Helguson...supposedly he and Webber 'Don't work well together'. Hehe. In other news, Ashley Waaard's house is up for sale at £4.5m!!! He'll be a kept man for a while yet...
TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2005 If somebody buys it.. Good ol' Wardy, scored the last goal at the Baseball Ground, and scored the first goal at Pride Park. That's a stat.

TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2005 Man U not getting Ronaldinho was careless. However, if they proceed to sell Veron and not bring in another striker and/or creative player then careless becomes overconfident and retarded. Don't they release that if Van Nistelrooy gets injured they are utterly, utterly screwed? I mean, obviously it would be tremendously funny, but still. They seem to have forgotten that Giggs was terrible for three quarters of last season, Keane was either injured or shite and Forlan is, well, crap. the entire burden of Man U's attacking play could end up falling on Paul Scholes, and good as he is, he can't win a championship on his own. What with Arsenal's squad looking slightly shite also, this could finally be a season with some real change at the top. I'm going for Chelsea to win it as long as they bring in a good striker, as to me Chelsea will start the season with probably the strongest squad. Man U and Arsenal may have better first XIs, but as we all know over the course of a whole season that doesn't mean shit if you end up being forced to play Pascal Cygan or Phil Neville in defence. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just re-reading parts of this thread, good prediction, look what happened last season
TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2005 Plus, i almost pulled a Wolves fan once. No, i support Derby, same as Caboose. My Dear, I didn't almost pull you <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You DID pull him?!... The Division One thread has taken a turn towards soap drama!... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes this thread certainly did take some interesting turns. I can't believe this thread still breathes life. TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2005 Did Frank Lampard even touch the ball last night? I rate Lampard highly, but he's not Beckham, Scholes, Gerrard class, so he wont be a regular. I'd even go as far as to put Joe Cole in the team before him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What twat said that?

TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2005 No, I wouldn't say so. Billy Davies and Gary Johnson were the two favourites, i'd still bank on the latter joining. Bolton's assistant manager seems to have thrown his hat into it though.
TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted June 17, 2005 Here's how I think the Premiership will finish next year. 1. Arsenal(Best attack in England will make up for the lack of defensive cover) 2. Chelsea(They need a World Class Striker to ever win the league) 3. Manchester United(I think they'll be fighting Liverpool for 3rd place for the next few years) 4. Liverpool(Benitez signs Ayala and Wright-Phillips but Owen leaves in summer of 2005) 5. Newcastle(they win the Worthington Cup but the crap defense lets them down in league) 6. Birmingham(about 9 teams have a chance to finish 6th) 7. Charlton 8. Tottenham 9. Aston Villa 10. Midddlesbrough 11. Portsmouth 12. Bolton 13. Southampton 14. Blackburn 15. Norwich 16. Manchester City 17. Fulham(They rely too much on Boa Morte and Malbranque and if they don't play well then Fulham struggle) 18. Everton(Teams finishing 17th usually go down the next season) 19. West Brom(not good enough) 20. Crystal Palace(Only Routledge and Johnson are premiership quality, the rest are either past their best or are players who try hard but lack quality) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Any predictions for next years table..? Murmuring Beast 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2005 Be thankful Billy Davies didn't sign his highly untalented brother. One of the few players I've ever heard being booed by his own fans before he came on as a sub when both Davies' were at Motherwell.
Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2005 I'll have a random guess at the table...nothing too controversial. Have a feeling Spurs will do well next year, based on nothing at all. 1 Chelsea 2 Arsenal 3 Man Utd 4 Liverpool 5 Spurs 6 Newcastle 7 Man City 8 Everton 9 Middlesborough 10 Bolton 11 Villa 12 Birmingham 13 Charlton 14 Fulham 15 Blackburn 16 Portsmouth 17 West Ham 18 Sunderland 19 WBA 20 Wigan
caboose 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2005 1 Chelsea (More dominance, especially with a striker) 2 Man Utd (If Rio, Ruud and Ronaldo stay, Rooney will do the rest on his own, Van Der Saar is a good buy) 3 Arsenal (I can see Arsenal fading away over the next few years) 4 Liverpool (Closer to the top three than Everton were this year) 5 Newcastle (Only if Souness gets Emre, Benni McCarthy and two defenders) 6 Man City (Pearce is going to be a great manager, he's just completely original) 7 Aston Villa (O'Leary is putting together a very good squad) 8 Spurs (Losing Arnesen would hurt them BAD) 9 Bolton (The older players' legs are gonna really struggle around Easter) 10 Everton (Moyes is going to continue his good/bad season trend) 11 Middlesborough (Mclaren will have one eye on the World Cup for England) 12 Charlton (Same again, safe but not really challenging) 13 Fulham (Me thinks Al Fayeed is getting bored) 14 Sunderland (McCarthy will work his magic and be safe by April) 15 Birmingham City (Unattractive for big players and Bruce may leave for pastures new) 16 Blackburn (Hughes is overrated as a manger) 17 West Ham (Back for good. Just) 18 Portsmouth (Will need Robert to have a Ginola style change in attitude) 19 WBA (Last season was a fluke, Palace and Southampton were both better sides) 20 Wigan (A season like Norwich had this year)
deancoles 0 Report post Posted June 18, 2005 What's the silliest rumour you've heard so far? Saviola to West Brom based on Batistuta possibly being striking coach is a good one, I don't read the Sun so I'm sure there'll be loads they've "reported" Edit: Figo to Bolton's up there as well.
