Guest DrTom Report post Posted August 1, 2003 And I called em the Baltimorons cause they should have resigned him, or at least offered something more than $15 million/3 years. Why? This is the first really good year he's had. It's possible he recovered from the arm abuse the Orioles subjected him to earlier in his career, and turned into the pitcher they always thought he would be. It's also possible he's pitching like this because he knows he's in a contract year. Sidney doesn't have a history of being the most motivated guy in the world, and no one knows that better than the O's. I think they made a tremendous move, getting three pitchers for one, and all three have a good chance to be in the majors. Not a bad haul for trading away a 2-3 month rental. Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted August 1, 2003 Two words why the Orioles shouldn't be jumping to Ponson long term: Darren Dreifort. How many years was it that Dreifort was supposed to be come this great pitcher (a la Ponson)? Then what happened when he finally had the good year, the Dodgers sign him 5 yr./55 mil killing off salary flexability.
Guest undisputedjericho Report post Posted August 1, 2003 But if Nick Johnson is going to start over him, then its okay, for now. Nick Johnson is a 1B/DH, not a third baseman.
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2003 I'll comment more on these trades when I post my weekly baseball report later tonight. I really like the Ponson trade for both clubs. And I can't for the life of me see why the Dodgers had Bubba Crosby in AAA, especially when they were so desperate for offense. The PCL is noted for it's inflated stats. It's hard to judge how good a hitter really is in that league. Last year, Crosby hit .260 in Las Vegas. Bubba, for approaching 27, might be good but Las Vegas, Albuquerque, Colorado Springs, Salt Lake City and other places are just launching pads Ask Isotopes star Rob Stratton, who has 30 HRs and 132 strikeouts
Guest T_Hunt Report post Posted August 1, 2003 Wow i can not believe the Twins did nothing! I'm really starting to think the White Soxs might finally be the team that they were supposed to be for the last 5 years. THey made moves and after that raping the Soxs threw down on the Royals the last couple days and with the Twins struggling agaisnt the Indians and Orioles, god damn i hate life. I really hope the Twins claim Gonzalez before the royals even get a chance.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted August 1, 2003 Start by dumping Mays and Rogers. The Twins wouldn't be any worse, if they dumped these two stiffs.

Guest geniusMoment Report post Posted August 2, 2003 Its funny everyone in NY is pissed because they traded away Claussen for just Aaron Boone because they felt he was their future number 1. Everyone in cincy is pissed because the reds traded boone. I guess you always like your own players more.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted August 2, 2003 I feel bad for Boone being in NY. NY doesn't know what a class act he is and treated him like shit from what I heard.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted August 2, 2003 If Boone produces the fans will cheer for him. If he doesn't than he deserves to get booed.
Guest oldschoolwrestling Report post Posted August 6, 2003 From cbs sportsline: B R E A K I N G N E W S Yankees ship Benitez to Mariners The Yankees get setup man Jeff Nelson back from the Mariners for Armando Benitez, the Associated Press is reporting.
Bored 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Definently a better deal for the Yankees as Nelson is better as a middle reliever as his role in Seattle was jumbled around because of Sasaki being injured. Also the Mariners must not think Sasaki will ever be full strength this season to get Benitez. What's interesting most about this though is Nelson was very vocal about the Mariners front office making no big moves at the deadline and now he gets traded. Wonder how that sits with his now former teammates.
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted August 6, 2003 More news.. Kevin Appier signed by Royals
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted August 6, 2003 Won't matter. Appier's all but washed up. It gives the Royals another starter know that Lima is hurt.
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted August 7, 2003 I wonder if Nelson thinks the Mariners have what they need to win the West now.
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2003 Won't matter. Appier's all but washed up. It gives the Royals another starter know that Lima is hurt. Kevin is starting on Friday in Tampa. Appier is 8-0 lifetime against the D-Rays in 8 starts. Also, if you check Appier's split stats on Yahoo, August is his best month. Hopefully he can keep that going. I wouldn't say Appier is washed up, if he's able to be a better pitcher than Kyle Snyder is right now, then that'd be fine. Plus, Appier is getting 90,000. Compared to the insane salary he got from the Mets, this is a good deal.
Dr. Tom 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2003 Appier is 8-0 lifetime against the D-Rays in 8 starts. That's not really something to brag about, Rob.
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2003 Appier is 8-0 lifetime against the D-Rays in 8 starts. That's not really something to brag about, Rob. I did some checking, and out of alot of the big name starters in the AL (Yankees fab-four, A's fab-three, Pedro), only one starter is undefeated against the D-Rays, and that's Mulder. No matter how bad the team is, beating them 8 times in a row in 8 games is a good sign. I checked and I think the record is 24 in a row, Christy Mathewson v. the Cardinals

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2003 Randall Simon isn't any better than Choi when you get down to it. And why trade away Bobby Hill? The Cubs are throwing the pennant away at this point.

Bored 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 Big trade news that goes to show the July 31st deadline means almost nothing. Baseball Tonight is reporting that Brian Giles will be traded to the Padres tommorrow. I guess he cleared waivers since everyone knew he'd be going to a non-contender. Also they are reporting Rondell White will likely be traded to the Royals or Expos before Sunday.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted August 26, 2003 Waivers don't matter with Brian Giles, because the Padres have first shot anyway. They claim him, and then the Pirates can either pull him back, or trade him.
